Having spent hours trawling through reviews and lists of Riads in Marrakech trying to find ones that were comfortable and reasonably priced, I was lucky enough to come across Dar Baraka. Upon booking a room at the Riad I had some trouble paying via the website, but both by telephone and email I was given help by one of the employees. Communication was efficient and helpful. A great bonus is the airport pick-up offered if you stay a minimum number of nights. This is so helpful as you are then guided to the Riad, which requires a few lefts and rights down some of the side streets. (Having read reviews regarding the Riad being down a dark alley and unsafe to walk to - this is not a negative for Dara Baraka - a majority of the Riads throughout Marrakech are down small streets off of the main roads. They can seem daunting at first but are generally pretty safe as they are in continuous use by tourists and locals day and night. Dar Baraka is very close to a handful of other Riads down the same narrow streets and therefore it is common to cross paths with others on your walk to the main road). There were some locals sitting outside the Riad late at night, however, they were friendly and left us to ourselves.
The Riad is very pretty with the traditional Riad look / feel. The bedrooms are very simply decorated but very clean (the room was cleaned every day and fresh towels provided). Everything was fantastic - the only one criticism that I have is that the pillows were rather uncomfortable. Storage was sufficient, there is a safe in the room, and the bathroom was clean and the shower had sufficient hot water every day. We visited in February, when the nights can become very cool, however, the heating provided in our room was more than sufficient and could also be amended via remote control.
The day staff were great - the gentleman who manages the Riad throughout the day was very helpful. He was always available if we required anything and was quick to help.
They suggested a restaurant that I assume they have a business connection with - Dar Zellij - which we went to one night. A great atmosphere in a Riad about a 10 minute walk away. The food was good, and overally just a great, relaxed atmosphere. One of the staff members from Dar Zellij walk you to and from the restaurant (otherwise you would be unlikely to find it very easily as it is too down some of the narrower streets).
The riad also offers spa treatments such as massage, hammam, facials etc. They are very reasonably priced.
Dar Baraka's location is excellent. It is approximately 10 minutes from the main Square / souks, and also within walking distance of some of the other key areas (we walked to and from the Kasbah and Hivernage districts). It is right next to a main taxi location also which is an added bonus.
Overall, a fantastic Riad that offers beautiful, peaceful surroundings for a great price within the chaos & hustle and bustle of Marrakech. A haven to return to after a day in the souk. Clean, comfortable and friendly accommodation.
We stayed on the first floor - I would request a room on the floor if I came again
