“Absolutely marvellous and well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

A superb riad and perfectly located offering an elegant escape from the busy streets
Positives are for the fantastic suite with an exceptional bathroom, charming staff and nothing was too much trouble. We would advise you to take up the hotel service of being collected at the airport by a prearranged taxi and they will take you on arrival to the Riad by the confusing narrow alleyways. We were met on arrival at the airport and staff met us outside the walls of the souk and then we work personally escorted with our luggage. We also dined in the restaurant on the first night. It was very good food and the service was personal and charming .
We had a cooking course at Riad and it was was a very exciting experience. There were only four of us, all beginners, in the small kitchen which made it a very personal cooking class. We could choose whether to cook a lamb or chicken tagine, similar but different selection of spices and amounts of them. We also cooked a delicious vegetarian starter. The whole process was quite different from what we are used to and we were entirely absorbed throughout. At the end of it the chef advised us that the lunch would be served on the roof terrace dining area and she just needed to finish the dishes with a few final touches.
Enjoying the results of our cooking among the roof terrace plants and tranquillity was the perfect finale to the experience.
Some constructive comment however regarding the arrangements for breakfast. It is a delightful room and of course you can have breakfast if you wish at one of the tables in the open courtyard but whilst the breakfast service whilst immensely charming with really lovely staff, it is slightly haphazard on occasions. Having to go to the kitchen to ask for bread, eggs and coffee pots to be refilled is we appreciate, hardly a great burden but it just needs to be tightened up a little bit. We do stress that this is not a criticism of any great force but we felt we should mention it and noticed that another trip advisor guest has commented on it.
This riad also benefits from really elegant surroundings and staff who are just so willing to help. It has a very relaxing atmosphere and we would recommend it without hesitation. The terraces above onto further levels and are beautifully kept and manicured. It is clear that the owner has planned everything to the very last detail and this in turn is reflected in the great professionalism of the staff. We are sorry that we have not been able to complete this review until now but it has been impossible due to intervening family circumstances.

Room Tip: Probably the best rooms are at first floor level rather than at ground floor although the doors to t...

We had a really good experience staying at The Riad Monceau. The Riad is beautiful and really is a haven from the hustle and bustle of the Medina outside. The staff were all incredibly welcoming and helpful and our rooms were well appointed. However we found the use of a hand held shower quite difficult and resorted to having baths most days. A hook on the wall for the shower would have made all the difference. The Riad provides slippers which are very useful as the floors are tiled but not bathrobes. The provision of bathrobes would have been much appreciated. The Riad is situated very close to Jemaa El Fna (the central square) and is walking distance from all the main sights. We recommend that you use the Riad's transfer service to and from the airport as finding the Riad initially would have been very challenging.
The breakfast provided was good - coffee, tea, orange juice, cornflakes, yogurt, choice of eggs, fruit, bread, croisants and cake. The evening meals are delicious - we ate the set menu one night and it was fantastic. We also highly recommend the cooking school - we loved it and it was also a great way to fill a rainy day so it is worth checking the forecast before booking. The food we made under the guidance of the chef was excellent and we really enjoyed eating it for lunch. All in all we had a very good experience at this Riad and would recommend it as a lreally ovely place to stay while in Marrakech.

Room Tip: The rooms on the ground floor can be slightly noisy as they open onto the main communal area - an u...

How on earth this delightful riad has a ranking of 361 out of 435 hotels in Marrakech is beyond me. What is there not to like? Perfect location close to the Jemaa el Fna square, superb cuisine, the most comfortable of rooms, as well as friendly and courteous staff make this charming and characterful riad the perfect place to stay in Marrakech. A day-trip to the Atlas Mountains arranged for us by the management gave us the perfect opportunity to see a little more of this amazing country.

Overall, we found Le Riad Monceau to be an oasis of calm and comfort close to the hustle and bustle of the city centre and wouldn't hesitate to return.

We stayed for 3 nights and it was well worth the experience. The in-house restaurant was beautiful and the food was excellent, table service was adequate without being overly attentive, all in all well worth the visit, highly recommended. Location could not be better just a short walk to the fascinating squareJemaa el Fenna and the entrance to the Medina and all the souks. We stayed in the Pasha Junior suite and it was in keeping with the rest of this boutique hotel absolutely lovely and very unique, staff were all helpful and would highly recommend this Riad.

Room Tip: Our suite the Pasha was excellent, best to try and avoid the ground floor rooms as they can be noisy...

Stayed there for 5 nights in early February with my husband. A fantastic boutique hotel located right off the Jemaa El Fna square in the medina area, thus close to all the sights and souks.

Heading down a small little alley to the main door we were unsure what to expect, but the door opened into an oasis as unexpected as luxurious and comfortable. Thanks to this special location though Riad Monceau is amidst the hustle and bustle of old Marrakech - and very close to all points of interest - once through the riad door it is delightfully quiet and serene. We already stayed in 5 different hotels in Marrakech during previous trips to Morocco, and this was by far our favorite in terms of price/value especially.

The food at the onsite Moroccan restaurant was great too. Whether you stay there or not, do not miss it: absolutely fantastic! We had several beautiful dinners here by the swimming pool as well as by… the fireplace as we were there in February and these were simply the best we had in Marrakech.

On our last day there, we also participated in a cookery class. It lasted about 3 hours, and we of course ate our own dish afterwards which made it definitely… exotic ! The chef was really friendly and the whole experience was great fun.

We highly recommend this gem of a hotel.

Room Tip: We had the Marjan room and it was great

So glad i chose this Riad for our stay. My partner and I stayed Monday to Friday last week and loved every minute. The Riad itself is absolutely beautiful and i can't find one thing to criticise. We had a lovely room the Sheherazade, with a good en suite. Lots of cupboard space, beautiful decoration, good bed! The staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We had an evening meal there twice during our stay and both times thought the food excellent. The first night we ate in the courtyard by the ornamental pool, a patio heater provided as it was a little chilly. The second time we ate inside the restaurant at a lovely table by a log fire, and really enjoyed the atmosphere. We booked a day trip to the coast using the riad's services and it was briliant, with a great driver/guide, and very flexible. I would say the location of the Riad cannot be bettered, so near to the main square and yet tranquil and hidden away. I would recommend this Riad to anyone visiting Marrakech and am seriously thinking of returning next year for a mother-son getaway to celebrate my son's 18th.

I have mixed feelings on this one - We stayed here just 1 night, our last one, and we may have liked this more at the start of our trip - but found this riad fairly impersonal compared to others we stayed in/ex. breakfast was self serve with uncleared tables all around and staff absent/our fridge was very loud and we were told this was normal/no one said hi how was your day when you walked by reception, etc/no welcome map or tour of the riad (or even breakfast info) when we arrived. It has a great location right off the square, and the common space is beautiful and wonderful to escape to after hassling in the market (there is a top floor terrace with shade and sun and lots of nice seating). The room was clean and comfortable but basic - at night, the restaurant spills out into the pool area abutting the rooms, so there is noise and smoking. The bathroom handheld shower did not have a wall mount (be prepared for baths). So, this is an ok place to stay/pros being the location and facilities - but, it did not have the warmth and friendliness that characterizes Moroccan riads.
