Owner description: The world-renowned cooking workshops at La Maison Arabe are open to hotel guests and those staying elsewhere in Marrakech. At the half-day classes, one learns the secrets of Moroccan cuisine, considered the most refined on the African continent. The workshops are run by a dada (traditional Moroccan chef), a translator (French/English), and include a visit to a nearby spice market and communal bread oven. After the workshop, during which every participant has worked alongside the dada at his or her own workstation, one dines on the delicious meal that's been prepared. “Relaxing, informative & fun cooking class!”

The cooking class with Mohammed Nahir was amazing - he took lots of time to explain every step of the recipes, but also interesting background info as well. The meal we made was so delicious, and the setting at La Maison Arabe was beautiful - pretty much a perfect experience!

“Great tutors, locations and food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

My partner and I are both big foodies and love cooking so it was always part of our plan while visiting Marrakech to take a Moroccan cooking class. We had an idea of which one we would do (from Lonely Planet guide) but found it was all booked up for the week we were in town, so we looked online and found this one. I was cautious at first as this particular course was quite a bit more expensive than the other half day courses we looked at. In retrospect, we don't regret one bit! It really is a fantastic place to learn to cook.

We were welcomed into Le Maison Arabe and guided through the beautifully decorated hotel to the pool-side dining area, where we met our teacher, Mohammed (poly-lingual). We sat down for 30-40 minutes while he explained the basic concepts to Moroccan cooking and guided us through the recipes we'd be cooking. Next Mohammed took us into the kitchen (fully kitted out for 10 students - although it was just the two of us in our session - low season), we cooked along with the chef as they showed us how to prepare each part of the dish (chicken tagine with aubergine starter). After we'd finished we were seated next to the pool again and served our food with 3 fantastic Moroccan wines. At the end we were given recipes cards and a terracotta tagine each to take home.

I can't recommend this course highly enough. If you're willing to spend a little more money than you would at some of the other schools then this is definitely the one for you.

“So much Fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012

One day we took a cooking class at la Maison Arabe, and it's was just so much fun. The young women translator - her name was Wafa-was very informative and patient with us. we all cooked a wonderful chicken tagine, then sat down poolside and enjoyed our meal with delicious Moroccan wine. It was all too wonderful.

“Fun, delicious, original.”

My husband and I immediately fell in love with the delicious local cuisine and so
jumped at the idea of a cooking class. The kitchen space was beautiful
and clean and everything was well organized. The yummy dishes we prepared
were served to us later as our lunch. We highly recommend this cooking class
as a way of bringing home a bit of Morocco with you, if like us you don't have space

“Great food and cookery classes too”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

One of the highlights of our holiday was a half-day cookery school at La Maison Arabe, a hotel and restaurant in the Marrakech medina. The instruction was excellent, the introduction to Moroccan spices and cooking Moroccan salads, tagines and pastillas was enlightening and we got to eat what we cooked!
