“Peace in the medina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2009

This was our first time to Morocco, so we wanted a relaxing place to stay where we could wind down in case we needed to. Marrakech itself was *very* friendly and there was no real need to "escape" anything. But the riad was the highlight of our stay anyway. The place is beautifully decorated and renovated in a mix of traditional Moroccan style and some influences from other "exotic" places, quiet and sparkling clean. The rooms vary in size but they are all very pretty indeed -- in particular the bathrooms. We stayed in Diva downstairs -- right next to the kitchen, but we didn't really mind. The roof terrace is a real winner -- the perfect place to have your breakfast in the morning or some mint tea (yummy!) in the afternoon. Rachid the owner and his staff were incredibly friendly and helpful (despite our very limited French -- Rachid speaks English), and the food was simply delicious (try the meat tagine with prunes and cinnamon).

The cat may indeed be a bit of a problem (as one of the previous reviewers said) but at least (s)he's as friendly as the rest of the staff. There was free WiFi; we couldn't connect at the beginning but just ask Rachid and he'll help you.

As far as the location goes, well, it sure is at the end of a narrow little passage and not so close to the main square (Jemaa el Fna). So it may be a good idea to book the transfer from the airport at least on your way in -- the driver led us to the riad. But once you get used to it, it's not a problem -- we had the excellent Rough Guide map with us (a must!) and only got lost once :)

I'm sure there are plenty of plusher, more luxurious or more impressive places in Marrakech. But in terms of the quality-to-price ratio, this is among the best places I've been to.

Overall, warmly recommended!

We spent 2 weeks in Morroco with our 2 kids (1 and 4 years old). Belbaraka was the best hotel we stayed in (4 days to start our trip). All the staff is very nice and carefull with the kids. The riad is a beauty and is very peaceful after a walk in the souk. We higly recommend this hotel which is amazing and not expensive.

Don't be put off by the walk to the hotel, those little winding streets seem to be the norm.!! That said we were a group, but I wouldn't like to walk there as a single female in the evening. The hotel was lovely with 5 rooms, each with it's own different style/theme. Unfortunately ours had a shower in the bath where the water ran onto the floor, but that's the only complaint. If you have cat allergies the cat that lives in the hotel might be a problem. The terrace is great for sitting out in the sun having breakfast and you can certainly fill up before heading out for the day. It is a traditional Moroccan breakfast, so don't expect hot food, but the food was lovely. We were welcomed to the hotel with tea and mini cakes and the same again before leaving. The hotel also has a computer with internet access. The hotel arranged a taxi to & from the airport for EUR 10 each way. The location of the hotel is convenient, with an easy walk to get to the souks and other interesting places.

Riad Maison Belbaraka is surely the best stay in Marrakech!

There are a lot of nice riads in Marrakech, but there is no place like Riad Maison Belbaraka!!
The rooms are very pretty (we stayed in cafe and vega), the bathrooms are stylish and the breakfast is delicious (enjoy it on the rooftop terrace!).
We really liked the relaxed atmosphere in the middle of busy Marrakech. very ' Zen' !

The best thing about the place is its very kind staff!!
As everybody knows: you can stay in the best hotels, but without good service it is nothing!
Charlotte and het husband Rashid (and their staff) made our stay unforgetable by providing us amazing dinners (please do not miss out on the Riads cooking!) and their kindness.
They gave us some good tips (where to go, good non typical tourist restaurants etc) and they even helped us out when we were having problems with the car rental (while we had already checked out).

Please see for yourself the wonderfull Riad Maison Belbaraka!!

  • Liked — The very relaxed atmosphere and its very kind staff!!
  • Disliked — actually: nothing!!
