“Beautiful santcuary close to the chaos and excitement of Marrakech”

The riad is beautiful with lovely areas to sit and relax. Pierre and his staff were welcoming, without being intrusive, and very helpful with booking restaurants, trips, airport transfer etc. We only had lunch in the riad, but it was very good and reasonably priced. Our room was very attractive and spacious. This riad looked good in the photos: upon arrival, it far exceeded my expectations. I would give it the highest recommendation.

Once you step inside the Riad you feel very much at home. You’re welcomed by the genuine friendly owner and his Moroccan personnel. Checking in you don’t fill out forms but are invited to drink tea instead.
You soon find your way through the narrow streets that lead to the Riad meanwhile discovering the way the real habitats from Marakkech spend their day and surely the children playing in the streets will help you find you way back if you’re lost. (Reward them with some small change)
The homely feel of the Riad with it’s beautiful interior will be heaven after spending your day on the busy squares and streets of the town.
Once you have been there, you want to come back.

From my first contact with the Riad Alma, I was impressed with their customer service. My husband and I and our friends had a last minute change in plans, and when we called to see if it was possible to move our reservation to a different night, the Riad rebooked us with no hassle at all (lucky for us, they had two rooms available!).

The house was absolutely beautiful - a real oasis in the middle of a city that is bustling and hot. The staff was courteous and accommodating. Our friends had brought their baby along, and the staff went out of their way to ensure that they were comfortable.

Both of our rooms were spacious, clean, cool, and very comfortable. The common rooms were also beautifully decorated. When we arrived, the staff served us hot mint tea in our room, and we were also given a free bottle of water. That evening, the electricity went out, and the staff immediately came in and placed lit candles all over our room.

We checked out the next day, but our train did not leave Marrakech until 7pm, so the riad graciously held our bags at no charge until we were ready to take them.

My only complaint is that the food is overpriced. We paid a total of $100 for two sandwiches and four drinks. Yikes!

However, the comfort of the rooms, the excellent customer service, and convenience of the hotel's location more than make up for the extra expense. I would definitely recommend the Riad Alma to anyone going to Marrakech!

I booked to stay at Riad Alma as a surprise 40th Birthday present for my partner. We were both pretty tired and in need of a complete break, our stay with Marcheline and Pierre did not disappoint! The riad offers complete relaxation and tranquility, a place to really unwind and relax!
Marrakech is slightly bonkers although fantastic fun, however you do need Riad Alma to retreat back to!
Book it, you will not be disappointed!!

Highly recommend Riad Alma - we were delighted to return again after our first visit in Dec 2007. This fabulous riad is an oasis of tranquility in the wonderful craziness that is Marrakesh. The atmosphere is completely relaxed and we felt like welcomed guests at owners Pierre & Micheline's home. We think it is about the most stylish place we have stayed - makes you rush out to the souks to try to recreate the look at home (if only!)

We found the location of the riad ideal: close enough to the main square and souks (15 mins walk) for easy access, but far enough away to feel a bit more secluded from the main throngs of tourists around there. Rue de la Kasbah (the nearest 'main' street) probably hasn't changed in hundreds of years, and the kids walking to school and playing in the alleys in the evenings made the area feel very unspoilt and pleasant. We felt completely safe at all times.

Pick up some oranges or dates or cashews along the rue de la Kasbah, or the souks, then head back to the riad to enjoy with some mint tea on your terrace, or beside the pool. Or curl up in front of one of the log fires with a good book. The atmosphere is completely relaxed, you can just chill out all day/night.

Breakfast is delicious and filling, but the real treat that we discovered on this visit is dining in the riad - highly recommended, you won't eat a better meal in an expensive restaurant. We found the staff friendly, helpful and polite at all times.

This trip we also enjoyed a fantastic excursion to the Cascades d'Ouzoud. 5 hours travelling, but worth it for the amazing scenery en route, the waterfalls and berber restaurant for lunch. Also recommend Keshmara in Gueliz for lunch on the terrace.

Once again, we have enjoyed a wonderful week in Marrakesh at Riad Alma - we look forward to returning again. Highly recommended.

We went to Marrakech to celebrate my Mum's 75th birthday (5 adults) and stayed at Riad Alma upon the recommendation of a friend. We could not have been made more welcome by Pierre & the staff. On the birthday morning, they even allowed us to decorate the breakfast table with balloons, banners & table confetti (we were the only people there that day - otherwise I wouldn't have asked!). We had taken our own champagne as I wasn't sure the Riad would supply alcohol. It transpires it does but Pierre was still happy to chill it for us and even provided champagne glasses. The breakfasts were very nice and we had 2 meals (1 lunch & 1 dinner). Both were very tasty, well presented and the red wine was lovely! I would certainly recommend eating there.

The Riad is beautiful. The decor is very tasteful and stylish, yet it has a homely feel. The bedrooms are lovely (Pierre "upgraded" my Mum and Dad to a suite at no extra cost - clearly we were out of season but this was a very nice touch and certainly made Mum feel special!). We stayed in rooms 4, 6 and 7 - but I am certain all the rooms are equally nice. There is a roof top terrace and, even in January, the sun was warm enough to sunbathe. It was very cold at night and we found the bedrooms chilly. A real fire in the downstairs sitting area was very welome but you needed to sit close to stay warm. The Riad has central heating (which Pierre put up at my request), but we all found it quite cold. The bedrooms have air conditioning unit so I am sure it 's fine in Summer. If you require a number of rooms it's worth asking for a discount - we got a reduced price but that may only apply out of season.

The Riad is situated in a residential area in the Kasbah. There were kids playing (nicely) outside, but once inside, you don't hear a thing. It's a complete haven. Its about a 15 min walk to the main square but the "petite" taxis are cheap provided you bargain & agree a price before you set off. I suggest you arrange a pick up from the airport via Pierre - its more expensive but cars cannot get to the Riad and you will have the benefit of assistance with your luggage and the taxi driver to escort you to the front door. Thereafter its easy to find your way to the main street but it can be a bit intimidating when people approach to "welcome" & "help" you. Generally they expect payment so either have small change at the ready or politely tell them you know where you are going! You are extremely unlikely to have a problem provided you are nice but firm.

I recommend the organised tour bus - there are 2 tours and both are an excellent way of getting your bearings (about £12 or so for 24 hours hop on/hop off). Eating at the night market (in the square) is also a must - just to say you've done it!

Marrakech was a lovely experience - and a stay at the Riad Alma made it very special. I highly recommend it.

Riad Alama is located in the Kasbah area not far from the Royal Palace. I had no problem walking on my own to Jemma El Fna during the day. It is about a 20 min walk. Riad Alma is ABSOLUTELY a treasure of beauty and tranquilty in a very hectic city! The rooms & the entire riad are clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. Phillipe the owner made me feel so at home and helped with arranging taxis, dinners, other travel. It can be arranged for your taxi driver to walk a block or 2 to the riad door if you prefer since the taxi can not drive directly to the door (you will find this is the case in most riads). Please know, this neighborhood is tranquil & lovely unlike many other riads I visited with friends. This is a true gem!
