“I highly recommend this magical riad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2009

I can't say enough good things about Riad Tizwa. The staff is absolutely lovely - gracious, thoughtful and ever so helpful. The hotel owners have incredibly sophisticated taste that shows in every elegant, gorgeous detail of the hotel. It is a truly beautiful place.

My experience was that the staff went far above and beyond their required duties to accommodate our needs. They helped to arrange every aspect of our visit, and, without prompting, made very thoughtful suggestions that greatly improved our experience. The staff was also very thoughtful about arranging special meals to accommodate the special dietary needs of our group.

Before booking, I was a bit concerned after reading a couple of negative reviews posted here. But as soon as I arrived I realized that my fears were completely unfounded. Clearly, the people who wrote those would be much better suited to different type of accommodation - perhaps an all-inclusive resort, or a business hotel. The Tizwa is a more like a dreamy boutique hotel or private estate, with outstanding personal service and super cool owners.

I'm completely in love with the Riad Tizwa and am already planning to visit again. Next time, I'm planning on bringing a bunch of friends and renting the whole Riad.

Wow!!! This Riad exceeded our expectations in every possible way... The first thing you are greeted with when arriving at the Riad when you ring the doorbell is a melody of singing birds. The Riad itself, is a beautifully crafted oasis of calm, hidden within the streets of the Medina. We took the room which was on the rooftop terrace of the Riad, which meant that we had great privacy, a private corner with chill out area laden with sofas, pillows and shaded by white curtains. In addition, unlike other Riads, where breakfast is served at a specific time, which means you can miss a much needed breakfast unless you get up early-ish, at Riad Tizwa, you can have breakfast whenever you want. As soon as you open the door to your room, you are greeted by a little table outside your door with fresh tea and coffee, whilst you wait for your breakfast to be prepared... one day we wanted to sleep in and had our breakfast at 2pm! Breakfast consists of fresh fruit salad, fresh bread, live yoghurt, Moroccan assorted breads and pancakes with jam, fresh orange juice, butter, cream, eggs prepared as you like them... The room itself was very comfortable, spacy yet cosy, with spacious bed, crisp fresh sheets...a Moroccan feel coupled with all modern comforts, such as wireless wi-fi, hairdryer, cel phone charger, complimentary toiletries, airconditioning with warmth and cool air... However it must be said that one of the key elements that made our stay so pleasant was the staff, from Daniel, the Scottish owner of the Riad, to the 2 Mohammeds who look after the Riad in the evening and during the day, to the cooking and cleaning staff, always wanting to go out of their way to be helpful and greeting you with a smile. When For example when I was at Tizwa, Daniel & Mohammed managed to get a much loved Bunny Teddy bear that I had left in Fes (7hrs away by train) to Marrakech within 28hrs before I left, by contacting the owner of the other place that we had stayed at, collecting it, organising a transfer, etc... This was really meant a lot to me! Also they made sure that we did not get lost, an easy thing to do in Marrakech! and that we would safely get to various places, such as restaurants, hairdressers, shops, providing guidance and useful tips about the ways of doing things and life in Marrakech throughout. There are so many small details that made such a difference to our stay, that it is hard to list them all!!! however we loved the fact that we could always come back to the Riad at any point during the day and be served a warm snack, such as Moroccan salads, soups and yummy tid bits... the fresh cakes baked daily and served all day, to the teas and the tangerines with leaves left about for us to eat anytime, in little bowls, to the many little birds that visit the Riad, and sing all day... so I just wanted to say a big thank you to Daniel, Mohammed, Mohammed and the Tizwa team for making our stay so pleasant!!!

Riad Tizwa Marrakech was the first stop for us in Morocco. We booked fairly last minute so we were a bit concerned what kind of place would be available, since it was the busy holiday season. When we got there our fears/concerns were immediately melted by the charm and fantastic hosts of Riad Tizwa. The staff were amazing and catered to our every need. It is casually elegant and has great luxury touches like great beds/sheets. We went on to their other property in Fes which was a truly wonderfull experience. I've written far more in my review of the Riad Tizwa Fes property if you care to read it. All of the same kinds of things apply.

