“Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

A really nice friendly hotel, staff were very good, in reception, in the bar cafe, the concierge. Could not complain at all. The rooms were very clean and spacious and it is right on the water front so access to restaurants and nightlife within easy walking distance.

Special compliments to the Spa staff for a good massage and and lots of smiles.

Room Tip: I checked out 3 rooms, all were more than acceptable. I do not recall any street/road noise and the...

I stayed here with a tour group of 13. First sign of trouble was at check-in; they'd lost our reservations. The room was dark and dingy, though it did have a view of the beach - through dirty windows and broken curtains. No one's TVs worked and the front desk staff said they couldn't do anything about it. The restaurant is equally bad - we waited two hours for an over-priced and mediocre meal. One last annoyance - I needed change for a 200 dhm bill (about $24 US.). Restaurant said they couldn't change it and sent me to the bar. Bar couldn't change it and sent me to front desk. They couldn't (or wouldn't) change it either. Really? No one in this large hotel was able to break a fairly small bill? Guess the staff is as indifferent to tips as they are to service.

The hotel is conveniently placed, right near the beach and the medina. It looks impressive from the outside, however, the service we received at the hotel left a lot to be desired. Even though we arrived at 8PM, our room was not yet ready and we had to sit in the reception for almost an hour before it was ready. We'd been traveling all day and just wanted to get into our room but the hold up was long and at no point were we offered an explanation nor an apology.

On the first night, our air conditioning leaked. I reported this to the front desk who sent up an engineer who just wanted to go home. He explained that the leakage was caused by us having it on its highest setting and advised it was not dangerous. He then left. Not satisfied by this explanation, I returned to the front desk, advising that as the AC unit was installed next to a light, the situation was potentially deadly. They refused to swap our room or offer any help. After a 45 minute argument, during which the clerk explained that "127 people work at the hotel, only the proprietor and one other are full time, so nobody really cares", the night technician finally came on duty. I had to follow him around to make sure he actually came to my room. He switched off the nearby light, took out the unit, fixed the blockage that caused the leak, all in about ten minutes. At no point was an apology offered in any way, shape or form.

The hotel boasts that Winston Churchill stayed there in the 1950s. I'm guessing that he received far better treatment than the contempt that we received.

The hotel was good to stay, close to the beach and the boardwalk, with some restaurants in the vicinity and the kasbah and medina are a nice leisurely 10 minute stroll away. The hotel itself has good sized rooms, clean, good wifi and a enjoyable continental breakfast.

The bad bit was the check in, we arrived and got told our room wasn't ready, so wandered around for about an hour and came back to get told the same thing. After further probing, they said they hadn't received our reservation from Expedia. So we waited a further hour where information was not really forthcoming, there was no offer of refreshments or the like and there were another set of prospective hotel stayers in the lounge in the same predicament. Finally, after 2 hours plus of our arrival, they claimed Expedia just at that moment sent through our reservation at that time and the room was ready.

The other part that was frustrating was that, every time we would go for the breakfast, a chamber maid would enter the room and remove all the towels without replacing them. This was a specific annoyance as showers were not had prior, so you spend your time looking for a chamber maid to get some replacement towels.

The hotel has a club and bar with a singer, so if you have a pool side room, it can get loud.

It's an ok place to stay

As international teachers living in Morocco, we stopped off in Tangier before heading to Spain on the ferry the following day. For the most part the Rif & Spa delivered on everything we were hoping for. The hotel is located very close to both the ferry port and the train station. The hotel was beautiful as were the pool and pool garden. The rooms were spacious and very clean and the bed was so comfortable.

Unfortunately, we chose to save a little money and got a room facing the pool instead of the street. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but the Rif & Spa turns the poolside cafe area into a rather lively and loud nightclub every night and the music doesn't get turned down until 11:30. So...nice room, comfortable bed, but too much noise.

Room Tip: If you're not a night owl make sure to get a room facing the street.

Had a view of the ocean, which was nice, but the noise and the crowd at night was loud and there are many nightclubs below. The rooms were just okay and so was the bfast and dinner. Nothing special. The decor was pretty in some of the public rooms, but the staff was lacking any friendliness.

Room Tip: Street below is not advisable for a tourist without a guide. We were haggled non-stop even with our...

Very "french" service. You should fire to draw the staff's attention. The only possible language except their native one is french. No english. For about 20 min they tried to find my reservation. The location is good, the room was clean.
