I stayed at Riad Johenna with a two friends in June 2007 and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. I must admit that initially the low price and the hostel classification scared me a bit, but upon arrival that fear quickly turned into happiness. Prior to arrival we arranged for airport pick-up (a good idea as it is located on a hidden side street off the Djemaa el Fna), and Hamid, the riad’s do-it-all man, waited four hours for us in the airport after our flight from Madrid was delayed. The rooms of the riad are a bit small but beautifully decorated with tiles. (I just want to address another review by saying that while we were there the owners were installing locks on each of the rooms so I believe that it is now possible to lock the doors. Personally, the security never bothered me because the front door is very secure.) Each morning we were awakened with freshly baked bread, orange juice and Moroccan mint tea, which we enjoyed on the lovely rooftop terrace. During the day, we explored the city with the guidance of Hamid who recommended restaurants, personally walked us to museums, and even arranged a tour in the Atlas mountains. I really cannot praise the staff of Riad Johenna, especially Hamid, enough. They really made our trip to Marrakech unforgettable. I will definitely recommend Riad Johenna to anyone planning on visiting Marrakech.
