“We loved Riad Dar Najat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2011

We booked this riad after reading all the reviews on Tripadvisor, we booked directly on their website. From the start, the communication we received from the owner was fantastic, he answered all of our questions promptly.

The riad itself is based in the Old Medina of Marrakech. It is ideally situated at around a 5 minute walk away from the main square and the famous souks of Marrakech.

The staff at the riad are its best asset, they were all so positive and nothing was too much for them, whenever we asked for anything, they just got on with it and did it for us. They all spoke good English.

Our room was lovely, it had a massive double bed and nice artwork all around. The aircon was working well and kept the room at the right temperature. The bathroom was really nice, it had all the usual complimentary toiletries and really soft towels. The bed was just right for us and we had 4 nights of really good sleep.

The owner Oliver was a really nice guy, he helped us organise a trip to Essaouria, where we spent 3 nights at his newly opened riad (Riad Bab Essaouria). He also helped us organise a daytrip into the Atlas Mountains.

The food at this riad was something else, the breakfast was everything one could ask for, fresh pancakes, breads, omelettes, waffles, pastries, freshly squeezed orange juice, tea or coffee. The evening meal was one of the best we had on our weeks stay in Morocco, it was a lamb tagine, cooked to perfection.

There was a large jacuzzi on one of the terraces and plenty of sunloungers for topping our tan. There was a nice mix of guests at the riad from all over the world including the USA, UK, Spain and France. We got chatting to them on most evenings and felt really good exchanging stories and adventures we had the daytime.

There was free WIFI throughout the riad, it was very fast and helped us surf the internet and check our emails, we had our own laptop with us but if you don't have your own then the riad will let you use one of their computers.

We can see how this riad has built up such a good reputation, it has everything going for it and we would highly recommend it for a stay in Marrakech.

This was my 3rd visit to Marrakech and I have previously stayed in lower rated accommodation but as we were staying for 4 nights we decided to pay a little more and I saw the reviews of Dar najat on Tripadvisor - all the previous reviewers were very complimentary and they were very right - this is definitely a great place to stay.
Most importantly is the friendly welcome you get from Olivier a French men who own and run the place. He is really friendly and helpful and has some great staff working With him . It really was a happy place to stay, which is nice.
Rooms - the Riad has 7 rooms and we had one of their smaller rooms with ensuite facilities but it was very tastefully decorated, it had hanging space and the bathroom always had hot water. We didn't spend much time in the room because the Riad has a lovely shaded terrace and lots of other areas where you can just chill out and get away from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.
Location - it is just 5 mn from the Cafe de France in the main square Jama l fnaa so is perfectly located although it does take a little time to find the first time as the Medina is full of alleyways but after first time we had no problems finding it again.
Help & Advice - although we had previously visited Marrakech we got some great advice and recommendations from Olivier of places to eat and visit. All his suggestions were spot on. We also got him to organise a private excursion to the Ourika Valley which was very good. We could have done it cheaper by joining a group mini bus excursion but the driver Christophe arranged spoke great english and was very friendly and made it a great trip - many thanks to Adou our driver & guide for a great day.
Marrakech is either a place you love or hate - like most places in the Muslim world you get woken early by the call to prayer and some of the streets in the old city are dirty and grubby and you always get people trying to sell you stuff in the souks but Marrakech is a magical place and when we go back again we will be staying at Dar najat as it is a very welcoming and friendly place –

We stayed at Dar Najat between 26 May – 31 May for the bank holiday.
It definitely lives up to its reputation as the coolest Riad in Marrakech.

From the minute we arrived there was a permanent smile on our face.

The staff are a rarity – they will do anything for you including take you to somewhere so that you don’t get lost such as the main square for the first time, or if you are having a massage, they will book it for you and then take you there and pick you up as so many of these places are within a ‘maze’ of streets that without a doubt you would take a wrong turn and get lost. They don’t accept tips so it’s up to you to leave something extra at the end of your stay.

Oliver, the owner, is superb, always in a good mood and treats everyone as if you are life long friends. There is a real family environment there, everything is chilled out yet perfect. The décor is typically Moroccan – lots of colour and vibrance – beautiful. We found ourselves chilling out on the terrace most evenings, with a beer or a bottle of wine, listening to the music they play – followed by typical mint tea (a lot of sugar!).

The daily breakfast is a great start to the day – especially if you are finding you are not too keen on Moroccan cuisine as we found – filling up on pain au chocolats, fruit, and omelettes in the morning was a necessity. The freshly squeezed OJ is amazing too, and a better bet than the stuff you get from the main square which apparently is watered down to make more profit.

Our favourite trip of the holiday was to the Atlas Mountains. Oliver will book a tour guide for you so you don’t need to do anything, just enjoy 

We couldn’t recommend Dar Najat enough. Great value for money, great service and a real home from home.

Beautiful riad in excellent location-close to the action (easy 5 minute walk) but far enough to be peaceful. Amin could not have been more accomodating- met us in the teeming rain for the walk (run) to the place, luggage in tow. After our 12 hour drive from the desert & a week of tagine & couscous, I pleadingly asked about a pizza. He picked one up & delivered it to our room at no extra charge. Who does THAT?!

The whole experience was perfect, so cool and hip and exceeded all our expectations. The food was fantastic (the lamb tagine out of this world! ) The staff were professional, friendly and helpful and the rooms were beautifully decorated, the detail in the rooms outstanding.. Everything was immaculately clean. We arrived and were immediately given a warm and genuine welcome to the City. We will definitely be back . Oliver made us feel like we were old friends. I loved it! If you go to Marrakesh and you can stay at The Riad Dar Najat - do! One of the most beautiful gems in Marrakesh! Trip to Essouira for a few days definitely worth it if you have the time.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the best rooms