11/10 and ****** (six stars)

I booked a surprise weekend for my boyfriend in Fes and Marrakech and loved every minute of it.

We arrived in Riad Tizwa in Fes firstly and they arranged a car and a driver to pick us up in casablanca airport and take us to Fes. We then went by train to Marrakech. All i can say is take a book. Its a long 7 hours, but you feel like an adventurer.

I preferred Marrakech to Fes and Riad Tizwa in Marrakech seems to have the air of comfort and a relaxed warmth that we were looking for. From when you open that large door and leave the noise outside you just seem to take it easy.

Great breakfasts - and with great beds, and lovely bath gowns.

Well worth a chilled visit, but take more than 4 night if you are doing 2 places

We were slightly unsure of what to expect when booking the riad but the warm welcome we received when arriving there put our fears immediately to rest. The staff were absolutely charming and will go out of their way to ensure that you are in need of nothing - they appear as if by magic whenever you might want anything and are always there to answer questions and give you advice.

The food is absolutely delicious and breakfast can keep you going until late in the day - even better, it's served whenever you want it to. We never got up before 12pm, except for when we were visiting the Atlas mountains, and breakfast would always be ready which meant that we never had to worry about what time we got up to catch breakfast - how fabulous! And it was always served on the terrace, just lovely.

The riad itself is really really pretty. The toilet in our room was massive, the bed really comfortable and the room felt very cosy. We couldn't have hoped for a better place to stay in, will definitely be returning to the riad in the near future. It's even better than being in a five-star hotel - everything seemed to be tailor-made to the individual and designed to revolve around one's pleasure and comfort!!

  • Liked — Friendly staff, great location, excellent food and service.
  • Disliked — I disliked nothing about the accomodation.

Marrakech is a chaotic city, most guide books describe as an ‘assault to the senses’. Arriving off the very basic night train from Tangiers, we were rescued from the swarm of taxi driving touts at Marrakech station by a driver sent from Riad Tizwa, who whisked us through the red city walls, stopping only to give a begging woman some coins through the car window. He led us down a crumbling alley and to a front door that showed none of the chic touches or design consciousness the internet photos of Riad Tizwa had lured us in with. We began to wonder if we were at the right place at all. But when the housekeeper received us into the calm white courtyard and plied us with mint tea, we began to realise what an oasis Riad Tizwa really was. And over our four night stay, things continued in that same wonderful way. What we noticed really set Riad Tizwa apart from many other places we have stayed was the attention to detail. Toiletries were sourced locally, the bathrooms are Tedelakh and the rooms were all individually decorated. It felt like you were a guest in a rich friend’s home, complete with charming, welcoming staff. The central courtyard and stairs were sprinkled with rose petals and illuminated with candle lanterns are night, and the rooftop terrace tiled with an eclectic mix of old tiles, sunbeds, red retro chairs and a tent. The food was a highlight – massive breakfasts (which included home made yoghurt), and the best dinner we ate in our whole time in Morocco cooked by the quiet and unassuming Riad chef. My favourite touch of all though had to be the thermos of coffee that was already waiting outside the bedroom door by the time I woke every morning. I’d be back there in a flash!

Navigating the breathtaking city of Marrakech can be quite a struggle for the Westerner; the hustle and bustle, and not to mention the heat, can be trying factors for those not used to them. Which why Riad Tizwa is the perfect place from which to explore this remarkable city. Once inside it's walls the noise of the city slips away and you find yourself in a beautful haven basking in the lap of luxury. The open courtyard gives light to the intricately decorated rooms which open off it, all of which bear a rustic Morroccan charm whilst retaining the opulence of a five star hotel. The rooftop terrace boasts comfortable seating areas, sunbathing deck and a cooling shower for when the Saharan rays get too much. Breakfast, served on the terrrace is divine. Moroccan treats mixed with Western favourites and the rather wonderful Morroccan peppermint tea.The staff are incredibly friendly and cater to your every need, they go to extraordinary lengths to make sure you enjoy your stay one hundred percent, which, I have no doubt you will.
