“Lovely experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

It took some time to choose the Riad for our stay in marrakech with so many on offer but based on the great reviews of Mur Akush and it's central location we went for it.
From the time of enquiry the service was friendly and professional. On arrival the driver was waiting for us and we received a warm welcome from Rachid when we arrived at the Riad. We were shown to our room, Room Meli which is on the second floor. it was lovely and despite not having the title of suite like the other room of the Riad it is a luxurious, very large room with a seating area, fireplace and lovely bathroom.
Nothing was too much trouble for Rachid who served us breakfast wherever we wanted whenever we wanted it, answered all of our questions and help with everything and anything we could possibly need.
We had arranged to change rooms for the last night and went to one of the suites on the first floor. it was still a lovely room but we preferred our room Meli. The suite was a little darker as its on the first floor with no direct sunlight.
I cannot recommend the Riad enough, it is a perfect oasis of calm and friendliness to escape from the hustle and bustle of marrakech.

Room Tip: make sure you double check you know where you are going when you leave the riad and how to get back...

For my 70th birthday treat we decided to spend 7 nights in a riad in Marrakesh with 2 long standing friends. After much research I chose the Mur Akush, and what a find that was! From the moment we were met at the airport to the time of our departure we were spoilt. Everything we enquired about or requested was there in an instant. We were treated with kindness and courtesy by everyone working in the riad.
The Mur Akush is tucked away down a little back street in the Medina. An oasis of cool amid the chaos that is Marrakesh. We had two suites that were very comfortable, traditional and exceptionally clean. We spent time on the roof terrace lounging on sunbeds and swinging hammocks enioying the winter sunshine. We ate several times at the riad; beautifully presented dishes, tagines, couscous and kebabs, all cooked to order. Breakfast set us up for the day's exploring. We booked a day's excursion into the Atlas Mountains with our own driver and guide. All arranged by Rashid and Mohammed. A wonderful experience and very reasonably priced. Riad Mur Akush was all we asked for and more. The whole team made us welcome and did everything to make our stay memorable. I would recommend this riad to anyone contemplating a visit to this vibrant city.

Room Tip: The suite on the top floor has a separate sitting room and a fire place. Suite yasmine on the first...

I have never stayed in a riad before, so was surprised and delighted when we got there. It felt as if we were transported back to an exotic past. My husband and I and two friends stayed at this riad for 4 nights. Our friends organised the booking, and we were picked up at the airport by the riad manager. It was all very efficient. We also booked a meal at the riad on the night of our arrival, which was a very good Morracan food, and a wise move on the first night. Our room was delightful, traditionally and very tastefully designed. We were very comfortable. Unfortunately our friends chose a ground floor room, which seemed damp. The management were very sympathic, and were able to move them. Unfortunately they had to move twice as the riad was fully booked, but ended up with a gorgeous suite in the end.
The breakfasts were very good (traditional Morrocan breads, and fresh orange juice, scrummy!) and was served on the roof terrace, which had spectacular views across to the Atlas mountains. One could'nt ask for a better situation. All the staff were helpful and very pleasant. We also met one of the owners who related the history of the riad, very interesting. He plans a display charting the riad's history in the lounge area.
Riad Mur Akush, is very conveniently situated, and is short walk to the medina and the souks. The riad also organised a tour guide for us, who took us on an excellent walking tour. This is well worth doing if you have never been to Marrakech before. In total this is one of the best holiday stays I have experienced, and would certainly return to Riad Mur Akush.

Room Tip: Choose a first or second floor room in the winter

We spent 2 nights in Suite Amel before leaving on a 4 day tour then returned for a further 2 nights. The organisation happily accommodated this broken visit, indeed it seems to be a common practice.
From first contact it was clear that this is a well-run Riad. Everyone is welcoming and efficient. Our room was clean, the bed large and comfortable and the heating quiet and effective. The generous evening meals were as good as any we found and breakfasts were excellent. The roof terrace is well-furnished and affords a splendid view of the Atlas mountains.
We will definitely return.

Was the lucky one to get a surprise weekend in Marrakech beginning of February 2013 and we stayed 2 nights at the charming Riad Mur Akush. Ahh... what a wonderful place, one feels at home straight away. A very friendly welcome, well organized check-in and absolutely helpful in every way.

We had our room at the top floor, a big bedroom with a lovely 4 poster bed (and very important…a very comfortable mattress!) and a lounge area with a fire place. The bathroom is enormous (when compared to other hotels) with a fabulous big shower. Everything tastefully decorated with local traditional furniture and interesting big mirrors. Every room is different: some smaller some bigger. Very creative indeed. At night it is quiet and you sleep like a baby, though if you are a light sleeper be aware that the Riad is very close to a mosque and the dawn call to prayer may disturb you.

We had dinner on the evening of our arrival at the Riad which was perfectly fine but just a bit too much for 2!! If you want some wine with dinner or for an aperitif, you better request it in advance since the Riad, like many in the Medina, is not licenced (very kindly they organized it for us within short without any problems). Since it was sunny and already quite warm, we had our breakfast on the roof terrace - you can also have it in the patio or in the room if you wish - with a splendid view over the city and the mountains.

The Riad is well placed in the old town, short walking distance to the souks and the main square.
Really I would have liked to keep this place secret but I need to thank everyone at the Riad again for our super perfect stay. Please don’t change - we will come again!!

PS: we recommend a visit to the ‘Jardin Majorelle’ – absolutely beautiful garden with the most amazing colours. The restaurant there is also good!

Morocco is bustling, noisy and full of salesmen, donkey-carts, horsedrawn carriages and mopeds. Without such a tranquil base to return to, we would soon have become exhausted. We enjoyed a picnic lunch on the roof-top terrace in warm sunshine (in February), with food we had purchased and brought back, having been provided with plates and cutlery when we asked.
Tucked away in a secluded side-street, Mur Akush is in a perfect spot, because, as well as being within the historic Medina, where there are many sites of interest to visit, it is also near to the new part of the city - a short walk takes you to the wall of the Medina and into the modern city-streets, where it is not much further to the famous Majorelle Garden, which is full of strange cactuses and trees - well worth a visit. With the city map, presented to us on our arrival at Mur Askush, we were able to navigate to and from the Riad without assistance from the many willing local guides who offered us their services.
The only glitch we experienced was with the plumbing. In our bathroom, the basin had hot and cold taps marked 'C' for chaud (hot) and 'F' for froid (cold) - fine, because we expected French labels. But the shower/bath taps were labelled 'Cold' and 'Hot' - which would have been fine, except that the one which started with a 'C' was chaud (hot) and a certain amount of water was sadly wasted trying to get hot water out of the tap marked 'Hot'! Not a problem once you know how it is.
We would definitely love to stay here again.

My sister and I stayed in Riad Mur Akush for 3 nights this past January. We loved it! We stayed in the Grand Suite Amel on the top floor and used the airport pick up service. We were picked up right on time and everything went smoothly. We were greeted with mint tea and pastries and from then on, the trip only got better. Everyone at the riad was gracious and accommodating. They booked a lovely tour guide for us and we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner at the riad. Our suite was spacious and beautiful. The beds were comfortable and I loved the shower! There were small issues with the wifi, being on the top floor, but they worked diligently to fix it. We loved the rooftop terrace as well - we relaxed in the hanging chairs (very comfy!) and ate breakfast there until the bees took over, lol. All in all, I greatly enjoyed my time at the riad and I would definitely stay there again when visiting Marrakech.

Room Tip: The Grand Suite Amel is HUGE and the bathroom is huge as well. The sofa can be made into a twin bed...
