“An excellent choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

After reading so many excellent reviews about Mur Akush, we decided to spend 2 nights there, before going on a tour in the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara desert. This riad is amazing, with authentic rooms, decorated & furnished beautifully. We stayed in the Hammam Suite, which had a small balcony and an amazing bathroom. You will hear the mosque very early in the morning, but you should be alright with ear plugs.
We were impressed with the spectacular views of the Atlas Mountains on their roof terrace, where we had breakfast first morning. Food is incredibly tasty and we're glad we had booked dinner the night when we arrived, as it was one of the best Moroccan meals we've had: mixed salad & chicken tagine, followed by fresh and delicious melon and strawberries. The owner and the staff were very nice and friendly and they made us feel very welcome. Everything was well organised, including the booking via email with Maria, the airport pick up taxi, the meals, etc. Mur Akush is in a great location, just 10 minutes by foot from the Koutoubia Mosque and Jamaa el Fna. Overall, an excellent choice of accommodation and a very interesting city.

Room Tip: Hammam Suite, on the 1st floor, is really special and the bed is big and comfortable. Plus, you get...

I can only add to the chorus of glowing reviews. Stayed for a week in March 2013 with my girlfriend, and we were constantly delighted by the beauty of the riad, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, and the oasis of calm in the midst of the chaos of the medina. Location is perfect, and we had a wonderful time both around the city and relaxing & dining at the riad.

Highly recommended.

Our experience with the Riad Mur Akush from the moment we booked from our house in the UK to the moment we left was exceptional. Maria, the owner, is so friendly, approachable and helpful that we immediately knew this was the place we wanted to stay. I can only describe the first moment we arrived there as a magical experience.

We arrived at sunset as the medina was just waking up for the evening activities, wheeled our suitcases down an ancient allyway to a small door, through which we were welcomed in to what i can only describe as a beautiful little palace, an oasis of calm filled only with the sound of the beautiful bubbling morrican tiled water feature and the sweet aromatic smells of incense and mint tea.

Maria upgraded us to the Grand Suite Amel after discovering that we were celebrating my birthday, and the staff were extremely helpful with maps, tips and advice for our stay.

The breakfast was authentic, fresh, delicious and generous every morning and we also opted one evening for a private dinner on the rooftop terrace, which again was exceptional, made even more magical as we watched the sunset and listened to the sounds if the evening prayer calls echo throughout out the city from the various mosques.

The Riad does not serve alcohol, as most Riads do not, however they do not object to you bringing your own and there are supermarkets in the city where you can buy wine or beer etc.

Marrakech s a wonderful city to visit, the hustle and bustle of the souks is exciting but combined with the heat of the african sun the days can be tiring. So, theres nowhere better way to begin and end each day of your stay there in your own mini oasis at Riad Mr Akush.

After out two nights at the riad we cancelled our original plans to leave Marrakech and extended our stay! We found the Riad Mur Akush to be well situated and within walking distance from the main square and the new city! Without exception, everyone of the staff was immensely helpful. We were so well taken care of by with Muhamed and Raschid , and well fed by Layla and Zola who make wonderful fresh tagines ( order ahead) and breakfasts. The fresh squeezed orange juice and Morrocan pancakes were such a special treat! . The owner Maria went out of her way to assist me when I realized I had left something in the Riad after we had checked out. All of this so far is about the people! The Riad itself is lovely and breakfast a delight! On the finest days we enjoyed our meals on the rooftop terrace. Muhamed and Rachid arranged for an excursion into the Atlas Mountains. This also was a highlight of our stay. We felt so at home that it was difficult to say good bye to new friends and a wonderful city.

Room Tip: If you are in Marrakech in the cooler seasons ask for the room with the fireplace. We loved this roo...

From the initial email contact with the owner, Maria, to staying at the Riad itself proved to be a great experience. Careful study of Tripadvisor reviews bore out in that all our expectations for our stay were fully met. The service throughout was always professional, helpful and friendly.. Rachid and his staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant and provided some delicious evening meals from fresh ingredients bought on the day. The location of the riad suited us well; a quiet area but only a short distance from a very vibrant area full of shops and local life. The Jemma el Fna was within walking distance,or if you wanted to save your energy for the frenzy of the souqs you could take a readily available small taxi. Our room exceeded our expectations, beautifully decorated with quality finishings and spotlessly clean. What more could you ask.
Simply a great place to stay

Room Tip: We stayed in room meli which was great, can't comment on the others

Having been let down by another Riad this was our second choice and rather last minute as a result but that is doing Riad Mur Akush a disservice because I am SO SO glad we stayed there instead. Maria who owns the Riad is based in the UK and sorted out the booking and airport transfers, made sure there was a hair dryer in the room etc etc. We arrived later than expected due to a flight delay but our driver was waiting to whisk us through the Medina to the Riad where Rachid greeted us with mint tea and sweet pastries. First impression was how peaceful and beautiful the Riad was and Rachid was uber helpful and continued to be throughout our 5 night stay. I can honestly say that for Rachid and the team nothing was too much trouble. Our every need was catered for - there was no time limit on when we had breakfast ( a mix of pastries, yoghurt, fruit and pancakes with honey) the dinner we had one evening was delicious and cooked on the spot, Rachid even went to the supermarket to procure some wine to go with it. He organised an excursion to Essaouira (a must see) with Sharif our multi lingual driver and ensured I got to see the goats in trees!
Our room (the Yassmin suite) was traditionally and tastefully decorated. The bathroom had what looked like an original brass shower and sink and was huge. we had a change of white fluffy towels mid week and there was always plenty of hot water. The roof terrace with sun beds and swing chairs had a view over the city and was somewhere quiet to relax, it was possible to have breakfast up there too.
The Riad is 10 mins walk from the main square and you can also reach the northern area of the souks by cutting across the top of the Medina so we walked everywhere and avoided using the taxis.
All in all a fantastic place to stay, perfect in every way. Rachid, if you are reading this, thank you for looking after David and I so well :-)

Room Tip: Marrakech is a Muslim city and there are mosques everywhere so if you stay anywhere in the Medina an...

I did a fair bit of research before choosing this Riad and my choice was spot on!
It lived up to everything we have read about it or were expecting.
Location - 15 min walk away from the Jamaa el Fna Sq - thus we could get away from the hustle and bustle and see the local life as we were walking to the more tourist places.
Location wise, you can also take a short cut to the Medersa and the Larousse area, which I highly recommend - quieter and more interesting shopping, not like in the souks.
Room - Yassin suite highly recommended. There is aircon/heating in each room if you need it, we did not. Cleanliness - to the level it should be.
The Riad is very close to Bab Dukala Mosque, so light sleepers should have this in mind. This did not bother us, on the opposite - added to the charm and authenticity of the experience.
Breakfast - prepared on the spot, sumptuous - rotating local pancakes with other local "stuff", fresj orange juice the norm.
Staff - the young man at reception was very friendly and informative. We did not use the riad's tourist services as we travelled by rentacar. There is a parking lot nearby, easy to find, inexpensive.
There is a hammam close by - I tried it - more of a tourist experience, would recommend a local one, there is one near the Medersa.
If we visit Marrakech again, we plan to stay at this Riad again!

Room Tip: Yassin suite - spacious, on the first floor (not on the top - we found the first floor the most suit...
