“Kind of hotel self service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012 via mobile

The only good point is the garden and private swimming pool for each villa of 8 rooms. Else is overall bad: terrible service, absence of staff, poor breakfast buffet, latency of staff, weakness in building maintenance.

My wife and I came to Marrakech for our anniversary and decided to stay at the Murano. We were a little sceptical about the place, but the minute we arrived in Marrakech, we were glad we chose this hotel. We landed at the airport, came out of the terminal and there was our driver, we didn't need to wait or call the hotel to ask where the driver was, and he was very friendly. Then we got to the hotel, from the outside it looked very authentic, once we got inside, we were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and comfort of the place.

Slim introduced himself to us and made a fuss over us, which made us feel very welcome. He took us up to the room and showed us around and explained everything to us. Now the room, what can I say??? Absolutely stunning, very spacious, the decor, the beds, the bathroom, clean, even had a choice of having a bath or shower, everything was perfect (the only issue we had was some ants crawling around in the night), but that didn't spoil our time at the hotel.

The staff were amazing and catered to our every whim. They were very friendly, caring, got us what ever we wanted, the guys who worked at the bar in the evening were accommodating and the service was second to none. We were recommended a couple of restaurants by the lady who worked on the reception in the evenings (sorry I can't remember her name) but the 2 restaurants that she recommended were spot on, food was lovely and the prices were just right. They certainly know their stuff when it comes to eating out.

They arranged also arranged a day trip for us to Orika in the mountains, and when we got back the staff were very interested in what we thought about the place and seemed genuinely interested in our trip.

One thing we loved about this place was the peace and quite late at night, we just chilled on the balcony at around midnight with our drinks and we loved it....

When the day came to leave my wife and I were a little upset to be going home, this place felt like a home away from home, and the staff looked just as sad as we did to be going....

The only downside to the hotel is that it didn't have a gym, but thats a very minor downside.

Just to highlight how good this hotel is, we missed our flight home, so I wanted to go back to the Murano, but instead we chose a hotel closer to the airport (the Eden Andelou Spa & Resort) and that hotel was a sh1thole (and that's me being polite), when we got there was had to change rooms 3 times, in the end I was willing to take a hit on the money we paid for the Eden and go back to the Murano, unfortunately we stayed at the Eden.

But if we go back to Marrakech, i'm not staying anywhere apart from the Murano. DON'T STAY ANYWHERE ELSE!!!

Room Tip: Try not to get the room with a balcony facing West, as the sun is at its strongest in the late after...

We spent the day at Murano Resort after being recommended by a friend. The hotel and grounds were beautiful and the staff incredibly attentive. For such a beautiful hotel the prices were very reasonable as well. They had a live DJ in the middle of the pool playing chill out music and we ate a BBQ lunch which was really great as well! The hotel even provided sun hats as there weren't any umbrellas. There were lots of tables with outside sofas dotted around the grounds to offer shade from the heat.

It's not far from the central medina of Marrakech, about a 10minute drive and having stayed in the centre of the city, I would definitely recommend staying at Murano Resort and getting a local taxi into town rather than staying in the centre.

I was worried that this hotel would not live up to my expectations - it looked so amazing in the photo's and I couldn't believe it would really be that nice - It was!

The room was spacious and comfortable and very clean, the bed was very very comfortable and I slept soundly every night. The bathroom was spacious, well equipped with everything you could wish for from hairdryer to bottled water to rinse your teeth. There was a choice of a very comfortable bath or a spacious shower with ample, fast running hot water.

The dressing room had plenty of hanging and cupboard space and had a large safe for valuables too.

The food was very good and reasonably priced and the hotel staff were without exception the most well mannered, pleasant, cheerful, helpful people you could wish to meet. Malika, Slim and Pierre in particular went out of their way to help and their personal recommendations for
restaurants and bars were perfect!

We would love to stay again in the future :-)

Room Tip: Ground floor Large Junior Suite is amazing - doors open straight out onto private terrace and Villa...

The Murano Resort offered one of the best, all-round hotel experiences I have encountered. From the moment we stepped through the door we were looked after by a warm and friendly team of staff, who went out of their way to ensure we had a lovely time.

The instant we walked in we were greeted by a glamorous poolside area, where the sunloungers were so big and spaced to such a degree that you never felt that you were on top of the people next to you. Even when the pool was busy at the fantastic Sunday brunch, you didn't have to listen to other groups' conversations. The layout of the resort was also great with individual pools for each Riad allowing you to have a more private lay out if you so desired.

The mix of traditional and modern elements really gave the resort a unique feel and being upgraded to even larger suites made us all the more impressed.

It was potentially designed for quite a young crowd, with tunes around the poolside giving it a laidback Ibizan feel, but the staff were ready to accommodate everyone from families to couples to groups.

