We were pretty impressed with Econo Lodge. The location was fairly good - close to the airport, and a 5 minute taxi drive to the city centre - and they had taxi drivers for you to use. The room was clean, and the breakfast was decent. For the price that we paid for it, it was definitely good value! Nothing fancy or luxury, but we felt safe there. We wish they could have arranged an airport pickup for us though, as the taxis completely ripped us off, but we had no choice!

Myself and my friends stayed here for four weeks whilst volunteering in Dar es Salaam. The owners were so friendly and helpful, whether it be recommending restaurants or just greeting us on the way in, they even gave us gifts as we left! Rooms are fairly big with balcony and en suite bathroom with hot water (though water pressure not perfect it was far better than we expected for the price!)

Rooms were cleaned as regularly as you wished and to an excellent standard. They have a lift which is great when you have large backpacks. Breakfast is included in the price and features fruit, toast with jam and butter ad tea or coffee.

Air con and fan were great, but no mosquito nets so if you're worried about being bitten bring your own. That being said, there weren't many mosquitos around. It's in a good location in city centre and easy to get taxis outside if you need them.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay. Good location, clean, safe and friendly owners. would recommend if you're going to be in Dar and are looking for no frills reasonably priced accommodation!

Basic but clean and light rather large rooms
Very reasonable price for Dar Es Salam scenery
Good location - 10-15 minutes walk to the ferry terminal as well as to the Kariakoo market
Staff is helpful

Perfect if you intend to return to the hotel only for the nights.

Air conditioning was brilliant.
Shower was a bit crappy but the rooms were much bigger and beds were much better and cleaner.
There were no mosquito nets but the windows were all tightly shut and we didnt get bitten at night.
Terrific location and not too far to walk to the harbour for the Zanzibar ferry or to get a taxi.

Room Tip: Air conditioning

This place is clean and trustworthy. They have free luggage storage, and hot water. It is nothing fancy, but it is safe and clean. Breakfast is included, though just tea/coffee with toast and fruit.

It has a great location to walk to some nice resteraunts and super markets. It is within walking distance of the ferry to Zanzibar as well.

We arrived as guests in Feb 2013 to Dar es Salaam. This hotel was chosen by our sponsor organization, Security is good inside the hotel but as the manager and staff advise you, hang onto your handbag and wallet outside the hotel . Ask to look at your room before you sign. Rooms vary in quality and facility as we had several rooms in our stays there with balcony/no balcony, aircon/no aircon, fans but no mossie nets, cleanliness usually passable but not better than OK. Breakfast is passable but not any better than eating fried porridge. Service at breakfast is surly. If you like cheap, central, close to ferry and action spots, this is a good location. Just be aware of your personal security and ask advice about transportation and safe ares at the front desk.

Room Tip: Check out several rooms before you choose. They vary a lot. Get air/con and balcony if available as...

Cheap (for Dar), clean, hot showers, and with a decent breakfast included - pretty much exactly what I would want from a hotel in an African capital city. Also close to some really good Indian grills.
