“It's all true....amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

Not sure that we can add anything to all the previous reviews….it’s true this Riad is amazing! Delicious food, excellent and courteous staff and beautiful traditional rooms that were spotlessly clean. From our first email enquiry to saying farewell, Georgiana and Massimo were the perfect hosts. All our requests were arranged in advance by email: taxi from the airport, a day trek in the Atlas Mountains, a visit to the Hamman (with a reluctant husband who would now recommend the experience!) and a guided walk around the city. We were apprehensive about visiting Marrakech and now we can’t wait to go back with friends and share the experience of this beautiful Riad and mesmerizing city. If everyone reads the reviews I don’t think we will get another booking for the next 10 years!

Giorgina and Massimo are wonderful hosts and the staff at Riad le Clos des Arts are welcoming and skilful . This is a secret haven. You walk in from a narrow dusty alley into a small peaceful courtyard open to the sky with a fountain at its centre. The sound of water and birdsong and the muezzin can be heard from the rooms facing the courtyard in this two storey building. There is a roof terrace where you can sit, eat spectacular breakfasts and dip into plunge pool. It is stylish and comfortable and as there are not many rooms you feel as if you have been invited into someone's home. Being in the centre of the medina, you can walk to anywhere in the souk and to many of the monuments.

Room Tip: Each room has its advantages and distinctive décor. Nacre ( on the ground floor) and Corail on the...

My friend and I just returned from our stay here. In fact, we planned our Marrakech dates specifically around their availability because I didn't want to stay anywhere else. It's such a plus having an ex pat couple running it. They give honest and helpful recommendations in this crazy city and it's so nice to have people looking out for you. Who knew that behind that door would be an oasis of tranquility and style? The food was fantastic and the room was chic and comfortable. I would highly recommend this riad! Can't say enough good things!

After arriving in Marrakech, we thought it would be easy to find the riad from the main square Djeema el Fna. That was a mistake on our side and after walking extensively being sent in all kinds of directions, we managed to get to the riad with the help of two boys. So one word of advice for anyone staying at le Clos des Artes: contact the the riad beforehand to make arrangements to pick you up. (they sent us an e-mail a few days before our arrival to ask us about our arrival but we didn't have internet connection, so we missed their e-mail.)

This experience was a very bad start of our stay but the fact that our stay at le Clos des Arts gets a five star rating is really a big compliment for Massimo and Giorgina, the owners. After our arrival Giorgina really took time to explain about Marrakech while minttea was being served and showed us personally the best way to get to Djeema el Fna. If you don't know it is hard, but if you do know, it is only an easy five minute walk. It is uncommon for us to have long conversations with the owners of the places we are staying in, but in this case we had nice talks with Giorgina and Massimo who are really excellent hosts with interesting backgrounds.

The design of the riad is a subtle and elegant combination of traditional and modern elements. We had the amethyst suite which was spacious, clean and an oasis of rest with excellent beds. We didn't miss the television but we really liked the excellent WiFi.

Breakfast was creative with homemade options you don't often see. Some we really loved, but the avocado juice was not really to our liking and replaced with orange juice. It was beautiful to sit on the roof and enjoy breakfast in the sun. We didn't eat dinner at the riad but Massimo and Giorgina had excellent recommendations for lunch or dinner like the Kozybar and Le Jardin.

Marrakech has turned into a hype with large groups of tourists visiting which puts a lot of pressure on the experience (the Majorelle gardens e.g. are nice and quiet when you are there with a few people but not when you are there with a huge crowd) and pricing. We found Fes more authentic and maybe a better way to experience an old medina and souks.

But if you do come to Marrakech, we can fully recommend le Clos des Arts: after a rocky start because we couldn't find the riad, we really loved this beautiful boutique riad with the wonderful personal touch of the two owners.

As a seasoned Trip Adviser user getting on for 10 years, as I poured over Riad reviews in preparation for our trip to Marrakech it struck me that many seemed a litte fishy. It is sad that increasingly reviews are seemingly written by owners themselves or by 'professional reviewers' who write positive reviews for money, often never having stayed at the property. This makes it increasingly difficult to rely on reviews - would Riad le Clos des Arts live up to it's reviews?

Well I have to tell you that it whole heartedly does. Massimo & Georgina run a home from home in the charming chaos that is Marrakech.

We stayed for 3 nights. There is not more than I can add that hasn't been said many times by other reviewers - it really is as good as everyone says. Airport transfers were faultless. The 1:1 orientation talk on arrival over mint tea and pastries really sets you up for meeting Marrakech head on. Rooms are beautifully decorated and housekeeping excellent with water and fruit provided. Communial areas are lovely, filled with wonderful smells and comfortable areas to relax. The roof terrace is a nice place to relax in the sunshine. Breakfast is a filling selection of fresh fruit, lovely homemade yoghurt, freshly squeezed juice, coffee/tea and an egg. It was always fresh and tasty, if lacking in variety a little after a few days. We ate dinner in the Riad all 3 nights and found it to be delicious. It is fantastically located 5 minutes walk to the main square and souks.

Rooms can be a little noisy so you should prepare for this since they all surround the central courtyard, but you have to remember that you are staying in an old house not a modern soundproofed hotel. The noise we found to be a particular problem in Suite Nacre where we stayed for the first two nights. This suite is on the ground floor so you do get noise from clearing after dinner, staff enjoying tea afterwards, if the door bell rings and in the morning so book a different room is you like an early night or a lay in - even with ear plugs in my wife found it noisy! The matress in that room is also very firm.

We had a lovely relaxing time though and wouldn't hesitate to book again next time we're in Marrakech.

Room Tip: See notes above about noise.

There are clearly already lots of tributes here to the hospitality offered by the hosts and the staff at this Riad. I will simply say here that I echo these sentiments and would thoroughly recommend a stay here. In terms of looking for something that might be helpful to those reading this and thinking of booking, I will offer the following:

1) We stayed in the ground-floor room. If you are very private people, you may find this proximity to the living areas of the house, the office, atrium etc. a little uncomfortable. Personally we did not find this a problem as we didn't spend much time at the Riad. The ground floor room is a beautiful rom to stay in.

2) Ensure you phone ahead prior to arrival to ensure that somebody comes to meet you at the edge of the Medina to guide you to the Riad for the first time (you will soon get the hang of it!)

3) Eat at the Riad at least one time - excellent food served here, certainly on par with the most expensive restaurants (the fig and cream dessert has made me a fig addict now)

4) Take a guided tour with the guides recommended by the Riad; we booked for a half day and found it fascinating and a great way to learn about the city, religion, history etc. and it took us to areas where we perhaps wouldn't have considered and see more of Marrakech

5) Do't use the cash machine at the post office (exit of the Medina closets to the Riad) - problems!

6) If you are arriving late and want anything particular prepared for you / need any supplies - just phone ahead; these people certainly ono how to host guests and will look to help wherever they can

7) Look out for Massimo's sense of humour - he caught me out a few times ......!!!

We would certainly return here next time we stay in Marrakech.

I'm rejuvenating in The Atlas Mountains after a 2 day break in Marrakech - we were very fortunate to have stayed in this Riad (chosen on basis of good reviews on TA).
The other reviews say it all so I'll keep this short!
Hosts, location, rooms, dinner, breakfast were all excellent & made our first trip to this exotic city much more relaxing than expected - a great start to our Moroccan adventure!