It isn't the closest hotel to the centre of Marrakech, but with vehicles onsite you can head down to the Medina whenever you would like and doesn't take very long to get there.

I will definitely be recommending this resort to my friends and family and so wanted to recommend it here as well.

Contrary to what I read earlier, this concept has its own place in Marrakech in my eyes. This is also a major attraction of this city in which the purest tradition with modernity spawns creativity. At Murano, specifically, we have both.

The Hotel:

The place is immediately likable. It consists of a main building in which there is the reception, the dining room, living room ... and 3 or 4 other outbuildings each with a swimming pool. Another building, located at the bottom is - or will be- reserved for a spa, "which will open soon," it seems. In the meantime, if you need a massage in the humidity of a steam room (hammam ), across the street is "Les Deux Tours", a sumptuous hotel has a spa. It's nice, nothing more. Between the main building and outbuildings you’ll find the famous red pool around which everyone meets, locals as well as guests. It is true that the pool is prettier at night illuminated rather than during the day but in both cases, it is truly impressive.

The Clientele:

Difficult to describe. Given the concept could have imagined the hotel crawling with "DINKs", but actually not so. There were several families with small children, but as I said, nothing very dominant, at least at the time we went there (the May 1st holiday). Furthermore, the hotel is currently undergoing some rehabilitation, so it offers a lot of specials, which may distort the usual customer profile. To be continued ...

The Location:

The Murano is located in the Palmeraie (a kind of suburb of Marrakech) making it a place in the hustle and bustle of the city, but requires you to take a hotel organized shuttle to the center of town. Count about 15 minutes per trip and 10 € the trip (ie € 20 round trip). This is not very inconvenient to use, we had to wait for the shuttle once. But we understood, the Murano is more suitable for people who want to relax while being able to still go for a ride into town if they wish, not to go for a drink at a terrace of Marrakech on a whim. The gardens are exquisite and very well maintained. Roses abound everywhere along with the local palms and assorted other flora.

The Welcome:

Like everyone else, we were particularly sensitive to the reception of clients, both by the staff as well as the management (a place where the Hotel director regularly asks guests if they are happy is pretty rare and to be noted!). Your every desire is fulfilled with kindness and a smile (a special mention for the famous Slim that makes you feel like family after only 10 minutes on arrival!), In short, we really felt that they were happy to have you among them (and I'm from Paris, so I am familiar with unpleasant service!).

The Food:

Very satisfactory, it varies depending on time of day:

The Breakfast buffet is really good and varied and plentiful. The staff is very helpful again, even if you arrive a little late ;-). We missed the local time change and showed up 1 hour after breakfast was finished. They didn’t hesitate one second to bring out plates of food for us to enjoy and not miss out on breakfast.

The Lunch menu is very "trendy" club sandwiches, calamari and wasabi sauce ... "localized": hamburger lamb tagines ... We did not test everything, but all that we had was very good and plentiful.

Dinner is chosen from a board. This is very good, but the choice is fairly limited (and changes little over a week). Particularly, the service was infinitely slowly (1 hour and half for two dishes on the first night, 45 minutes for the first dish on another day during the week. So we avoided eating there, even if we repeat, it was exceptionally good. The price was close to Paris prices: € 29 for starters / main course / dessert, without drinks.

And finally some tips:

- The Wi-Fi is good in the lobby area, but pretty sparse elsewhere. However, thank God it’s free in 2012! If you need a real connection, take a RJ45 cable (it gets technical!) and a pocket router. In our room it worked well when the office doesn’t stop working.

- The line "tips" shown at the bottom of the bills may not be the best way to recognize good service. If you have a meal or a drink around the pool, a tip added to the bill (according to two staff members) is not necessarily shared with them. Give them cash directly, if you want to thank them.

- There is a Nespresso machine in the room, but bring your own capsules. They are charged at €3 apiece as part of the mini-bar, about 10 times the price you'll pay in Europe. Curiously there are no Kleenex tissues in the rooms. Bring your own if you want to avoid the toilet paper!

- Avoid the standard rooms and opt for their Junior Suites because the former are quite small and are equipped with smaller beds. Trust me; it will be worth the price. Choose a suite on the ground floor if you can, then you walk right out to your “personal" swimming pool and garden.

- The shuttle from the hotel has a fixed price- so no need to to negotiate. But if you go into the Medina you will either need to call the hotel to pick you up or return with a taxi. Frankly, the taxi is easy to get on the spot and they all know the hotel. Taxis are also fully aware of the price (between 80 and 100 Dirhams, but that does not stop them to ask you for 150 or 200! Smile politely with an air of someone who does this regularly and say, "No, 80 Dirhams!" You’ll probably end up paying 100, but then everybody wins.

Enjoy!

Room Tip: - Avoid the standard rooms and opt for their Junior Suites because the former are quite small and ar...
