“The Lap of Luxury”

After a hectic week of sightseeing in Barcelona, The relaxed, visually beautiful, and delicious Dar Charkia Riad was just the tonic needed to recharge the soul. From the late night greeting by the staff to the daily morning conferences and question-answer sessions with Lisa and Michael, and all the little details all day long made our stay just perfect. Lisa made arrangements for everything we wanted to do after offering a ton of suggestions even before we arrived. We spent a gorgeous spa day at a hotel out of the old city, had a tangine cooking lesson, and of course shopped in the souks. But my favorite thing was coming back to the riad and relaxing in the courtyard with its 2 water features and tree, the sitting nooks with sumptious cushions where we dined in the morning, the library with computer, and the colorful sparkling decor all over. Our group decided to dine in our final night and we were treated to a wonderful meal served by the gracious and attentive staff. the rooms are colorful and comfortable. When booking, we were too late to get rooms with 2 beds each so Lisa put brand new single beds in rooms with doubles to accommodate us. The bathroom has an open shower area with shampoo etc in vials! I forgot to mention the roof deck. There is a canopied area with couches as well as lounge chairs for relaxing and sunning. We ate breakfast up top one morning. But it is open for evening star gazing as well. You do have to take the stairs to most of the rooms but thankfully the luggage is hauled up and down by the staff. You feel like you are in another world that's exotic yet so comfortable you want to stay forever. Even the early morning (!) minaret call to prayer seemed charming and appropriate. About the only thing I can think of that might be a problem was our air conditioner - it wasn't cold enough for my roommate but then I thought we didn't need it at all so I wasn't distressed. Also we had a rather noisy toilet which we were learning to silence after a night or 2.

I stayed at Dar Charkia with three friends. We knew someone who had visited there last summer and raved about the riad, the hosts, Michael and Lisa, and just the city in general. We found it to be as wonderful as she said. We arrived at the riad very late at night, tired and a bit dazed. We were meet at the drop off point by the guardian and his helper, and from that point on, we were well take care of by the Dar Charkia staff. The riad is tastefully decorated and comfortable. The food is fresh and homemade. The location is convenient for visiting the souks and other attractions. The number one asset of the riad, however, is the staff. Everyone involved in our stay was friendly, helpful and efficient. We were very well taken care of. Lisa was very helpful in suggesting area attractions and helping us make reservations and arranging for transportation. We enjoyed having breakfast on the rooftop patio, and drinks in the open-air courtyard in the evening. The one draw back to the open air courtyard is the amount of noise that drifts up to the bedrooms. You can hear everyone's conversation. This was my first time in Marrakech. I would definitely return to Dar Charkia on any return trip.

I was recommended this Riad by a business colleague so already knew I'd be onto a good thing - I just didn't realise how good!

Having read some reviews on Marrakech as a city the day before we left, I was slightly concerned about some of the stories of the Souks and the traders, I needn't have worried everything was fine - in fact it has to go down as one of my favourite cities - forget pretentious New York, this is the place to be!

Following our airport transfer which Lisa had arranged, we arrived at Dar Charkia and Lisa ran through all of the information about Marrakech and also through the dinner reservations we'd previously made, marking them on a map which. The welcome drinks and canapes were tremendously welcome having been travelling since 4am that morning. Breakfast on the roof terrace was a great start to the morning each day and one of my only regrets was that we didn't have dinner one evening here.

We had a day out in the Atlas Mountains - again Lisa had organised, which we found tremendously interesting and broke the 3 days in Marrakech up. Visiting a Berber house and seeing not only the mountains but how people survive in such a barren landscape was very humbling.

All in all I would definitely go back to both Marrakech and Dar Charkia, if it's your first time to Marrakech Lisa's knowledge in absolutely invaluable to make the most of your stay - add to that the superb location and beautiful rooms and you need look no further.

What a find Dar Charkia was. My sister and I stayed at the riad for three nights in October and we couldn't have asked for more. The location is amazing - in the heart of the medina but close to the souks and main square - and the riad itself is beautifully decorated. From the moment we walked in, we were looked after by the friendly staff and nothing was too much trouble for the owners Lisa and Michael. They went out their way to recommend restaurants and shops and all of these were spot on. We stayed in two different rooms (as we went to the Atlas mountains for two days - organised through a contact of Lisa's) and both were gorgeous. The breakfasts are delicious too. We couldn't recommend Dar Charkia enough, it made our stay in Marrakech really special and we both plan to go back one day.

Dar Charkia provides the perfect base from which to explore Marrakech. Lisa and Michael are on hand to make sure every little detail is attended to. The staff in the Riad are delightful and nothing is too much trouble. We took an amazing trip out to the Atlas mountains, all oragnised by Lisa to include a stunning lunch stopover. When the Souks get too much the roof terrace provides a tranquil retreat.

I did not want to leave! Dar Charkia is the most beautiful riad with the best staff and the owners Lisa and Michael are amazing! I am convinced that your stay in Marrakech will not be the same if you do not have them to guide you and share their great tips and tricks. I highly recommend Dar Charkia and I also recommend staying as long as you can! We stayed 6 nights and I didn't want to leave. Perfect location, walking distance to the souks, beautiful rooms, very clean, amazing service and a GREAT VALUE. I will make it back again for sure!! Thanks Lisa and Michael!! We miss you already!! One more thing...they organized some great tour guides for shopping and cultural tours:)

Dar Charkia is ideal for anyone who wants a Marrakech city break. We were met on arrival at the airport by our driver who quickly transported us to this gem of a riad. Lisa and Michael, the owners, gave us a very warm welcome with drinks and canapes. Lisa also offered us her wealth of experience on where to shop, eat and see the best that Marrakech has to offer. Her warm friendly staff where on hand to make sure our stay was as pleasurable as possible.
