“Beautiful Riad in the Heart of Marrakech.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

We stayed here for a short break before Christmas, and weren't disappointed. The Riad is owned and run by two French guys, Noel and Fabrice. They also have a small team of people to help during the day with breakfast, and cleaning the rooms.

It's small (5-6 rooms) but that's a Riad. It's decorated in a gorgeous contemporary Moroccan style, with a cosy snug with an open fire on the ground floor. The central courtyard is open to the elements, and as this was winter, they put an awning over the roof. That said we had breakfast most mornings on the roof terrace, which afforded incredible views across the Medina out toward the Atlas Mountains.

Noel couldn't have been more helpful with suggestions of places to go, and arranging our taxis to-and-from the airport. Despite being very near the chaos of the Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, it was very quiet once in the Riad. A pot of mint tea was always rustled-up whenever we came in after a dusty day pounding the souks and dodging mopeds (!).

Lovely food, lovely people, lovely atmosphere. For 67 Euros a night, it couldn't be faulted.

Room Tip: We had the cheapest room on the ground floor, and it was fine. Shower /toilet at one end. I think if...

My daughter and I stayed for 4 days and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service was perfect,so friendly and welcoming. The food in particular was outstanding, only 20 euros for a 3 course meal plus drinks that would cost easily double elsewhere. The breakfast included orange juice, pastries, crepes, fruit, yoghurt, bread and homemade jam and there was so much that we took what we couldn't eat for our lunch.Every afternoon we had mint tea and cakes, all free of charge.Other unexpected extras included bottled water, free transfers, slippers, phone in case of getting lost, fresh roses and handmade soap.Loved relaxing on the roof terrace and the lounge with fire was also a bonus.
TIP:We found it was cheaper to book direct with the owners.

Myself and 3 friends stayed here in October. Noel, the owner, was helpful from the moment we booked - arranging a cheap airport transfer for our arrival. Upon arriving staff were just as helpful and friendly, providing a map and even walking us up to the main square so that we could get some dinner. When we returned to the beautiful Riad late that night they brought biscuits and Moroccan tea to our rooms too. Breakfast on the quiet sunny rooftop was lovely too and Noel even booked our taxi transfer when we left Marrakech and went to Essaouira and recommended a restaurant for us to try there.

This Riad is located in the middle of the Medina; just turn a few corners and you are in the Djemaa el-Fna square. Very kind and helpful owners and staff. Beautiful roof terrace for breakfast and siesta. Rooms are well equipped and very clean.

This Riad is beautiful and decorated with taste and attention to every detail. I stayed in the most lovely room and slept well on a most comfortable bed. The owner Noel was wonderful in every way. He communicated well via e-mail before we arrived and when we were in Marrakesh he sat down with us and freely gave of his time to recommend the most fascinating places to see and where to eat.
We were so delighted with the quality of breakfast that we booked an evening meal which was exquisite.
I would recommend this Riad to anyone who is looking for a stylish and traditional riad very close to the main square and I would like to thank Noel for his warm hospitality.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful

The riad was clean and very characterful, in an excellent location (a quiet street just off a main street, a few mins from the main square). The breakfasts were nice and the owners were polite and helpful. However, I have to admit I was a little surprised at their lack of knowledge/initial helpfullness regarding bus tickets to Essaouira. In the end Noel was very helpful and booked it for us on his ipad, since the public computer did not work. But it seemed as if noone had every travelled to Essaouira before and I have always found that hotels/guesthouses will generally sort this sort of thing out for you without any trouble. It was a bit of a faff and it did cause a little bit of stress which I was not expecting. Other people on the bus had their riads sort it out without fuss. When we left we had to pay 40 dirhams to a guy, organised by the riad, to take our bags up to the main square in a little trolley and flag a taxi for us - this seemed a bit excessive. Overall nice riad, but could have been a more relaxing experience - I would say the vibe is not quite as relaxed as others I stayed in on this trip. - Oh and the bed was extremely hard.

Hello Eileen,
Thanks to comment your experience on tripadvisor.
But I'm very sad to read it...
First for matress, you have to know that we change them 3 time in one year and each room now has the best matress "simmons"... for the Bahia room, usually guests find it lovely... for quality/price, perhaps you're right but please consideres breakfast, tea and sweet cakes, bottle of water, sleepers, location, wifi... and of course commission...
But second and more important, our helpfulness... on 5 october, one week before to arrive here, i explained you by email that you can buy your ticket by internet... you didn't... appenrently not stress by that...
Remember, for you from the riad, I tried to call supratours a long time when you were visiting the medina... no answer and finally Simo went to supratour for you after his day of work, wait 2 hours to finally learn that supratours was complete for the week (you where here the worse week of the year concerning travel and tourism because that the season there is the more and during Aid El Kebir, everything is closed and even moroccan people travel)... and yes finally you booked it with my computer on Ctm (the computer works in the riad, it's not the best, I know!), like I suggest to you to do on 5 october, after your dinner, and seem no stress?.. and this booking take a long time, remember you, because from morocco there were some securities and we had to try several times...
Icham, the porteur, went with you and find a taxi. I pay him each time minimum 30 mdh, more depending bagages... you paied him 40 and he find and argue price with taxi, apparently this help cost you 10mdh more... where is the problem....

Really your comment make me sad and stress too because its completely in opposite of what we want to offer to our guests... luckely that the first time that guest write something like that because usually they are very happy of our help...
Finally, you'll be able to have a good stay if you follow our advise...

I wait the email of tripadvisor concerning your comment to answer online because you'll understand that it's important for readers to have this kind of informations.

Very sorry that you keep this remember of Riad Villa El Arsa.
Your daughter has the same remember?

Kind regards,
Noel

ps: I went to Essaouira in testing all manieres: by popular bus, 7hours, by Supratours and CTM and I explained you the difference between the location of each station, by "grand taxi", or renting a car... you remember?
