We (family of 6, with “kids” in the range 13 to 21 years old) went there for an extended weekend January 2011, largely based on the good reviews in tripadvisor. The place is charming and affordable (as are many Riads in Marrakech), but the atmosphere and the staff makes Mur Akush really stand out. From the extended and informative email exchange with Maria (the owner) before the vacation, to the good-by wishes at the morning of our departure, we were taken care of with a hospitality and kindness which made us feel visiting family, not being in a hotel. Just one example of many: when one of the kids stayed at the Riad all day to do some “homework” , Rachid brought tea and food in the room several times during the day and nothing of it appeared on any bill ! Nor did the countless mint teas or extra orange juices. I can only add to the praise of many of the reviews here: Mur Akush was an excellent choice for our stay in Marrakech !
On the practical side, the Riad is easy to find (close to landmarks and a bigger road), there is a Mosque close by so the prayer calls may disturb those with very light sleep (it didn’t bother any of us), the center (Jemaa el Fna) is an easy 10 min walk along well lit major roads. We did a full day excursion to Ouarzazate (organised by the Riad) which was a long day, but driving through stunning landscape from the snow covered mountain pass to rocky deserts; worth every minute (and Dirham). Another day we took a guide to show us around in Marrakech; a great idea with kids (of any age) because they could ask freely anything which came to their mind, from the history of Islam to social security for the unemployed (and yes, also some questions about monuments and sights in Marrakech)..
