“Quiet in the hubbub that is Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

A quiet, welcoming and peaceful Riad, down a small narrow street, a little off a main thoroughfare with markets and local traders. The hospitality here is out of this world, and the staff (David and Michael were there when we were) take every effort to make one's stay and time in Marrakech so enjoyable, from meeting the airport taxi, to leaving.
All the advice given was very helpful and the company they use for excursions is great - we went for a hike in the Atlas Mountains and had lunch out one day. All the places to eat were very good recommendations, but they too can cook super dinners. Breakfasts were also most enjoyable on the roof terrace.

Certainly a place to come back to, and fully recommend a stay here.

Room Tip: We stayed in Jade on the top floor, which did have super views, a lovely large wet room for a bathro...

A little haven in crazy Marrakech. Down to the finer details, Riad al Massarah is an experience. Michael and Michele Nre super helpful and accommodating. The staff have a beautiful rhythm and dynamic that creates such a warm, comforting, serene space. The accommodation is luxe and you can tell that things are well planned. Staff advise is thoughtful, honest and we were truly grateful. We had a couple mishaps in booking out accommodation but between Michael, david and Michele there was nothing to worry about. Thanks and can't wait to visit again. Niki and Alison

This is a long LONG overdue review. A year ago we spent 4 nights at the Al Massarah and it was one of the best experiences of hospitality we have had. My partner had organised the visit as a surprise for me (very lucky me) and in the run-up the owners Michel and Michael had been extraordinarily helpful in helping him organise everything, including getting recommendations on where we should go while in Marrakech. Our room was beautifully decorated, cosy yet also cool with a feeling of privacy despite having a window onto the balcony, and the bathroom was huge and really quite impressive! As it's a Riad there is a balcony running along outside all of the rooms, where we sat in our two chairs at our little table, and had a delicious breakfast every morning. There is a roof terrace with wonderful views of the rooftops of the city, where you can lie on loungers, or sit in the shade and have drinks and nibbles in the evening watching the sunset. Downstairs there is the little pool and beautiful courtyard, all trickling water, candles, carpets and general luxe setting where you can sit and have your aperitif, coffee etc in total calm. You can also eat dinner at the Riad, which we did twice, in the little dining room off the courtyard. The food was to die for: imagine Moroccan food at its most authentic and delicious. I still have dreams about those tagines...Aside from M &M being a regular helpful and friendly presence, the Morrocan staff at the Riad really deserve a special mention. The lady who brought us breakfast did so with a beaming smile, which she replicated everytime we came accross each other - I wanted to hug her every time I saw her! The guys who worked there were without fail super friendly and incredibly helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, and everything was done to cultivate the atmosphere of luxurious calm with a smile. The British hospitality industry could learn a thing or two about service from these guys and girls! We really appreciated everything they did for us (including the huge bunch of beautiful red roses they gave me on my birthday!). Additionally, all the staff seemed really happy and well cared for by their French/British employers (and in fact due to being able to speak French our chats with the staff confirmed this!), everyone seemed to really trust and like each other and the resulting atmosphere really made us feel relaxed and happy there. We also had a traditional Hamam and massage which was an amazing experience. If you don't want to be washed naked by a stranger (of the same sex, obviously) I probably wouldn't recommend, but if you can relax and enjoy it it's a wonderful experience!! This Riad is an absolute haven of luxury and peace in the busy Marrakech medina. It's beautiful, the staff are fantastic and the food is fabulous. What more could you ask for?

I just have to write a review about my experience at the Riad Al Massarah. The surroundings interesting, tasteful and a respite from the hustle and bustle of the Medina outside. My bedroom charming, very quiet and very comfortable. The staff not only very friendly but also very helpful, and interesting to chat with. The food was the best of all our meals while in Marrakech. We had breakfast everyday along with a couple of lunches and several dinners during our 8 day stay. Michael and David are wonderful hosts, so very patient about helping us with directions, but also in finding us a wonderful service and guide who would take us to the mountains and the sea. Both excursions a delight and most interesting. My whole experience at Al Massarah exceeded my hopes and expectations. I will remember my experience there with fondness and delight. Lee D.

It was a long held ambition to visit Marrakech. We were not disappointed and had an amazing time exploring the sights and souks of this intriguing city. The Riad Al Massarah was our home for three nights. We were received with a warm welcome and our room was tastefully and comfortably furnished. Our genial host was a treasure chest of useful information and recommendations and we were fascinated to hear how he and his partner had transformed the riad into the beautiful inner city haven it is today. We were served delicious breakfasts on the balcony of our first floor room but the highlight of our stay was the excellent lunch served each day on the roof terrace where we were to enjoy warm sunshine and fabulous views of the High Atlas Mountains over the Koutoubia Mosque. (Book for lunch at breakfast and for dinner before 3pm).

Room Tip: All rooms are good.

We stayed here in May and Michel was so amazingly helpful and generous as a host. From the minute we arrived he arranged to meet us, get our bags taken over and made sure that we were settled and welcomed (with some fresh mint tea and sweets too!). He also advised us on places to eat and what to see (great to have local knowledge).

The Riad was so calming and the courtyard was great to just lounge in. We were wowed too by the decor - ornate furnishings and bold colours - and a large, comfy bed.

There are so many riads to choose from in Marrakech, it can be overwhelming. Rest assured, Al Massarah doesn't disappoint. From the moment we arrived the service was excellent - staff met us at the taxi and showed us the way there, through a couple of side streets off a small but bustling market. We ate a delicious dinner there on the first night in the dining room next to the serene courtyard. There is a small pool to cool off in, a library room and a great roof terrace for sunbathing. Our room was small very charming, with a massive bathroom and shutters that blocked out all the light, great for a good night's sleep! It's in a great location, 10 minute walk from the main souqs and 15-20 to the main square. All the staff are very helpful and will go above and beyond to assist you; my girlfriend was ill on the first day and they were very attentive. Couldn't recommend it enough for a first time in Marrakech.
