“Gorgeous Riad, Friendly staff, Great location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2010

We have just come back from Marrakech, and couldn't recommend our Riad more. From the moment we arrived the staff were nothing but friendly and helpful! Our room was lovely - really cool at night! The mint tea was great, and its location was convenient because it was a safe/simple 15minute walk from the square, yet not so close that everyone wanted to offer you tourist things the whole way home!

Would definately recommend, and if we ever go back, we will definately visit Riad Mur Akush!

I have been to Marrakech twice now, and traveling throughout Morocco for 4 months , and I have to say that this hotel met all my expectations. I stayed there for 3D2N

1) Accessibility

It was just so near everything! And a 2 min petit taxi ride away from JMF square (it is walkable too, but we decided to take a petit taxi because of the heat) From wherever you are (you just need to tell the taxi driver, next to la maison arabe OR derb zaouiya OR near mosque Doukkala and a 2 minute walk in later, you're there! It is just so convenient, and especially if you're traveling at night and intend to stay out very late, trust me, you wouldn't want to take a long walk inside the medina, through a maze of narrow streets, especially when it is dark and empty.

A petit taxi ride to Gueliz / Hivernage was also around 7 dirhams. The taxi ride to the Palmeraie was about 15-20 minutes. Not far.

2) Hospitality

2 of my friends came to visit me from Singapore, and we all just loved the staff! Zohra the cook, Mohammad the inn-keeper and Hasan....all lovely! we had dinner with them on our last night, because we grew so fond of them, like family.

They took care of us, as though we were guests in their home, and I've had experiences in some Riads, where they serve you tea or orange juice, and you notice that they charged you for those "tea time snack offerings" without your knowledge, and you get all ruffled with the principle of the matter? Well this Riad was totally different........they just gave us extra eggs for breakfast if we asked for it, or orange juic if we were very thirsty after a long day of walking through the heat for free! without being calculative about it.

Also, I drove Maria nuts, with several changes I made to the dates of my arrival and she graciously took them into account each time without losing her cool.

3) Rooms

We stayed in the suite at the top floor, and the moment we entered, we couldn't stop taking pictures. Maria and her husband have really concentrated on every single detail, from using the best quality soap/shampoo (Le Sens de Marrakech), which actually made us go to their store to buy some for ourselves. (hah) to the carpeting, the paintings they hung to the texture of the walls, to the bathroom doors even. Everything inspired me to decorate my future home in a similar way. It was incredibly charming.

Also, there was an IPOD dock in the room and several books (we found it interesting, that they could trust their guests with such items...) we could keep ourselves entertained with, and we loved the lush comfy beds of the room so much, we didn't really head out on both nights (because we just loved lounging around in the room)

Lastly, I would like to thank Maria and the rest of the staff, for making this experience so enjoyable... I am definitely going to come back and stay in this Riad again and have already started recommending this to all my friends.

PS: This is my first review on TA because I was inspired by my stay to write one.

Super time, stayed one night in a smaller room, Salem? moved to Suite Yassin which were both located on the first floor and highly recommended.

Friendly staff and yummy breakfast.

I would definately get collected for the airport, we also ordered dinner on arrival and enjoyed it by candlelight on the roof terrace which was a lovely start to the holiday!

Riad suggested Les Bains de Marrakesh and they WERE NOT WRONG! Fabulous half day spa - payed deposit via PayPal in UK and treated like a king and queen.

We also did a day trip to the Atlas Mts which the Riad kindly booked also :-)

Enjoyed restaurants - Al Fassia and Grand Cafe de la Poste and a trip to eat at the Night Market is essential.

Overall super time both in the Riad and Marrakesh.

We appreciated the service long before we even arrived in Marrakech...emails were answered promptly and useful information provided. The pick up at the airport made for a smooth transition and staff were welcoming and helpful. Our room was pleasant and the place was peaceful--a welcome respite from days filled with heat, noise and walking!

Free wi-fi was a bit shaky--when it worked, it did so only downstairs in the courtyard.

My 80 year old mother and I stayed here for 5 nights at the end of May and were delighted by the whole experience. From the welcoming mint tea and sweetmeats on arrival to the car to the airport on departure all was near perfect. The building is beautiful and very well maintained. Our room (Suite Yassin) was spacious and well appointed. The communal areas, inside and out are inviting, but it's best asset is the staff. Each one was always cheerful, helpful and well informed, nothing was too much trouble. I can't praise them enough. Breakfasts were wonderful and the evening meal in was one of the best we had in Morocco.
It's located within the medina, half way between the main square and the new town. It's probably only 10 minutes walk to the souks and square (more to museums and palaces), but there is so much of interest to distract the visitor that it can take much longer. Taxis are affordable and easy to pick-up. Wandering around the immediate area was a very different, no less enjoyable, experience to the madness of the souks. Apart from the usual precautions when being in a big city, at no time did my person or pocket feel in danger, day or night.
Day trips can be arranged out of town with a good car and an enthusiastic and entertaining English-speaking driver. I would recommend a trip to the Cascades d'Ouzoud, very impressive waterfalls. It's not necessary to have an additional guide once there, but ours was exceptional, taking us the long way around, bypassing the souvenir stalls via interesting old homes, olive groves and fossilized tree remains. He was particularly helpful to my mother, descending the steep path on the less used side of the falls and was a font of information about life in Morocco. Another enjoyable trip took in the weekly market at Asni then on to Imlil travelling up a particularly fertile and attractive valley.

We had a lovely time at the Riad- it is like an oasis of calm in a busy city! The owners were very friendly and helpful posting a postcard for us, finding lost items and bringing us drinks (we were never charged for any of these things and a tip was never demanded at any point unlike most place in the city!).
It is within walking distance of the souks and main square. We recommend asking them to arrange your airport transfer and meal on the first day as these were both great and eased the pressure of sorting it out ourselves.

We stayed in Riad Mur Akush in the second part of our honeymoon in Marrakech. Whilst not as plush as our first riad, we found the staff at Riad Mur Akush extremely friendly. We only had two days left to spend and the riad was very cosy and comfortable. We only just arrived and casually mentioned that we were looking for a quad bike excursion, that the manager, Mohammed, managed to arrange one for us with pick up at the riad for the morning after! We also arranged an in-house cooking lesson with Zohra, the chef, a very friendly lady who speaks French. Her cuisine is delicious and she and the rest of the staff made us feel really at home. We stayed in room Hammam, a large and very comfortable room. It is just short of a 10-min walk to the main square and also very close to the Nouvelle Ville. Overall a very pleasant and memorable stay and really friendly staff!
