“Just beautiful!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2010

Oh, Dar Vima, what an oasis. Just wonderful. Marie, the French owner was so amazingly helpful (even with my limited French and her limited English). She phoned the airline for me to ask about my flight (ash cloud chaos) and recomfirmed it all for me.
I had 'Ambre's double bedroom' on the ground floor, it wasn't massive but it was just beautiful. The shower was wonderful too!!
Breakfast was 'continental' but not like you would normally get, lots of fresh bread, pastries and fresh Orange juice and coffee, to name just a few items
I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to all my friends!

One thing I would say is, make a note of landmarks the first couple of times you walk to to Djemma al Fna (about 15 mins walk), othewise you WILL get lost. Locals will offer to help you then, without fail , demand money from you. This had nothing to do with the Riad or the area, that's just Marrakech for you!!

Once you have find it, you will find a real little palace behind the doors of this Riad. You are between the locals, but a taxi is a 5 minute walk from the Riad and you will come everywere near the medina for 2 euro's.

This was the first Riad I ever stayed in and I loved everything about it, especially the decor and the incredible quietude. It felt like staying at a friend´s summer house, which we had almost to ourselves as it was off-season. The breakfast was yummy as well, and eventhough Marie does not speak English well, we had a nice connection with her and she is super easy-going. She recommended a wonderful restaurant in a historic riad with life music near by for my birthday where we had an unforgettable dining experience. She made reservations for us and must have told them that it was my birthday because after dinner they came out with a cake and candle and a song for me!
The riad is a bit off the main medina sections but you can take a taxi as close as 5 minutes walking. Just tell the taxi driver "Sidi Ben Slimane". I would stay here again if I came back to Marrakech, which I loved by the way!

Dar Vima is a gem. This lovingly restored old riad offers peace and quiet right in the middle of Marrakech's hectic old centre. Hostess Marie has great suggestions for restaurants, bars, shops and places to see. She has reliable contacts for taxi service, car rental and guided tours.

Marie helped us steer clear of some tourist traps which sounded nice on paper but would definitely not have been fortunate choices. She also pointed us in the direction of a superb spa resort, a couple of miles from the city. It was a place we would never have found without her.

The riad itself is every bit as beautiful as it looks in the pictures, maybe even better. We felt at home right away. Breakfast is perfect, with fresh bread and small pancakes, fresh orange juice (the sweetest ever), and good mint tea and coffee. You will not feel the need to leave early and start your day someplace else.

PRO:
- Great value for money
- City centre, authentic building
- Clean, fresh, comfortable
- Reliable local connections

CON:
- Dark, partly covered alleyway leading up to the riad (no lights during the day, be careful not to trip)
- Not an endless amount of hot water (not a big issue, there was enough for both of us to take a shower)
- As in every riad, the windows open unto the inner courtyard (so mind the volume)

Dar Vima is a beautifully renovated Moroccan house in the heart of the old city. The inkeeper, Marie, is an superlatively experienced and considerate hostess, and her staff is first-rate. Her assistance went very far in helping us acclimate to Morocco and have an unforgettable vacation. I think any riad in the heart of the medina, the old city, is not for the faint of heart, though -- Marrakech is a city of 1.5 million people, and the medina is not the tony district where the hoi polli don't go. On the other hand, if you are adventurous you'll come away with vivid memories and an appreciation for at least a little slice of the "real" Marrakech.
I would also recommend this place more to people with at least a little French. The staff's English is basic. A little French goes a long way, though.
High points: personalized assistance (far beyond "concierge"), contacts with tour guides and drivers, great French breakfasts, decor.
Low point: the riad is 300 meters from the nearest place reachable by car, so after a big day/night you've got a little walking to do before you can relax.

We were a group of 5 friends looking for a typical Riad. We were not disappointed. Riad Dar Vima is good value for money. The rooms are very nicely decorated and very very clean !
The welcome by owner Marie and her 2 Moroccan employees is warm and personalised. At night, we also enjoyed several evening drinks on the rooftop terrasse.
As it is located in a small street of the Medina, you have to walk min. 5 to 10 minutes to get to an area with several restaurants. The restaurant which is very close to the riad is beautiful but too expensive - you pay the location !
The transfer from the airport organised by Marie was very well organised and very convenient. We also asked the same taxi driver to take us to the Atlas mountains for a 1 day excursion which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Overall, a very nice experience and we would definitely recommend Dar Vima.

First stop in Morocco - what would it be like? Small alleys, quite dark at the end and there was the little door into Dar Vima! A lovely courtyard with orange trees and a little pond. Three rooms on the ground floor next to the small kitchen (how could they actually manage to cook such lovely meals there?). Upstairs more rooms of which we had the suite the first two nights. When we decided to stay another not prebooked night, we got one of the downstairs rooms and it was nice to see that they both were elegantly individually furnished and decorated.
Staff was very nice indeed and tried to accomodate our wishes. Lunch on the terrace was lovely and then we were provided with a map of the Medina, so that we'd have a better chance of returning! Before leaving for our next stop, Essaouira, staff helped us get a nice riad there.
