“A Real Gem In Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2010

We decided to go to Marrakech for a few days and searched the web for a place to stay, this is where we dicovered Riad Azenzer, the owners Saïd and Cécille and there staff were really friendly and helpful and made you feel very much at home. We were shown to our room the Chefchaouen which was really nice indeed The owners contacted us by email a couple of days before we arrived to ask if we wanted a evening meal, and as we were arriving about 1930hrs we thought it was a good idea, the meal was very good indeed and a must if you are arriving in evening as to get your bearings in Marrakech in the dark on arrival unless you have been before would be a nightmare. You could have your breakfast either by the small pool or on the roof terrace which was very nice, it consisted of local bread marmalade, jam, honey and home cooked pancakes, fruit mint tea & coffee to get you set for the day, whilst we were having our breakfast Cécille the owner gave us a map and directions to he Souks and main square and answered any other qustions we had, whch was really nice. The location of the Riad is very good and its in a quite area of the medina away from the hustle and bustle of the Souks and el djemaa fna square which is about a ten to fifteen minute walk away. If we were to visit Marrakech we would certainly use the Riad Azenzer again.

As soon as you step though the door off of the hot, dusty street you will feel a sense of calm and safety. The riad is a little gem with only 5 rooms so you get a very personal service from the ever friendly and helpful staff. I would recommend the airport pick up and finding this place would be very difficult first time around, and a lot of the maps don't have the details fine enough to map the little streets and alleyways. The breakfast is lovely and we also had dinner one night which was the best tagine we had during our stay, so highly recommended. One word of warning for any all female groups, you will be hassled by the local teenage boys so get one of the staff to walk you to the main square the first time you go as we tried it on our own and got lost whilst trying to keep away from the 'tourguides' who want to charge you upwards of £20 to take you to the square.

Very nice and pleasant riad. Not easy to find especially on your arrival. It took a few days to find a route back from the main square to the riad, but this is probably true for all riads, and visitors to Marrakech.
Food is very good, and it was relaxing to be picked up from the airport and have dinner waiting for us.
The mint tea is good (the best we could find in Marrakech), but charged for.

I stayed here with my boyfriend on the first couple of nights of our holiday. It is a lovely riad! The staff are really friendly and welcoming - they gave us directions to the main places of interest in Marrakech. We would definitely recommend eating there - the food was absolutely delicious!
The bedroom was clean and nice decorated with a balcony over the pool. The roof terrace was very nice.
The riad is not very far from the main square - Place Djemaa el Fna, about 15 minutes walk north, however we got a bit lost in the maze of streets so its definitely worth taking a small map!
I would also advise organising someone to meet you at one of the wall gates when you arrive as it can be quite hard to get your bearings, there are few road signs and the riad doesn't have any sign outside indicating where it is. We arranged an airport transfer and were walked to the riad from the gate.

Very cozy riad with small inner swimming pool. Rooms are very nicely decorated. If possible, avoid ground floor room as it is a bit noisy, but good anyway. Staff very very friendly and helpful. A bit hard to find, as there is no sign, so call beforehand and fix a randez-vous.

The first impressions of Riad Azenzer do not disappoint - the pictures on the website, whilst beautiful, cannot portay the seductive charm of this lovely riad. The rooms have everything you need and are a comfortable size and the communal areas around the pool and on the sunny terrace were the perfect place to relax away from the chaos of the medina. The staff could not be more friendly and attentive, serving a nice breakfast whenever we arose in the morning, plus cold drinks at any time during the day. In terms of cleanliness the villa was spotless and the rooms were pleasantly cool without the need for aircon, despite the temperature reaching the high 30s.

Two words of warning. Firstly the bathrooms have no door so be prepared for heightened levels of intimacy (!). Secondly, this riad is in the heart of the northern medina in an area where few tourists visit. Initially this was slightly overwhelming, particularly when leaving the riad for the first time - the local youths pounced on every moment of directional indecision as an opportunity to offer their services as unofficial tour guides. However, once we got our bearings and were able to navigate with confidence, it was easy to appreciate the remoteness of this location from the tourist hotspots, with the result that we felt closer to experiencing the real way of life of the Marrakechis.

We had a very pleasant stay here. The riad is in a more residential area with not many tourists about, so you get a nice feel for the city. It is a 10-15 minute stroll to the Jamaa El Fna square and all the main tourist parts of the medina. The rooms are simple, clean and pleasantly decorated with ensuite bathroom. The staff very helpful and there is a TV, a computer, Wifi and a small pool in the patio area and a nice roof terrace with a lovely covered area with sofas and cushions which was perfect for lazing around on to hide from the mid afternoon heat.
