“immerse yourself in Marrakech with great service and comfort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2010

There are many great choices in Marrakech but, for the unique experience of a riad stay, Riad Noir D'Ivoire is a terrific choice. We had a wonderful first visit to Marrakech thanks to the personal service and lovely accomadations at Riad Noir D'Ivoire. Jill, the proprietress, Damien, the house mgr/conceirge, and all the warm and smiling staff make for a very special expierence. They make sure you have a wonderful time exploring, dining, shopping, etc no matter what your comfort level, ie: extensive routes on maps, cell phone in case you get misplaced, a driver or even one of the staff escorting you to the taxi stand or meeting you at the end of the evening to escort you back to the riad from dinner. They were able to recommend and reserve all sorts of enjoyable excursions that were spot on with what we like. Marrakech is quite safe so one can independently venture out as well. Rooms and the public spaces in the riad very elegantly reference "moroccan" design while offering comfort and modern amenities; the photos on their website only hint at the lovely and sophisticated interiors. Located off a quiet lane a 15 min walk from the main square, Djmaa-el-Fna, allows for accessibility but peace and quiet for a restful stay. We only had a short 3 night stay but, would happily return to actually relax at the riad itself!

We book Noird'Ivoire after reading the Tripadvisor reviews and were delighted with our choice. We travelled in february for my birthday. As other reviewers have mentioned the Riad is in an small alleyway, behind high walls and large doors - the approach was even more dubious as they were digging up the alley to lay cables and there was mud everwhere (made worse by the recent rains)
One the door opended it was like walking into a palace. The Riad is beautifully decorated and furnished by Jill the owner. Sounds cliched but it's an oasis of calm and traquillity in the middle of a chaotic and colourful city. We ate breakfast on the roof terrace (complete with champagne and cake for my birthday!) and dined by an open fire. There is a small gym (although why would you in such a laid back place!) a lovely pool (think it's heated - husband swam in february and went back for more the next day) While we only stayed 4 days, we had 2 hammams (the Riad has it's own) followed by the most wonderful massage. The food was good, simple but delicious. A very extensive wine selection - we drank Moroccan red which was good and reasonably priced. The staff were all lovely and very helpful and Damien, the manager was a guide to Marrakech in human form with plenty of tips and advice for where to shop, eat, visit etc.
If it is your first visit to Marrakech and you are looking for the excitment of the Medina and Souks on your doorstep plus the luxury and relaxation of a traditional Riad then Noir d'Ivoire is ideal. I've just booked a return trip in October! It's the place to go for a treat - while not the cheapest Riad in town - it was well worth every euro we spent!
One small tip - Jill has a small collection of cats she has rescued/adopted - they are lovely and add to the charm of the place - an bonus for cat lovers but allergy sufferers pack your medication just in case.

Imagine a little muddy road in the middle of the medina, where only a monkey can pass, a wooden door like so many others, you ring....a little bird sings,a warm smile welcomes you, and you enter a fairy-tale of 1001 nights, candle lights, intimite seats, crackling fire places, nice music, a breathtaking place where every room is a gem !!

On top of it you get a service you can only experience some lucky times in your life! Jill and Damien pamper you from day one, give you tips and advice, provide you with nice places to visit, where have lunch or dinner, and assist you on any request you have .....

We stayed for 7 nights, we enjoyed every minute , and we will come back !! Inschallah !!

My wife and I arrived on 7th February for a 3 night stay
After being met at the nearby square by the Riad staff (accompanied by their donkey Cous Cous to carry our luggage), we were taken to the Riad
We were given a very warm welcome by Damien who runs front of house and were also introducted to Jill who is the owner. We stayed in the Panthere suite which was very large and opulent and included both a balcony looking into the Riad plus its own terrace including breakfast area, sunbeds and jacuzzi.
Riad Noir d'Ivoire has been furnished using local materials and furniture to an incredibly high standard. The setting in the centre of the buidling around the water, particulary at dusk when the candles are lit, is beautiful
The Riad is very conveniently located on the edge of both the Medina - the traditional shopping area housing the hundreds of souks - and the New Town, home to some amazing bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
Our intended 3 night stay turned into a 7 night stay after my wife slipped and fractured her wrist. Jill and her son Oliver were amazing. They arranged to take us to the hospital and Oliver used his excellent translation skills to help us understand what was going on. My wife had an operation and an overnight stay in hospital and upon our return to the hotel Jill and her staff arranged a lovely dinner in our room. I have to say that I would have been lost without Jill and Oliver's help
I could not even suggest any part of the Riad or its staff that could be improved upon. We are looking forward to visting again in the new year

From the moment we entered the riad, we felt as if we had escaped to another world - after long months at work without a break, we needed time to relax and just 'be'. Our room was delightful and the staff was unfailingly helpful, friendly and charming. We particularly loved sitting in front of the lounge fires and taking in the atmosphere of the place, and there are lots of rooms to hide away in if you feel the need. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner in the riad with outstanding food and service, and will miss the lovely home-made scented yoghurt and pastries for breakfast.

Jill and Damian make hosting a fine art (listen to Damian's restaurant recommendations - he knows what he's talking about - Al Fassia was particularly good) and as many others have said, nothing is too much trouble. On Valentine's day, we arrived back to our room to find candles and hearts made from rose petals - a lovely surprise.

We don't often go back to places we've already visited but I'm sure we'll visit this riad again.

Ms. Jill who runs the Hotel is very nice and give a warm personal tuch!
Her assistant Mr. Daniel, knows the best restaurants in Marrakech and he took very special care of us.

I emailed the Riad Noir d'Ivoire to book a hotel. A Lady named Jill replied saying she had reserved us a room and that she would email me a payment form. After a few days the form had not arrived so I phoned and spoke with Jill who explained they had problems with their email and that it would be fixed by the end of the day. A few days later I had still not heard anything so I phoned and again spoke with Jill who said they were still having problems. After a week of this I still had not heard a thing and thought "there is no way that a business like this can cope without email for so long" and started to wander if Jill was hoping to delay me in order to get a longer booking (ours was only for 2 nights). To test this I asked a friend to email the Noir D'Ivoire to ask for availability. He got a reply almost immediately!

As a result I booked with another Riad as I don't want to stay with people who are dishonest and lacking in integrity. If they don't want to take very short bookings (and some Riads don't), then all they had to do was say.

So we never got to find out what the Noir D'voire was like and we never will. For our holiday in Morocco I booked a number of places to stay across the country by email and was treated with respect, integrity and honesty by everyone - and they were all Moroccan's. It's sad that the only person that badly let us down - was English. Shame!
