“Laid-back haven with a fun friendly vibe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

This place really does have a pretty unique atmosphere (as referenced in the heading) which has everything to do with the people who work there … truly charming, helpful, down-to-earth folk. In fairness, everything they promise on their website is what you get so believe the hype, so to speak!

The food is really great - far better in fact than the fare offered at many of the overpriced ‘tourist trap’ restaurants around the medina. I would recommend dining there before heading out for a night-time stroll around the buzzing square, or indeed after a day touring the city or its surrounds. (Dar Najat organise tours too … all part of the service!).

It’s also really nice to be able to relax with a cold beer on the terrace and enjoy the mellow in-house music, feet dangling in the cooling Jacuzzi before, or after, a foray into the (endearing and intoxicating) madness of the Marrakesh Medina.

To summarise, a beautiful place run by genuinely kind and obliging people who cannot do enough to help make your time in Marrakesh as enjoyable, pleasant and stress-free as imaginable.

This riad was a truly pleasant experience. The staff picked us up at the airport, upon our arrival we were served fresh mint tea on the roof terrace and could listen to pleasant music in the background.. the owner said there was no rush for breakfast in the morning because he didn't like the philosophy of having to choose between "sleeping or eating" - what a relief!
Breakfast was very nice with freshly made kinds of pancakes.
In the evening, a guide from the hotel walked us through the narrow streets of Marrakech to a marvellous restaurant with roof terrace.
Also the riad itself is furnished and decorated incredibly tasteful with attention to detail. Together with the warm and friendly characters of the staff, this place contributed to a special stay in Marrakech. The only weak point which was a bit annoying - the owner continued to ask us several times afterwards via email for a review - which we would have given anyway!

Marrakech is a place where you really need to be on your guard from the money hungry locals. I was very pleased and refreshed by the hospitality and friendliness of the staff at Dar Najat. I was a little worried having a long midnight flight after a full day of sightseeing in Marrakech, but they staff let me checkout at 22:30 after a shower and a free meal since I had run out of Dirhams! Definitely recommend this as the place to stay in Marrakech!

If you are looking for a warm welcome, attentive staff and good advice then this is the place! The Riad offered us free transfers to and from the airport and it was a welcome relief to be collected from the airport in an air conditioned taxi! On arrival the Riad was cool, well decorated and more beautiful than the pictures we had seen. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful (language permitting), they even provided us with a mobile phone and personally walked us through the medina which was a great help the first time out as the winding streets and thousands of mopeds can be more than a little daunting at first.

The food was great, from the varied and delicious breakfasts to the great tagines and Californian salads that could be prepared on request. One huge advantage here is that the Riad offers free soft drinks all the time which made a huge difference to us when it was 46 degrees. The room was on the ground floor (generally cooler) yet air conditioning worked really well too. Bathroom was basic but clean. There is a plunge pool which is small and clean but perfectly adequate for simply cooling down.

Having seen some other comments about the lack of security, we did not think this was a problem. There are always staff around the Riad and we were provided with a padlock to secure our room.

Oliver, the owner, may be slightly eccentric but clearly cares a great deal about ensuring tourists enjoy their experience in Morroco as a whole rather than simply in his Riads. It seems that he ensures he is on hand when his guests arrive and is full of essential tips, recommendations and guidance. Our advice is to "use him", in the nicest possible way! Our trip would not have been the same or gone so smoothly without his help and advice!

The biggest compliment we can pay is that we would return to this Riad in the future!

Riad Dar Najat is an excelent Riad where everybody is taking care that we had the best time in Marrakesh.
We had a marvelous late breakfast, IPod speakers on the room, and a guide taking us to the restaurant we have previously booked in the twisty streets on Marrakesh.
Another mark is the excelent music playing all day in common areas, as well as the warm treatment of all staff.
Finally, this is one of the few Riads with twin rooms ... exactly what we were looking for, a group of 4 going for motocross in the dunes in the following days.

