“Great for sundowners; food hit-and-miss”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

I have visited the Waterfront over a dozen times in the last 3-4 months. It is a great location (at the Slipway on the Peninsular) and fabulous for sundowners (sunset views over the ocean), but somehow it just doesn't seem to be living up to its potential...

Food is hit-and-miss... I have had super meals at the Waterfront, and I have had terrible meals at the waterfront (my father was unfortunate enough to munch a very-rotten giant prawn last week which left him vomiting in the toilet).

Service is either sparkling or non-existent.

Although I have given an 'Average' review, I will be going back to the Waterfront - although I will probably stick to drinks, not food.

“Great lobster!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

It has been years since I had a real fresh lobster from the Indian ocean. This one was grilled and really super. Tender, not dry, full of flavour. The starters and side dishes were ok but the lobster really stood out!

“What a place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Dar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

Great spot, cracking food and no better place then here to quaff a Kilimanjaro. Staff very friendly but you have to appreciate that it gets really busy so use a little patience.

“Very nice settings, good food, normal prices, perfect to hang out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

We went here one evening with 4 friends, and managed to get a table with sofa's around it on the front just at the beach; normally you have to book these kind of tables well in advance, certainly on weekends. As starters we took a seafood plate and a meat plate, very good quality, and for a good price. As main course I took fresh grilled local fish, which normally comes with fried banana ... unfortunately I got fried ... french fries instead, what a pity. Fish was good without being special. Also the spagetti arrabiata was well appreciated by a friend. Our waiter was a nervous young lady, trying to do her best, but she had not been learnt how to uncork a bottle of wine. But she was really trying to do her best, what I appreciated. They also serve a good quality local sparkling water, called Safari. As the portions for both the starters and main dishes are a bit big, we did not feel like taking desserts. I guess you better do not come here during daytime, as it will be toooo hot. On average good food for not at all exagerated prices. The settings add the extra dimension for which you will for sure come back.

“Great evening views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013

Good dinner, nice atmosphere! Close proximity to the Doubletree Hotel allows you to have dinner outside of the hotel. Most of the dinner guests were tourists.
