“A Wonderful Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

We just got back from 3 nights in Marakech. Fun city, but the riad was great. Jean-Marie made our stay so much easier than it would have been and we felt at home from the moment we arrived. We highly recommend it. Would love to go back!!

Located close to one of the main tourist attractions in Marrakesh (Ali Ben Youssef Medersa) and not far from the tanneries. We booked for three nights here and ended up staying for six! Jean-Michel, Frederic, Said and their team were very knowledgable and could not have been more helpful. This peaceful riad has a lovely roof terrace, is very comfortable and serves a good breakfast. Just perfect. We also recommend you ask them to arrange the taxi to collect you from the airport as we would have struggled to find it on our own! Until the next time ...

My friend and I celebrated her 30th Birthday by visiting Marrakech for four nights from 26th February to 2nd March. We chose this Riad based on Trip Advisor reviews and price and found it to be everything and more that people have said.

We were looked after very well by Kermit the Cat and Said while the owners were away. He showed us how to make mint tea, advised us on how much we should be paying in the Souks, would go with us to book taxis if we needed so we got Moroccan price not tourist price and organised us a trip to the Atlas Mountains through a tour company which was just a great day!

We took the offer of being met at the airport and were so glad when realised there was definitely no way we could have found it on our own in the first instance. It felt very welcoming to be met by Francois at the taxi drop off point. We ate dinner at the Riad on our first night which was lovely and booked to have a hamman and massage which is a must for a visit to Morocco!

We loved how authentic and personal the whole experience of staying at Riad Safa was and will definitely be returning soon!

Thanks Said and Kermit!
Best wishes from Lyndsay and Amanda xx

This riad/B&B is well-located, reasonably priced, has helpful and knowledgeable staff, has a nice rooftop terrace, provides a good breakfast and is clean and comfortable. It had everything we were looking for and more.

I chose Riad Safa on the basis of glowing Tripadvisor reviews, and it was even better than I anticipated. It is in an excellent location in the medina. The whole riad is beautifully furnished, the rooms are clean and very comfortable. The staff and owners were more than helpful - they provided maps and even let me borrow a guide book. Every morning we had breakfast on the roof terrace accompanied by Kermit the cat. Dinner was also very good. Thoroughly recommend!

After searching through many reviews to find the right place for us we eventually decided that Riad Safa was the place we wanted to stay. It didn't let us down. As first time visitors to Marrakech we followed the advice from other reviews of booking the airport transfer and we are so glad we did. One of the owners Jean Michel was there to meet us and help us with our bags down to the riad, we certainly looked like tourists so were glad he was there to guide us.

As soon as we arrived we were given traditional Moroccan whiskey (mint tea) and home made cookies while Jean Michel talked us through the area, provided us with maps and answered any questions. The riad looked just as impressive as the pictures on the website. It was bright, clean and became our home for the 5 nights we stayed. We were pleased with our room. Nice shower, bed and plenty of wardrobe space. It does get a little chilly in the evening and first thing in the morning as we were there during their winter and the thick walls of the riad are designed to keep it cool. This wasn't a problem though as we were provided with a heater and air con.

The riad is located to the north of the main square and souks and is easily accessible when you know your way! It does take a day to remember the route, and get used to the locals pointing you in all directions, but that would be the same with any riad.

Coming from cold rainy England breakfast on the roof terrace was a real treat with a good variety of home made goodies. There was fresh fruit, cakes, breads, homemade yoghurts, pancakes and tea and coffee. These were varied slightly daily!

We really wanted to do a day trip to the Atlas Mountains and this could be organised by the riad. Luckily another couple staying wanted to share the private 4x4 and guide/driver so the cost was reasonable divided by four. Most of the trip was spent driving through the spectacular scenery with a stop for more Moroccan whiskey and with a Berber family for a traditional lunch. The driver explained a lot about the local people and way of life despite not being an official guide and had a great sense of humour making the day really enjoyable for all four of us. If you are looking for a more active day trip then it might be worth checking out other options.

As a treat on our last day we organised to have a traditional Moroccan hammam, body scrub and massage at the riad. It is probably possible to find a cheaper option out of the riad but paying for exclusive use and private massage in the comfort of familiar and clean surroundings was definitely worth it. It was a great experience and really relaxing. Would recommend!

The staff were all lovely Jean Michel and Frederic were on hand everyday to provide advice and recommendations. A special mention to Said the night manager who was great company and always willing to help. He was great to provide advice about haggling and it was fun to have a little bit of friendly banter about the champions league football (come on united)!! As animal lovers we really enjoyed the live in cat Kermit and visits from Peggy the dog!

Thanks for a great holiday!!

Nicky and Max
