We had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable holiday at the Riad Tammou. The service level was exceptional, the food amazing, and the amenities just right. We went to escape the fast pace of life in London and unplug in warm weather and a comfortable atmosphere; and that's exactly what happened.
There are no phones (although mobile coverage is excellent throughout Marrakech) and no internet service. If you need your fix of sports scores or work e-mail, they'll drive you down to the nearby village (or you can walk) where there is a hut featuring four Dell computers and internet access for 10 dirhams an hour (that's just over 50 pence). How about that!
They don't want TVs in the rooms, but if you need a fix they've recently added a 60" plasma screen with a satellite dish in the theatre room. The only other hint of technology is the soft jazz emanating from the Bose speakers throughout the Riad. And if you don't like soft jazz, don't worry, they'll play whatever you want...
Essentially, Ali and Souad (the owners) and their team have set up the Riad as a home away from home. It doesn't feel like a hotel at all. The staff is there - behind the scenes - to ensure that you're as comfortable as you can be. You can choose to stay on the grounds of the Riad and relax indoors or out, you can go for a long run through the olive fields behind the property, or you can utilise one of the drivers and cars provided at your service to take you into the inner walls of Old Marrakech (a magical experience I might add), or to one of three nearby golf courses.
Finally, I should mention how excellent the chef is at Riad Tammou. Her name is Mahjouba, and her Moroccan dishes were so excellent that we only ate dinner in the Medina (inside the walls of old Marrakech) three times over ten nights.
Additionally, if you happen to be bringing small children with you, you won't believe how much Moroccans will adore them. Najat, one of the housekeeping staff, spent hours a day helping us out with ours. It was totally unexpected, and she was absolutely wonderful. Finally, Azdine, the head of the staff there, is at your beck and call, ensuring that you are relaxed throughout the day.
Essentially, we can't recommend Riad Tammou more highly, and will certainly return.
