“Decent riad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2010

Me and my husband stayed in Riad Douzi in April 2009 for 3 nights. It was quiet and clean, staff was pretty polite minus few situations which i chalk up to national idiosyncrasies. Only one member of the staff spoke English, rest were totally Arabic/French only. The place itself is hard to find, locates near the Spice Market. Also not a suitable place to stay if you want to go clubbing or generally spend time outside the riad in the night - it's kind of creepy to come back there later in the night because all the streets are lifeless and dark, souqs are closed down and no more people. I wrote a longer review of Riad Douzi in my travel blog: http://sshiksa.blogspot.com/2010/03/monsieur-sofi-part-3.html

We booked a few weeks in advance and arranged an airport pick up, for fear of getting lost in the souks. Gilles , who ran the Rad met us and led us through the square and souks to find the hotel. We were absolutely delighted! Our room was clean and comfortable, and the Riad itself a delight. We had breakfast on the terrace every morning and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.
Gilles looked up weather forecasts for a trip to Essouria, gave travel advice, showed us a few places to eat nearby, it really felt like hoome from home. Breakfast was served from 8am...we usually got up about 11 or 12....tut tut.

The riad is ideally set in the souks, right next to the Spice square and a great little cafe Le Cafe Espices. It's quite strnage to walk through them at night when its all shut up, and I will admit to being a bit fearful at times, but it was just my jittery cynical London self, everyone was friendly and said good evening.

A real pleasure to stay in, I can't reccomned it highly enough!

I know Marrakech since a long time. This year, I try a new riad called Riad Douzi. It is a reasonably priced riad and is very clean, with comfortable rooms (there is even a suite!!) and a great atmosphere. Prices are very okay (from 45 to 70 euros at this period). The location is great, beetwen Jemaa el Fna and the terrific Spices Square. There is a roof-terrasse for the sun and... the meals. Tajines from Aïcha are just great. The staff is nice, helpfull. The evening and the night it's so peacefull. Thank to Aïcha, Mustapha (the boss) and Gil for a such stay! Go to see their web site : [--]
