“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

This hotel was a last minute booking. It's a gorgeous place. The reception staff are helpful and spoke english. Breakfast was lovely ( coffee/ tea, jam etc) served in a beautiful court yard.

Room was very clean and bed comfortable. Only a 10 minute walk to the port to catch the ferry and found some time eateries close by. Great place to stay!.

It's an nice small hotel with nice people at a reasonale price, at close range from the medina by foot...what else to expect?

We loved to be here, instead of those other big hôtels, and, in this hotel they are trying to give a nice touch in the patio for some rest and for breakfast time.

Rooms are just ok, but the place is globaly nice.

We spent three nights in this inexpensive hotel/pensione. The location is very good - on a side street less than 100 meters from the beach and only a short walk to the medina and kasbah. The staff were warm and welcoming and offered us a choice of rooms. The room we chose was the largest room in the building at the front of the house. It had a comfortable double bed, a single bed, couch and desk and a couple chairs. All was very worn but serviceable and adequate (it could have been a little bit cleaner). But it was exceptionally good value for Tangier.

Was not expecting much, and truly there isn't much, but the value, location, and service was fantastic. Nabil was so incredibly helpful and attentive. The rooms are spare, but if you are just looking for a clean and cheap place to lay your head, this is it. Down the block is the Bristol Pub where they serve the most amazing swordfish with the most spot one waiters I have seen in 6 years of living in Morocco. Dar Pension is a place you do a one nighter in, maybe 2, but there is such a great ambiance and connection that you could almost move in and stay.

We stayed for 4 nights and used two rooms, one had a TV with Nilesat channels providing English language on many with Arabic subtitles, not that we went on holiday to watch TV just nice to catch up on some news, and relax while the children were settling, the staff were extremely obliging, and friendly, breakfast which we´d paid for was fresh made croissants and Jams, with coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice, - we were told this would only be available until 10.30am, as it was only a guest house with basic kitchen facilty - however despite this, the staff provided on a few occaisons the breakfast much later, - the staff we encountered, were all super friendly, Ahmed (employee) - extremely helpful and knowledgable, friendly and kept a keen eye on the reception area to ensure guest privacy, Nabil (the owners son) resourceful, and keen to make many gradual improvements, was able to advise us on local price expectations, tips, etc, the directions / info needed to get to attractions such as the amusement park etc, even on leaving, to order us the grand taxi to get back to the port (we used Tanger Med from Algerciras instead of Tarrifa to Tangier - it worked out slightly cheaper - and had the advantage of no hussle and bussle of the touts and beggars in the main port - we have been to Tangier before). The location itself - is only a few minutes walk to the medina and port as well as the main road along the front with restaraunts, cafes and bars. The rooms basic, without wardrobes, but with toilet / shower + hot water, and very clean, no noise from street or surrounds I wouldnt hesitate to recommend, and will definately return. The hotel does not have a pool. The courtyard area at the back is really relaxing to sit and pass time, relax, have a coffee plan the day ahead.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are for sure going to be nice and quite, towels provided, but no soap...

Hamid Araissi, a journalist who has worked all over the region, has recently taken over this hotel that has been in his family for several generations. Full of solid and balanced ideas for its restoration, he is bringing an inspired and enthusiastic touch to this historical and well placed hotel. It's a great place to feel the authenticity of a part of the world that is undergoing rapid changes. Delightful breakfast in the terrace.
