“Yipee for Transavia ….. The best moroccan adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2009

My boyfriend and I flew into Agadir and worked our way north to Fes Via Marrakech…. Total trip of beach, beauty, shopping and culture.

We did the trash beach/hotel thing in Agadir on the beach and then spoilt ourselves rotten at Riad Tizwa in Marrakech and Fes.

The Marrakech hotel was the most laid back place we have been for years and really just so simple. The food was just lovely with the best breakfasts we every had. The best fruit salad ever (with a lovely twist). Beds comfortable and big (we stayed in room 3), terrace beautiful and the food very good. But it was the little things that made the difference: sort a good place to eat, done; hammam and masseur, done; The manager Mohammed and my boyfriend got on so well where he even took us to meet his family in the hills outside Marrakech.

Also they pretty good on the environmental side as we are interested in green issues. We also took their hand made soap from the natural herbalist from outside of Marrakech up to fes for them - but maybe time for solar panels?

The brothers who own the place were easy to deal with online when booking and just relaxed when we got there. Richard was there when we got there and I think that was a real bonus. He told us the history of the riad and really gave us a sense of morocco.

We thought this place was perfect to relax given the upsidedown madness of the souk.

My husband and I stayed at Riad Tizwa in Marrakech the end of April/beginning of May 2009. It was our last stop after visiting Fes and Essouira, and was the perfect way to end our trip to Morocco. Friendly, helpful, English-speaking staff (Mohammed, Abdullah, and Sana are the BEST!) got us settled with mint tea in our fabulously appointed room. Our room off the main courtyard had a magnificently carved ceiling and walls. The fountain in the courtyard was scattered with rose petals, and the sound of the water was very calming.

The location of the Riad is perfect - a short walk to the souks, Djemaa el Fna square, shopping, and restaurants. Tizwa is a perfect spot to return to after a day of shopping and winding through the maze of streets, dodging donkeys, motorbikes, people, and carts. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace, whenever you want, is the best way to start the day: breeze blowing the white canopy coverings, and a delicious huge spread of fresh-squeezed orange juice, homemade yogurt, croissants muesli, fresh fruit, and excellent coffee and tea.

We appreciated coming back through the doors of the Riad every day into the cool, peaceful, beautiful surroundings. It was like coming home each time. We also had dinner on the rooftop the night our last night - arrange ahead, and you will get the best meal of your trip, in the best setting. Lovely harira soup with three plates of delicious vegetable "salads" started the meal, and melt-in-the-mouth lamb tagine with prunes and almonds, and chicken tagine with preserved lemons, were both incredible. It was the perfect way to end our trip to Morocco.

Both the Riad Tizwa in Fes and in Marrakech are owned by two British brothers who have a sensitivity to the local surroundings and to their visitors. They support local craftspeople and merchants, and the handmade rose petal soap comes from a women's cooperative. If you want a real oasis for your travels in Morocco that will pamper you, Riad Tizwa is a must.

There are lots of things going for this riad - perfect location in the Medina; 5 or 6 rooms only so you feel you are in your "own" riad; close to all the major attractions of Marrakech; within reach of a main street (so you don't need to lug your luggage too far down pedestrian-only areas); the riad has a really nice luxury feel but without being too over the top; breakfast and mint tea on the roof terrace are definite highlights; the rooms have loads of character....but what makes it really special is the staff...the welcome was really great, professional yet really friendly and welcoming. They helped with restaurant recommendations and bookings, tips about the town, and supplied us with endless pots of mint tea on the roof terrace....we are so going back in November...

I don't really know where to start with this review, as everything at Riad Tizwa was so great. From the moment we arrived we were looked after 150% by all the staff, who went out of their way to help you. The Riad itself was beautful and our room exquisite. We were in Room 6 off the courtyard - with ceramic tiles & a gorgeous big stone bath. The food was delish esp the BREAKFAST- hands down best fruit salad I have ever tasted- avocado in a fruit salad - scrummy.
Riad Tizwa was also such good value for money - as you really can't put a price on excellent service. The location was also ideal - close enough to the Souks but not too close.
I could wax lyrical all day .... my boyfriend and I will be returning as soon as possible!

We decided to visit Riad Tizwa after reading the numerous glowing reviews. We were not to be disappointed!

Serene tranquility in the heart of the old town. The famous souk is within a short walk, as is the vibrant square and thousand year old mosque.

The service was simple outstanding - the staff are truly fantastic. Execeptionally friendly and they cant do enough to make your stay a memorable one.

We stayed in room 3, with its huge vaulted bathroom.

We were fortunate enough to encouter Richard, one of the co-owners, who recommended several fanstic restaurants and even accompanied us to one, which is rather diffcult to find in the heart of the souk.

They had prepared a delicious lunch on our arrival and we had dinner there one night - strongly recommended.

We will definately return!

We stayed at the Riad Tizwa for five nights in May 2009, and were super impressed with:

- the location (excellent for all Marrakech attractions)
- the yummy breakfasts (lovely fresh ingredients, served "where and when" you like)
- the rooftop balcony: perfect for an afternoon sunbathe
- the staff: welcoming, helpful, friendly
- the rooms (we stayed in room 5 - very comfortable bed, plenty of space)
- the 'little touches' - such as the pretty lanterns and candles at night

Most definitely recommended. Right in the heart of things... a few minutes walk to the souks, through which a fascinating walk into the main square... if you're looking for a great base for a short stay in Marrakech, and don't have loads of cash to burn, this is certainly the place.

Riad Tizwa provided everything we wanted: a beautiful place, great location, fabulous room, comfortable bed, DELIGHTFUL staff, marvellous food... It was remarkable also for the things we didn't want (and didn't use) but which might make all the difference to someone - e.g. air conditioning and iPod dock in the room.

I was travelling with my early-teenage son, who is not a man to pay compliments where they are not due. I overheard him tell his older sister on the phone: "It's the nicest house I've ever seen and the best place I've ever been to". Can't say fairer than that.