Trully recommendable :-)

Riad Dar Najat and the Dar Najat Kitchen were a beautiful oasis for us. My sister and I often travel together and although we've seen many countries Marrakesh, Morocco was one of the most exotic. We also cannot speak French or Arabic so it was very challenging to get around. Oliver (the owner) and his wonderful friendly and welcoming staff served as the home base we needed during this exciting adventure. Oliver is an honest source of knowledge about Marrakesh and it's surroundings. He helped us to negotiate through excursions, bartering, language barriers, the Medina (which is harder than you might think), customs, food, and anything else we came across that we had a question about. The staff was also always there to help. Upon our arrival we were picked up at the airport and one friendly staff member introduced us to the Riad Dar Najat; the next day another staff member accompanied us to help us to navigate the Medina; and later in our trip another helped us with our bartering techniques. Even a cell phone was provided upon arrival to serve as an alarm clock because being on vacation I had left mine behind, but didn't want to miss a thing.

Food at Dar Najat kitchen was fantastic. Breakfast is provided with the room and it was excellent and filling - fresh orange juice, jellies, variety of breads, eggs - always good. Not to mention free juice, sodas, and water all day. The evening dinners were unbelievably delicious - a variety of tagines (which are traditional Moroccan dishes) with absolutely wonderful veggie appetizers that would make your mouth water. Also you have no fear of getting stomach upset which could be a concern if dining at some of the outside eateries.

The Riad itself is beautifully accoutered. Many of the staff (including Oliver) are artists and have created the pieces that decorate the space. The entire Riad setting is beautiful, comfortable, and inviting. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing and the music sometimes played in the upstairs lounge and dining area is never intrusive but great music from all over the world (a little birdie told us Oliver was once a D.J.)

The Riad Dar Najat and the Dar Najat Kitchen deserve superb ratings for many reasons and is definitely worthy of a stay when you get to Marrakesh!

From being picked up from the airport and having our bags taken to the car we were made to feel special. Upon arrival to the Riad we were a little nervous when we appeared to be in the middle of nowhere exactly! Then two smiling faces came out to take our bags, give us a warm welcome and lead us down an alley... This is standard for Morocco so don't panic! We were led into a beautifully laid out Riad with roof terraces, great decoration and a well appointed and clean room. A hot tub on the first open floor is a great way to unwind and relax. And relaxing is what Dar Najat is about, nothing is too much trouble for the staff here, friendly, funny and helpful - we really didn't want to leave. Food is excellent, and well worth trying. Breakfast is just perfect and included as is the wi-fi (3G isn't about in Morocco so check your emails and Facebook at the Riad!) and chilling in the peaceful surrounds of the roof terrace having a laugh and a cold drink with the staff is brilliant.

We were told that "this was our home" and it felt like it - nothing was too much trouble, from advising us on shopping, to arranging a driver and even finding us a few beers in the middle of the day during Ramadan (surely not easy!). The room was clean, housekeeping was spot on and daily and all the staff were exceptional. They even walked us to a few spots around town to help us get orientated and we were certainly gutted that our short stay came to an end. Would we go back - one million per cent yes, I can't think of anywhere else in Marrakech I would even think about.

Marrakech itself wasn't quite as expected, although it was 40+ degrees and Ramadan so a bit quieter than usual. There are some parks, museums and palaces to see but really this place is about the souks, market and watching the world pass by. The souk can be over powering and getting lost is far too easy, and everyone has advice or knows the best way to the main square, always via their stall... Being able to say no and move on is a skill, but with narrow streets it is easy to get lost and hard to navigate so beware, and Google maps won't help! The square at night is bustling with life, and police as well as undercover police so don't panic, you are safe - any trouble just say "police" loudly and people back off as tourists are the lifeblood and the police will protect the revenue...

Our trip was for 3 nights and a total pleasure... Two final tips... 1: on the way home you can't take more than 1000 dirhams out of the country and the duty free store after passport control does NOT take dirhams (!!!) and 2: stay at Dar Najat - you will not regret it!
