my eight-year-old daughter and i booked into this riad for 5 nights in late november 2012. at each step of the way--from communications responding to requests for information to booking to arrival to departure--we were greeted with helpful, friendly and kind treatment.
emanuela, the manager of all three of the uovo riads in marrakech, was very well spoken in both french and english (neither of which is her native tongue) and was extremely helpful in the booking process. she also stopped by the riad when we were there to introduce herself, and we were welcomed by her and her staff at one of their other riads during our stay so we could take a tour and have a lovely afternoon tea.
the staff at riad due--rhizlane, khalid, rashid, habib and the lovely women who cared for us with the kitchen and housekeeping services--were attentive, kind, warm and generous. they truly made us feel like we were at home in marrakech, and this was no small feat for my daughter who was quite homesick at first. we were treated to guidance throughout the city when we asked for it and to recommendations for touring and eating, and we enjoyed many lovely moments in conversation with each of them. at once, they were always professional and responsive. we felt very comfortable, safe and well attended to.
we enjoyed our beautiful room (the suite abdel) with its gorgeous appointments including a demi-swimming pool for a bathtub and an enormous walk-in closet beyond the abundant seating and sleeping area and generous bathroom area. we saw each of the other suites as well and had a hard time deciding which was the most beautiful. in the end, we decided they were all spectacular. if we could have stayed longer, we would have tried staying in each of them!
the rooftop was our chosen morning location where i did yoga and my daughter relaxed on the gorgeous lounge furnishings and watched movies on the laptop. although the wifi is spotty in the riad, i ascribe that more to marrakech than to the riad itself. i am a bit ashamed that i needed it at all since the riad was such a welcome respite from all things quotidian in my normal life.
the food was outstanding on all levels. the breakfasts were ample and fit for a queen (and a princess), replete with local delicacies and even some european touches. the staff always seemed to know when we were rising and got breakfast ready to serve just as we were emerging from our suite. even on the morning of our departure when we had to leave quite early for the airport, breakfast was served beautifully and timely. dinners were equally enchanting and were easy to arrange with a little advance notice. we had arranged for a light dinner to be waiting for us on the evening of our arrival, and we were welcomed with the mostly sumptuous meal of carrot and orange bell pepper soup and a traditional tagine with chicken and olives. my only caveat with à la carte meals is that they are a bit pricey by my standards, but they are, admittedly, well worth the cost. on the other evenings when we had dinner at the riad, we were able to make some specific requests that the staff was, as usual, happy to oblige us.
riad due offers a sumptuous environment complemented by an attentive, professional and kind staff. i recommend it highly.
