“Forget Mamounia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

Every guide book, guide and taxi driver will tell you about the marvellous Hotel Mamounia. Even Churchill said it was the best hotel he had stayed in. Well he couldn't have been to the Riad Ilayka. The service provided by Nadia and Anna and their wonderful staff could not be bettered. The rooms are beautiful, the service impeccable and the warmth of the welcome overpowering. The only spooky thing was at one point I thought Anna and Nadia might be clairvoyant as they seem to be able to predict ones need and provide it before one had realised one needed it. The only thing that don't understand is "snack" ; ask for one only if you want six bowls of various dips, three flat breads, assorted fried samosas and honey pastries with mint tea.

Room Tip: We had Chambre Gheris which was lovely -but they all are, so don't get worried about which room...

We booked Riad Ilayka after having spent a while looking for a beautiful and characterful riad in the medina. Our experience was incredible. Really friendly staff that couldnt do enough for you from booking a restaurant for us every evening, making suggestions, walking us to the transfer through the alleys, offering to take us around if needed. Breakfast was lovely and the rooms stunning. We booked one of the top rooms (Isilf) which was beautiful with a lovely terrace just for us. There is a fantastic rooftop terrace with gazebo which has views over the rooftops and across to the Atlas Mountains.

We cannot thank Hanan and her team enough for an incredible stay and for making us feel so welcome!

Room Tip: Isilf was a beautiful room and was tucked away from the other rooms a little. Choose rooms on the fi...

A hospitable haven in the heart of Marrakech, superb accommodation, exceptional friendliness and service. Easy accessibility for and guidance in getting to all the main sites. We'd recommend it for our relatives and friends and for all couples or families with young or older children. Hanan and her team could not be bettered. We endorse all the recent reviews by others.

Room Tip: Look at their website.

Fantastic spot to begin our Marrakech adventure. Smooth pickup at airport right to the central square Djemma El Fna. We were meet by Ibrahim who guided us to the Riad. Easy to find in the web of streets in the Medina. Door opened to beautiful courtyard. Great room with fireplace (Islif) on first floor. The manager, Hanaa, was very gracious upon arrival and gave us a quick tour of the riad. Breakfast was delicious. We had made arrangements to meet Hanaa early the next morning in the square as we were continuing on to Essaouira. Hanaa offered to buy the bus tickets on her way home that night and drive us to the the bus station next morn. Ibrahim took us to the square, but Hanaa was delayed. We were put in a cab and driven to the bus station (the riad paid the driver!). Upon arrival, we were informed that only one ticket remained for our bus. Oh No! At that moment, a car speed up to the sidewalk with a person inside waving. It was Hanaa. She had purchased our tickets the night before, and made this incredible effort to get them into our hands. We have never experienced that kind of service in our many travels. A big shout out to Hanaa and Ibrahim for the best introduction to Marrakech and Moroccan hospitality possible. When we return to Marrakech, we will definitely make Riad Ilayka our Medina home.

Room Tip: Islif is beautiful

Who would have thought behind such an unasuming door from a quiet narrow street would lie such a beautiful and traditional Riad. The courtyard is the first thing you see as you enter the riad from the street and it is stunning with a fountain in the centre and the rooms opening into the courtyard on each side over 2 floors. The staff were very helpful and friendly. More than happy to answer any questions. The rooms were traditionally decorated to a very high standard. All this located within a 5 min walk of the main square. Freindly and helpful staff in a beautiful riad. What else could you possibly want?

We made a 1 night reservation at Riad Ilayka for the last night of a trip to Morocco to celebrate my 50th birthday and could not have made a better choice. Riad Ilayka is situated in one of the nicer parts of the Medina just a few minutes walk from Djemaa el Fnaa Square. Hanan and her staff were available to meet us and guide us through the medina and to offer directions and recommendations if required. The rooms are simply beautiful; we chose the Guefait room which is located on the ground floor with a four poster bed and exquisite furnishings. The bathroom with both bath and shower, plentiful hot water and scattered rose petals and quality moroccan products could not have been lovelier. Rooms on the first floor would offer a little more privacy if that is important to you, as other visitors enjoy dinner/breakfast in the patio area outside the Guefait room, but this didn't bother us as we didn't spent a great deal of time in the room and there are shutters if you wish to close them. Breakfast was a feast with a wonderful array of quality food, freshly squeezed orange juice and plentiful tea and coffee. Hanan knew it was my birthday and went out of her way to make our stay extra special and we will always remember her kindness and hospitality. I also enjoyed a hammam at the Riad, the first I have had and it was an experience not to be missed, leaving me feeling glowing and refreshed. We are regular visitors to Marrakech and would not hesitate to recommend Riad Ilayka to fellow travellers who enjoy a higher standard of accommodation and service at an excellent price. What for me sums up Riad Ilayka is that everything is done to a consistently high standard, and that is thanks to Hanan and here wonderful team. We so enjoyed our stay, wish it had been longer and will most definitely return.

Room Tip: First floor rooms offer a little more privacy if that is important to you.

The Riad Ilayka is in a tucked away location in the centre of the Marrakech Medina, it is a haven of peace and tranquility, the staff are brilliant, helpful and friendly. The rooms are as comfy and have a traditional ambience each looking out onto the stunning courtyard. The food was excellent especially the breakfasts and the one evening meal we had in the secluded tented area was plentiful authentic and very tasty. If you want a true feel of the Medina try this fabulous Riad, it was good value and the attentive and honest nature of the staff, Mohammed, Abdul, sweet Lubna the maid and Nadia the owner made our stay in the mad, mad city of Marrakech a real treat.

Room Tip: We chose a room with a shower instead of a bath
