“Hidden Gem in the best location of the Medina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2009

This riad is a true gem. A friend (a discriminating world traveler) recommended it, and it turned out to be the best part of my Marrakech visit. The owners – a lovely young French couple, Audrey and Paco – are exceptionally nice and hospitable. They have lived in Marrakech for 7+ yrs and therefore know it well. I got to know them during my week’s stay and benefited hugely from their insider recommendations on where to eat, shop, and visit. Without their tips, my visit would have been much less memorable. Audrey and Paco chat warmly and openly with all the guests, so you feel instantly at home.

They also have excellent taste, and you see that in the way the riad is artfully furnished. Though simple, the décor is elegant, subtle, and true to Moroccan form. The riad has 3 floors plus a rooftop terrace. Each floor of the riad houses several suites plus smaller rooms. I stayed in a suite with beautiful carved doors and curtains, a canopied bed, and large marble bathtub. Breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace where you have a panoramic view of the main mosque and surrounding medina. My favorite part of each morning - freshly squeezed orange juice and perfectly made coffee, with Moroccan pancakes hot off the griddle.

The riad is ideally situated if you want to be in the heart of the Medina. Just a 5 min walk from the main square (Jemaa El Fna) and a stone’s throw from one of the main souk alleys. It’s at the end of Rue Moussaine - by far the nicest street in the Medina. So you are in the ‘best part of town.’ To get to the riad from the main street, you have to walk through several tiny, darkish alleys, which is the norm in the Medina. While this may seem strange to people accustomed to big city hotels, I found it exciting! It gives you a sense of being on an adventure in an exotic locale. When you arrive and pass through the door, you find yourself in an oasis –an open courtyard bathed in streaming sunlight.

This riad is very quiet. The guests – many of whom are European or English couples over 30 - are enjoying a quiet vacation. This is definitely not the place to stay if you plan to talk loudly and party late. Everyone is very considerate and mindful of the other guests. You will have an excellent night’s rest, in complete silence, except for the intermittent prayer calls, which you can’t help but hear wherever you are in Marrakech. Oh, and if you like hearing birds sing, you’ll hear them chirping right outside your door, too.

I happen to be a fairly picky traveler, particularly about cleanliness. This is very good value for what you get. Not very expensive for an excellent location. (I saw a budget hotel right off the Square, which was truly scary as in dirty, and it cost only 20 euros less). Note: this is not a 5 star resort – it’s not meant to provide super luxury. Go to the Aman or Mamounia for that. Instead, it is an intimate, simple boutique hotel (in the U.S., the closest description would be an upscale B&B) where you go for the cozy charm and experience of living the local life.

Because I live in Paris, I go to Marrakesh regularly on holiday. I must have stayed at a half-dozen riads in the Medina. Riad Chraibi offers, by far, the best value for the money.

The location is great: it's in the best part of the Medina, just off the happening Rue Mouassine and two steps from one of the coolest shops/galleries in the city, Il Ministero del Gusto. It's also only about 4 minutes' walk from the main square, Djemma El Fna.

The riad itself is simple but clean and cozy, and Audrey is a very cool and laid-back hostess. The free breakfast--Berber pancakes, orange juice, coffee--on the roof terrace is sublime in the morning.

I now stay here every time I'm in town and recommend it to my friends.

This has to be one of the very best Riad experiences in Marakech. I used the Riad for 6 days when going south to do some filming and returning to it, and then my wife joined me after my trip. Superb accommodation in an elegant and tastefully restored old riad. The souk and square are nearby and there are quite few good local restaurants to choose from within a stone’s throw. Ask Audrey the pretty and elegant French owner to show you to her new local French restaurant that you can see from the riad’s roof, relax in the morning as the sun comes up and have a light breakfast. Very quiet at night, apart from the call to Prayers echoing over the city at dawn. Audrey is the perfect host and can arrange anything you require, taxis, steam room saunas and food, her English is excellent. The riad has a wireless router that you can access and use Skype to call home. The level of cleanliness is high and all the plumbing works well. I will most certainly be going back there again, it’s just the place for a quick executive weekend break. Ask Audrey for Azeddine Taxi and you'll be picked up in a comfy Mercedes (specify it). SuperCool break...and very safe location.

  • Liked — its sheer elegance and peaceful nature completley chilled us out.
  • Disliked — the maze of alleys which were not signposted but you soon learnt them

My daughter and I spent one week in Marrakech where we stayed at the Riad Chraibi - Bruna had already stayed during Easter 07. We loved every minute of our stay; the bedroom was large and comfortable, with a nice hot shower, very good taste in the decoration, average prices, the breakfast on the terrace with delicious home-made pancakes and Catherine, the owner, always attentive, protective, sweet and informative. We could not have chosen a better place ! It is well located in the medina, good restaurants nearby. We highly recommend this riad.

A friend and I stayed one week at Riad Chraîbi in November. For those who like the idea of staying in the middle of the Medina - close to Djemaa el Fna, the souks and other interesting sights, as well as several good restaurants - and still being able to experience peace and quiet, Riad Craîbi is the obvious lodging to choose. We enjoyed every bit of it! We loved the clean, simple and harmonious traditional moroccan interior of the riad, not to mention the lovely roof terrace, where we every morning were able to enjoy our breakfast with a view of the Kotoubia and the other minarets of the Medina. Last, but not least, the including friendliness of the young hosts, Audrey and Paco, contributed to making our stay in their riad an unforgettable experience.

Loved this family owned Riad. I felt at home the minute I walked in. The rooms are all different and sparkling clean. We had the best Morrocan dinner in town cooked by the girls of the Riad. A place to remember and to return to.
