Description: In the heart of the Medina and Souks of Marrakech lies the Rahba Kedima spice square, where old women gather to pound henna for traditional tattoos and sell hand knitted hats, while seasoned vendors run the surrounding spice stores. Within this setting is the now famed Cafe des Epices, the perfect meeting place and rest stop from the heat and commotion of the souks. The inexpensive menu is focused on the simple and fresh, offering teas and coffee, freshly made juices, sandwiches, salads and crepes. The design is correspondingly simple: deliberately paired down and basic in order to offer a peaceful resting place after the visual overload of the Souks. Built over 3 floors, the top terrace offers great views over the square and surrounding Medina, the non-smoking 2nd floor salon is a great place to lounge and the ground floor and outdoor tables are fantastic places from which to watch the colourful comings and goings of the spice square market. Open daily from 9am to 10pm

Situated on the north side of the Spice Market this is an excellent place to have a lunchtime snack and watch the world go by. We had cheese sandwiches which were adequate and mint tea which was excellent

“Cool sandwich bar in the souks”

Cool bar with nice sunny terrace. After getting lost in the small streets of the souks, this place feels like a lovely oasis. We had a delicious kefta sandwich.

“A "safe" haven in the heart of the Medina”

In the middle of the Marrakech Medina you find a nice cafe run by young people very efficiently. Sandwich Kefta is highly recommended.

“Lovely lunch”

My family and I had lunch at the Cafe Des Epices twice during our stay in Marrakech and both times we ordered the chicken sandwich (Sandwich au poulet) which was very delicious. The staff was nice and helpful when we needed some assitance finding one of the other restaurants with the same owner, they even had one of the employees show us the way through the souks.

“Good food and drink at good prices”

Food here is not cordon bleu - salads and sandwiches are the order of the day. Typical prices 30 dirham (€3) for tuna to 45 dirham (€4.50) for meats and the sandwich is well filled with salad etc. Tea for one starts at 10 dirham (€1) as does coffee, depending on what you have. The orange salad with cinnamon is worth a taste, too.

The view from the roof is great, especially at sunset, and it can get really busy.

This cafe is well worth visiting, and extremely well priced given you're in a major tourist area of th souks.
