“Staff is extremely friendly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2007

I stayed at Riad Johenna with a two friends in June 2007 and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. I must admit that initially the low price and the hostel classification scared me a bit, but upon arrival that fear quickly turned into happiness. Prior to arrival we arranged for airport pick-up (a good idea as it is located on a hidden side street off the Djemaa el Fna), and Hamid, the riad’s do-it-all man, waited four hours for us in the airport after our flight from Madrid was delayed. The rooms of the riad are a bit small but beautifully decorated with tiles. (I just want to address another review by saying that while we were there the owners were installing locks on each of the rooms so I believe that it is now possible to lock the doors. Personally, the security never bothered me because the front door is very secure.) Each morning we were awakened with freshly baked bread, orange juice and Moroccan mint tea, which we enjoyed on the lovely rooftop terrace. During the day, we explored the city with the guidance of Hamid who recommended restaurants, personally walked us to museums, and even arranged a tour in the Atlas mountains. I really cannot praise the staff of Riad Johenna, especially Hamid, enough. They really made our trip to Marrakech unforgettable. I will definitely recommend Riad Johenna to anyone planning on visiting Marrakech.

We stayed here in October and it was great. The rooms weren't huge but they were fully air conditioned and had a great roof terrace which was a nice way to spend some of the hotter hours. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful although didn't speak much English.
Overall it was a great place and in a great location and i would definatley go back again.

Riad Johenna is a cosy little guesthouse a stone's throw from Marrakesh's crazy and wonderful Jemma El Fna square. It only has three rooms -- one on the ground floor next to the kitchen and two on the first floor, one of which has three beds. The rooms and ensuite bathrooms are nicely decorated in traditional style and there's a lovely roof terrace where you can take breakfast or relax with a cold drink to watch the sunset.
The best thing about the riad is definitely its location. Although you are in the heart of the medina, it's nice and peaceful. If you listen hard you can hear the snake charmer's pipes and the alley outside seemed to be a popular place for the local kids to have a game of football, but at night there was no noise at all.
The only thing that might worry some people was that there were no locks on the doors to the rooms, so you have to trust your fellow travellers won't pop in uninvited while you're out. We didn't see it as a problem, and the front door is prefectly secure. If you were a large group travelling together, I think this would be an excellent place to stay, and you wouldn't have to worry about security if you were occupying the whole riad.
Overall, a great place to stay in Marrakesh and thoroughly recommended.
