“Riad “Dar Rbaa Laroub”, a hidden guesthouse in the heart of the Medina.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2008

Dear All,

Just back from Marrakech and I wish sharing with you the hidden guesthouse which I discovered in Marrakech: Dar Rbaa Laroub, right in the Medina.

Jean Noel, the lovely French owner of Riad “Dar Rbaa Laroub”, has a genuine love of the country and wants their guests to discover and share it. Enormous detail has gone into every touch of this wonderful hidden guesthouse.

The chic, simple Dar Rbaa Laroub style is a blend of traditional Moroccan techniques with a modern twist and plenty of outside influences. The Dar Rbaa Laroub is available to be rented whole or as individual rooms - the eight rooms are spread over two levels and across two houses.

Simplicity not minimalism is the feeling here – rooms are furnished with a large bed, a chaise lounge, table, chair, fireplace in each room, framed photos or paintings, a mirror and a vase of freshly picked flowers.

There are no phones in the rooms nor mini-bars or televisions. Heavy linen curtains frame the view through the arched doorways out on the terraces and the courtyards. Some rooms are bright and colourful, others are more sober – each has a theme yet the overall style is harmonious. The Suite is very spacious with two rooms, lounge and a massive walk-in shower. A mix of old and new is found in the bathrooms with tadelakt walls and floors.

Breakfast is a true experience. A wonderful selection of fresh fruit, fresh bread, pastries, pancakes served with freshly-squeezed orange juice and yogurt, fantastic coffee and Moroccan tea.

Guest can have dinner either in the main salon or on the wonderful roof garden. They can either keep to themselves or chat to Jean Noel and fellow guests. A mixture of low backed chairs and sofas invite conversation. Fires roar in winter, and music is always gently present in the background. An outside salon provides white cushioned low level seating and there is often a breeze through the arches. Most of the food comes from Jean Noel kitchen and the flavours come through true and pure in the chef’s delicious creations.

Had a fantastic stay in the Riad. As soon as you step inside the main door its a little haven of peacefullness. The staff were so warm and welcoming that it didn't feel like you were staying in another bland and nameless hotel- instead it felt like you were at home. Enormous detail has gone into every touch of the hotel and you can feel the warmth and pride that the owner and the staff have for it. The rooms and roof terrace are very comfortable, the location is great (2 min walk to the souks and 5 min to Jemma El Fna square) and the service is brilliant. Breakfast was relaxed, served wherever we chose to eat, and delicious. My advise to anyone thinking of going ........ book now !, dont hesitate, the Riad is in a great location, rooms stylish, staff great.
