“Heavenly Riad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2014

On our first trip to Marrakech, we happened upon this stunning Riad. All the positive reviews on Trip Advisor are spot on. Lovely hotel - staff are immense - nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are great - luxurious and glamorous. Location is marvellous - just a short walk from all the main sights, and just around the corner from some alcohol(in a largely dry country). Amazing roof terrace. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Thankyou to Jean and all the staff.

Room Tip: Mirage room has a beautiful bathroom.

We have just come home from a weekend in Marrakech and stayed at Dar One, we were blown away with how beautiful it was!
From the minute we arrived the service was absolutely fantastic, Jean the owner and his staff were sooooo lovely and helpful!
We were cooked an amazing meal on the roof terrace on Friday night by the in house chef… the food was absolutely devine!
I will definitely be returning again at some point this year!! A MUST!!!!!

Welcoming, peaceful, calm, our oasis in the city.

That's what Riad Dar One is. Jean and his staff are great in making us our stay memorable. We stayed in the spacious Dune Room with the matching spacious and generous bathroom. Continental breakfast on the roof deck is a treat. Just a couple of things for improvement:

1. WiFi connection in the room was a bit spotty.
2. Though there is TV in the common living area, wish we had one in our room.

Other than that, our stay was perfect.

We had a wonderful time in Marrakech in this amazing, beautiful Riad.
Located in the Mellah- the jewish part of Marrakech, central to all sight seeing places, it is like a oasis: Calm, stylish, arriving home! Jean and his crew are marvelous, always looking after you, great service, thank you. Not to forget the nice smell of the house - les sens de Marrakech: Fleur de cactus :) If you are interested in having a sight seeing tour of the Ourika tales we can recommend a great guide: Hassan Khaziz-Elhoussain - khaz.ourika@gmail.com
Again A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU ALL

I've been traveling to Morocco for several years now and have stayed in many riads. Dar One is absolutely among the top. The service is excellent and the place is kept impeccably clean. Th staff are wonderful and the riad itself is gorgeous. Its beautiful understated and classy decor is a welcome change from the sometimes overdone riads I've seen. One of the highlights is definitely the food! Be sure to have at least one evening meal there! Jean Perres, the owner, is very attentive and helpful. No detail has been overlooked. I would happily stay there again.

Other than it being literally impossible to reach if you are driving. This hotel is a gem! their best asset is their service and of course the hotel itself has a lot of character and it's a very peaceful oasis, that you will specially value while visiting Marrakesh. Oh they could improve their WIFI coverage to reach all rooms with a strong signal.

Room Tip: They are all good... but I hear some have a full shower and we didn't we only had a hand held sh...

Riad Dar One is many of the things the reviews below provide but there are other things I want to cover as well. Unfortunately we did not have the pleasure of meeting Jean Perres. His staff however were very friendly and were helpful. There was always someone in the riad so I assume if you had any issues they would be there to help (we didn't have any issues).

The room itself was very well maintained. It was clean and the bathroom was huge. It was definitely a quiet place in a central location just a short walk from the main square. The rooms themselves, although they had thick walls, were not very private. The entrance was clear glass with a curtain that you could pull and as far as noise, you could hear from the rooms around you conversation. The bed was SUPER comfortable. For a good nights sleep this is definitely the place to stay.

On the negative side, I felt that the riad was overpriced. The organized tours/activities were up to 4x the price of what you paid if you booked elsewhere. That was a shame as it would be much more convenient to book where you are staying.

We did book the cooking class with the Riad and that was a HUGE disappointment. We were met in the lobby and brought to a local spice shop, as expected they wanted us to buy something so that was not out of the ordinary, but the prices they were charging were not 3x an acceptable price they were 10x! As a tourist I am happy to pay more than locals but not when someone is having a laugh. (As an example for small bag of spice mix they were asking 17euros) We then proceeded to a local market where we were left standing around for 1.5 hours while the woman did some shopping, completely ignoring us, except for 1x asking if we had any allergies. I made it clear I was interested in what she was buying by trying to ask questions and engage her in conversation but she was not having it. We drove a short ride to the cooking school which was on a beautiful setting in a beautiful home. The 'class' itself involved us chopping and peeling lots of vegetables. There was minimal, if any, sharing of what we were cooking, how or why. I asked plenty of questions as I wanted to learn, it being a cooking class and all. The 'funniest' bit of all was that we prepared all the 'hot' side dishes when we arrived and THEN only started to prepare and cook the chicken. So there was at least an hour sitting around waiting for the chicken to cook and by then the rest of the food was cold. I could go on with my disappointment in this experience but I think you get the idea. For 50euros a person I think this was a complete rip off.

The riad's terrace was a lovely place to relax after a long day or to enjoy some sunshine in the morning with breakfast.

Overall the riad is what everyone says it is: it was clean, well maintained with good staff and in a good location. However for the price and the offerings it is not the best value for money.

Room Tip: Although each room was different all seemed to have one main feature so I don't think you could...

We're first of all very pleased those guests enjoyed all Dar One provided to make their stay as nice as possible.
Service, comfort, location were at the level expected witch is the most important for us.
We're a little surprised however about the second part of the comment about excursions and cooking class witch are external services offered to our guests.
For the excursions we propose, for more than 8 years, tours around Marrakech, to the Atlas mountains or to Essaouira by the ocean.
Those tours are individual ones organized with private shuttle, english speaking drivers providing informations and tips to our guests.
Of course it's also possible to find excursions with groups in bad cars without air conditioning witch is much cheaper.
We prefer to offer the best even it cost (witch is normal) a little more.
For the cooking class what could we say...
Many comments on Tripadvisor confirm it was, for many guests, the BEST day of their stay.
For those specific guests it was not and we're feeling sorry if they didn't enjoy it.
However we refuse to admit they have been ripped off by the spices shops. Our famous cook Amina never ask guests to buy spices and if they do it it's their own responsability.
It's a pity all went wrong just because all seemed to be too expensive for those guests...
We hope they'll keep however nice memories from their stay at Dar One in witch they enjoyed bed, quiet atmosphere, service, terrace and comfort.
