Description: In the heart of the Medina and Souks of Marrakech lies the Rahba Kedima spice square, where old women gather to pound henna for traditional tattoos and sell hand knitted hats, while seasoned vendors run the surrounding spice stores. Within this setting is the now famed Cafe des Epices, the perfect meeting place and rest stop from the heat and commotion of the souks. The inexpensive menu is focused on the simple and fresh, offering teas and coffee, freshly made juices, sandwiches, salads and crepes. The design is correspondingly simple: deliberately paired down and basic in order to offer a peaceful resting place after the visual overload of the Souks. Built over 3 floors, the top terrace offers great views over the square and surrounding Medina, the non-smoking 2nd floor salon is a great place to lounge and the ground floor and outdoor tables are fantastic places from which to watch the colourful comings and goings of the spice square market. Open daily from 9am to 10pm

“Trevligt för lunch eller fika”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

This cafe is excellently located in the middle of the souk north of the big square. The prices are moderate, the service friendly and good - and not pushy - and you can idle away there at your leisure if you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the souk around you. Clearly recommended.

“Only did lunch, but boy was it on the money!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Seated, served and slurping a cold Fanta within 2 minutes of even seeing the place. This little gem is just what you need to recharge and fortify yourself before heading back into the souks.

Great views of the little square and a perfect spot to people watch. Indeed we saw many people on the roof terrace sitting back and nursing a mint tea for hours to enjoy this spot.

The sandwiches are terrific also. In the 45 degree heat of midday... they are filling, tasty and light on the old tummy. Perfect!

“Cafe in the spice souk with a great view from the terrace”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

We just had beverages on the roof terrace. The service was super slow. I mean, I think we waited 40 minutes just for the waiter to come to our table. Then, they brought me a Sprite instead of a sparkling water. I drank it anyway but, for the record, Sprite and eau gazeuse sound completely different. Even with an accent. We did meet some new friends here. A lovely German couple that were in Marrakech for their honeymoon. Thus, I have no regrets of our time spent here. The view of this little square in the spice souk is amazing, too. The rooftop has it's charm. Just don't expect speedy service.

“Friendly, cheap cafe for a spot of lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

A great find in the spice souk - sit and have cheap but good food with the aroma of spices and views of the small square where you can people watch! Menu is small but all you need for a snack or lunch - sandwiches and salads etc. Very friendly and polite staff who speak good English.
