My wife and I stayed at this riad for two nights in mid-April, 2009. Even before we arrived, the riad distinguished itself for its incredible service.
The riad provided complimentary pick-up from the train station. When we arrived Hamid greeted us and helped us with our luggage. We were the only ones staying at the riad (it currently has only three rooms, including the suite) so we were automatically upgraded to the suite. Hamid gave us a tour of the riad, and showed us the other two rooms before taking us to the suite.
After we settled in, we went down to have dinner. The food was delicious and the portions too big for us to finish. A tasty hearty soup, followed by chicken tajine and a mountain of cous cous. It was a great welcome to Marrakech.
The suite is quite big and is very luxurious. The bed was very comfortable. The living room area has a nice flat screen t.v with satellite receiver, a Sony Playstation 3 and dvd player. There is also a selection of dvds on the shelf under the t.v. There is free wi-fi throughout the riad, and there are laptops to use in the lounge area in case you don't have your own computer.
The bathroom is beautiful with a double shower (good water pressure) and tub in one large area, and double sink in a separate area. One small drawback is that the toilet is tucked away into a small closet (for lack of a better word).
One of our favourite features of this riad was the breakfast. It is served on the incredible roof terrace with its great views of the medina. The breakfast consisted traditional Moroccan pancakes with the most delicious potato spread accompanying it (it is sweet, not savoury, and doesn't taste a thing like potato, more like apple butter). A nice cup of fresh fruit (one day strawberries, the other kiwi), bread, and some yogurt are also served. Very good coffee arrives at the table in the coffee press in which it is brewed.
The location of this riad is excellent. It is a fairly close to the souks and Djemma El Fna and you may actually prefer some of the little shops you encounter on the way to the central souks. Despite its proximity to the souks, the riad is actually very quiet and you don't realize where you are until you walk a few minutes away from it.
Some complimentary perks that we didn't find anywhere else during our 6-week trip were extremely useful and really put this place over the top. First, the riad allows you free use of a mobile phone, which has the number for the riad programmed into it should you need to call while you are out. Second, free laundry service. No kidding. Absolutely free. We had about 8 days worth of laundry and it came back in less than 24 hours perfect folded in our room. Finally, when we were going out to eat at a nearby restaurant, Elsa arranged for a guide to take us to and from the restaurant to make sure we didn't get lost at night in the medina (again this was provided to us for free, except of course the tip).
If we ever go back to Marrakech, we would definitely stay here again. Elsa, the manager, does an excellent job running the place and Hamid, who did everything from serving us breakfast to carrying our luggage to our room, made us feel at home and made our stay a memorable and enjoyable one.
