“A mixed bag”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2010

Firstly, the area. Out front is a major, chaotic road intermingled with a building site for the new Metro. The other 3 sides look out onto areas that are rundown to say the least. This being Morocco, it felt safe enough as long as you keep your wits about you. Unfortunately, if you are female, it's best no to go out without a male companion as you will get hassle. Very handy for the Medina. Decent restaurants nearby - they do take a bit of finding though. Try La Corrida - out of the hotel, turn R, keep going for a km, it's on the R. Doesn't look much from the outside, but great food (no alcohol).

My room was ok, but a little bit worn and tired. The towel rail was falling off the wall, but the plumbing worked ok. Bed was comfortable. The room safe was already closed - when I asked about it, the reception staff said it was a problem throughout the hotel. This turned out to be [--], as colleagues that checked in later than me were given rooms with safes that worked. I suspect that they have lost the overide key, and as people check out leaving the safes shut, they become unusable. Not good - if they had a problem, they should at least have been honest about it.

Breakfast was ok, but the service is poor. Very hard to get a cup of coffee, almost impossible to get a second one. You have a 50% chance of a chipped cup.

By contrast, the service in the bars and the restaurant 'next door' (but actually part of the hotel) was exemplary. The food was good, if typically 3 times the price of the same meal outside the hotel. You can get anything from the restaurant delivered to the bar if you ask - don't rely on the bar menu.

The internet access was ok, but allow plenty of time if you want the archaic printer in the business centre to churn out any documents!

I didn't pay for the room so can't comment on value for money.

I should start by saying the location is quite 5-star, the lobby, though small, is quite striking mainly because of the view it affords of the rather impressively designed bar on the right. The room we stayed in was also good, tastefully decorated. Now to the letdown. First, the bathroom. By this time, Rabat was already the 3rd city on our trip, so we had already a pretty good idea of what to expect of toilets and bathrooms in the country however the low standards of bathrooms i didn't expect to encounter in this supposedly 5-star hotel -- check out my photo. The bathroom could very well use a good scrubbing, and a refitting properly done. Worse, we got bath towels which had seen better days -- torn and with holes i could fit my hand into (see photo). The variety and the quality of the buffet was ok, but the price of the beverages was outrageous (9 euros for a small bottle of of mineral water and an espresso!), and the service unbelievably abysmal.

This hotel has a nice lobby but this is the only 5 star thing about this hotel.
Rooms are large but with dirty carpets, breakfast is average, and room service poor.
Service is certainly not 5 stars, In room internet connection was not working.

Nice and spacious rooms with a good bathroom. The hotel is well located with a bar (and a small pool) in the top with a great view. The staff are not helpfull and the hotel is not realy cleaned! The parking is too small.
In the day i've arrived (19,00h) i've changed for another room twice (first because it is not prepared -cleaned -, and in the second case it was occupied by old lady, that screamed when i've put the card in the door!!)
Good breakfast and a really nice reception area with a conjugation of modernity with a arabic style.

This is the WORST hotel in Rabat, they charged us around 130 EURO per night to disover that this OUTRAGEOUS price does not include breakfast and whats more ! I have to pay for using the internet, 40 Dirham per hour ! that is about 4 euro per hour ! it is disgraceful.

I am absoultely disgusted by the whole experience, I will never ever think again of staying at this hotel.

You can get far much better deals with half this money somewhere else....BE AWARE.

I have been in Morocco 10 times--so I know how to evaluate against local standards. Here, the staff is is indifferent. Wake up calls arrived late or not at all. Food is impoverished and served on tables that were dirty. My colleague had a medal presented to him by the King of Morocco stolen from his luggage. Beware at check out--you will find mini-bar and restaurant charges that are not yours. Several guests checking out at the same time had similar experiences. Check out takes and average of 20 minutes. Internet in the room will not work. I purchased 24 hour service but found the service was unavailable at certain times. I would strongly recommend the Vila Mandarine or new Soffitel.

This hotel simply don't do vegetarian food. We arrived at the hotel in time to check in and go down to dinner. There was a buffet of 5 hot dishes and around 12 salad dishes to choose from, only one of these did not have meat in it. The hotel were expecting our party and had been told there were vegetarians (who, incidentally, will eat fish) but they had prepared nothing and when we complained they offered us an omelette. Eventually they did bring us a meal, 4 roast potatoes, some carrots and french beans. Nothing else. The drinks were not included in the price and were very expensive so buy water in the town. Also the security is lax. Our room window did not lock and the bars on the outside of the window had been bent and broken, We were on the ground level and there had clearly been a break in at some point. There was a safe in the room so we were okay so long as we used the safe.
