“A good value for money hotel in central Rabat”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

I am frankly surprised that there have been so many negative reviews of the Hotel Bouregreg, where I spent two nights in February 2013. I thought that it offered very good value for money in a city where medium-priced hotels are rather thin on the ground. Booking online, I paid 76 Euros, which included breakfast and all taxes.

The location of the hotel is excellent, being right opposite one of the many entrances to Rabat's walled medina (old city). It is also next to a Metro stop, which is a very useful way of getting round. If you arrive at Rabat Ville railway station, you can reach the hotel by Metro or walk (the distance is only a kilometre or so).

I was happy with my room, which had a very comfortable double bed, an a/c (which doubled as a heater), a rather old-fashioned TV (BBC World available) and a good-sized bathroom, with a bath (but no plug!) and hot water at all times. There was also free wi-fi Internet access, with excellent connectivity. My room was light and airy and overlooked a large outdoor courtyard. There was plenty of hanging space and the room was certainly clean, as was the bed linen. I did, however, find the lighting rather harsh. One could also hear distant noise from the hotel nightclub late at night, although it was not too disturbing.

The breakfast was rather disappointing, the coffee being absolutely vile! The small croissants and pastries were tasty enough, though. I had hoped to find a wider range of food and drink on offer. It would have been nice if there had been fresh orange juice, for example. The hotel is built round a large and attractive indoor courtyard, where one can enjoy a drink; the small bar is a bit smoky but not unpleasant.

Other reviewers were critical of the hotel staff. I am not. I found the staff working on the reception desk cheerful and friendly. I never needed to ask for their help, so I cannot comment on their helpfulness or otherwise.

Would I stay at the Bouregreg again? Definitely - and I would also recommend it to visitors to Rabat looking for a good value medium-priced hotel. Visitors to Rabat should be aware that decent hotels there are far from cheap.

A few restaurant recommendations. Just two Metro stops away (at Bab el Had) is an excellent and very moderately-priced Syrian restaurant called Yamal Acham. I'd also recommend Le Grand Comptoir (279 avenue Mohamed V), close to Rabat Ville station. Although expensive by Moroccan standards, the French cuisine is great and the wine surprisingly reasonably-priced. For more casual dining, try Cafe Weimar at the Goethe Institut, close to Bab er Rouah. Their pizzas and pasta dishes are really good.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which doesn't overlook the busy and noisy main street.

stayed only 1 night to my relief...
theres only so many times you can say "its morocco" well yes it is but that doesn't excuse anything in my view, if you want the money of european/international travellers then you should extend them a certain level of courtesy!! & cleanliness by westernised standards!!
the bell man was nice in his silly lil hat, no doubt only because putting your bag on wheels in a lift n showing you how to open a door warrants tipping!!
the room, well I've seen worse but not great!! terrible bathroom with inaccessible toilet!! dirty but with hot water.
bed was comfortable although i was scratching all night!! (bugs)!!
street noise at this hotel is an issue, i was in a back room & you can still here the constant honking from the grand taxi rank outside, no view, front would overlook the medina but noise levels would be ten fold!!
the location is good tho, close to medina, walking distance to other sights.
breakfast was terrible, everything was a trouble to them & just unwelcoming!! the quality of food was poor & possibly the most miserable barman I've met yet!!
rabats not worth seeing in my opinion, its ok for a night but id pass though only if i was to ever return although highly unlikely...

First impressions were ok. Decent reception area and the lifts work. The communal areas were clean, the breakfast was fine and requests for additional blankets and pillows were dealt with in a prompt and friendly way. The room was sadly in need of decoration but nothing worked. The toilet cistern's mechanism just came to bits and the radiator didn't work and there was no remote control for the tv. The management really need to thoroughly overhaul the rooms. Luckily I was only there one night.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else

This hotel is OK - conveniently located just by a gate to the Medina. It was a bit noisy but it settled down before it got too late - breakfast OK. All in all OK!! Take care just outside the hotel - the grand taxi drivers are a law unto themselves.

I stayed here for 5 nights in late October 2012. i booked through Expedia and the rate was very good. I got a quiet large room off the road. While dated it was clean and comfortable. Wi fi to the room was fine. Breakfast was basic but was included in the tarriff. The hotels restaurant food is not so good but excellent restaurants are available close by.
The location for the hotel is fine. It's close to the Medina and othwr attractions are in easy walking distance.
Unlike other reviewers I found the staff friendly. Reception were very helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for one off the main street

Basic hotel perfectly situated near the medina, and with some planning, within walking distance to Chellah, the Mausoleum, and the Kasbah de Oudaias. Breakfast was very good. My room was large and clean. There was a tiny balcony, perfect for people watching, but the street noise became almost unbearable at night. Seems the hotel is across from a taxi stand - lots and lots of honking all night.

Room Tip: My room faced the street and was very loud. I would ask for a non-streetside room.

I stayed here for one night in August 2012.
The Hotel is in a great location near the medina....and the kasbah is not too far away.
My room was away from the main road and was very quiet. But didnt have much of a view.
The room was on the smallish size...I had to walk sideways to get past the end of the bed and the TV.
The Bathroom was functional but a bit dated. I wouldnt suggest locking the bathroom door. A member of our party got stuck in her bathroom and had to yell for someone to come and get her for about 20minutes.
Breakfast was OK. I arrived at 7.30am and the staff were still setting it up....and seemed a bit put out that I was there. There was a good variety of breads, cheeses, yoghurt and fruit.
I found the staff that I came in contact with to be helpful and polite.
TIP: When you check in ask for the remote control for your Air Con and TV. For some reason they hold them down at reception. I had to go back for my air con control and when I got back to my room realised I didnt have the TV one. Doup!!!
I was happy to stay here for one night...and then move on.
