My fiancée and I chose the Riad Carina for its affordable rates and location. The Riad Carina is in a great location within the labyrinth of walls that make the Medina. It’s around the corner from the Palais El Badi and a 10 to 15 minute walk to the main square, Jemaa-el-Fna and the Souks. And if you like a bit of booze on your vacation, the Carina is a few stumbles away from Kozybar, one of the few places where you’ll find alcohol in Marrakech. The hotel is very adorable inside, and it exhibits an exotic feel of North African luxury. However, the main reason I’d recommend this hotel is for its staff. They are amazingly sweet! Marrakech can sometimes be a landmine of individuals trying to trick you out of every dirham they can, so it’s nice to have people who you can trust. The staff took very good care of us in regards to helping us arrange our trip to the Atlas Mountains, scheduling a hamman, figuring out taxi prices, and giving us an overall orientation of Marrakech.
I think the only negative aspect is that it is located in an alley; although, at no point did we feel our safety was endangered when walking through the alley. Yet again, most of Marrakech roads are allies. Moreover, the doors to the individual rooms inside the hotel do not lock (the hotel itself is monitored 24/7). However, the hotel provides a safe for valuables, and as I mentioned above, the staff is exceedingly trustworthy.
