“Fantastic place for a special birthday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013 via mobile

We went to Marrakech for my 50th birthday. We were a group of 5 couples. Lisa and Michael couldn't have been more helpful nor could the rest of the staff. The riad is beautiful and nice and calm after the madness of the square and the souks.
Everyone had a fantastic time which partly due to Lisa. Would definitely go again.

After a week volunteering in Zambia a hot shower with flower peddles felt like heaven! I felt as if I was a guest in a friends home instead of a hotel. I recommend breakfast on the roof ! For those that like to walk Dar Charkia is a great location and for those that do not like to walk the taxi stand is a minute walk. I can't wait to go back!

My wife and I stayed here as part of our honeymoon, and it was wonderful. As soon as you come off the narrow little street, it's like you enter an oasis. The smells and sounds of the street are left behind you and you have this great sitting area with a plunge pool. Lisa was amazing, and spent probably 40 minutes with us in the morning going over where to go and showing us places on the map. Not that the map mattered, since we got horribly lost in the market anyways!
The rooftop sitting area is incredible - and as the sun goes down, sitting up there with a cold beer listening to all the mosques calling prayer was an awesome experience. The breakfast they offer was perfect and delicious. The room we had was great - very clean and with ac that kept it nice and cool! I would definitely recommend this to friends who were coming to visit Marrakech.

10 of us went to this hotel for a friends 50th birthday, it was so good, this hotel is beautiful and I would highly recommend it to anybody visiting Marrakech. Lisa and Michael could not have been more friendly and helpful, as soon as we entered the Riad we were given a wonderful welcome, with a lovely mint tea, (you have to try this tea, it's so refreshing), Lisa had maps ready for everyone with all the shops we should visit and all the clean toilets to use (that bit is very handy ladies). We stayed in the Sahara suite, this really is one of the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in, typical Moroccan style with a bottle of water and lovely nuts to nibble, always ready on the table. Staff at the Riad all spoke excellent english and were all very helpful. We had breakfast on the terrace together each morning with something different to try every day. Lisa had arranged guides for us all one day to go round the souks, our guide also took us to a museum and places where they make wood crafts with their feet, (amazing to watch). Lisa also arranged two taxis to take us to a beautiful hotel in the Atlas Mountains for lunch (lunch pre booked by the birthday girl), our drivers stopped in a couple of places on way so we could take pictures of the villages, and mountains, lovely views. Would also recommend Pepe Nero's for a meal one night, again food and staff excellent. If we ever.go back to Marrakech would have to stay Dar Chakira again, knowing we would be well looked after.

On arrival at the Riad, we were immediately welcomed by owners Lisa and Michael with a pot of mint tea and biscuits. The Riad itself is peace and tranquility, and very romantic, especially at night when the courtyard lighting is complemented with lots of candles. It is also very centrally situated within the Medina. Lisa gave us a map and proceeded to explain all the additions she had made to it, including where to shop, cafes/restaurants and even good WCs!
Our room (the Sahara) was lovely, and naturally decorated in typically Moroccan style, with a large basin separate from the shower room/toilet, which was extremely useful.

We had an excellent dinner at the Riad on the first night, where we were seated in a beautiful alcove in the courtyard - an amazing atmosphere! Lisa and Michael also recommended many restaurants, and every one we visited was very good. We would especially recommend Pepe Nero, set in a beautiful courtyard, and with lovely food and various complimentary "extras". The service was also very good, especially for dar Charkia guests! We also really loved Al Fassia, which it is said has the best tagines in Marrakech - again the food was really good and the portions are very large - a lovely restaurant, plush and with a good atmosphere, and obviously very popular, judging by the number of people going in an out all evening!

The breakfasts at the Riad each morning - served in the courtyard or on the roof terrace (or anywhere you wanted!) - were delicious, with a different "treat" each day, and could be taken at any time of the day - the staff were all so helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Tea, etc., was always available and on the house, and could be taken at any time - it was lovely coming back in the evening to a warming cup of mint tea!

On our first morning we were given a tour of the Medina by Najib, who gave us some very interesting information and history, and orientated us with the Medina. We also went on a wonderful tour of the Atlas Mountains, our driver and guide being Abdu, who was an excellent driver and made us feel quite safe on the steep mountain roads.

We had a great time, and thanks to Lisa and Michael and all their staff for making it even more enjoyable.

We have just returned from an absolutely amazing 40th birthday celebration for my husband. We spent 5 nights at the Riad and could have stayed longer - much longer!! Lisa and Michael were really helpful, kind and informative. Every member of staff couldn't do enough to help - from Little Samira who helped with day to day running and booking trips; 'Big Samira' who helped serve the most amazing breakfasts; Otto and the very smiley night porter (who's name I can't remember) who helped get my camera back which I'd left at a restaurant, to Abdu who took us on a fabulous day trip which I can't recommend enough, with the 'walk' to the waterfalls being a highlight - be sur to take some good footwear!! The souks, restaurants and people were all fabulous and I would definitely go back again!! Cannot recommend enough!

Room Tip: We had the Khissima Suite which had it's own personal staircase but think all rooms would be lov...

I had decided to surprise my girlfriend with an early Valentines surprise trip.

I chose Dar Charkia on the recommendation of some friends, we were there for 4 glorious days in the first week in Februaryand had a wonderful time.

The attention to detail at the riad is incredible and the owners Michael and Lisa are really really helpful; Their well trained staff cannot do enough for you but also know when to stand back and leave you in peace. The riad is spotlessly clean and very well looked after.

There is a lot of love there!

We stayed in the Sahara double suit on the 1st floor gallery overlooking the lovely courtyard with orange tree.

Breakfasts were fabulous and you could have it anytime of day! Having arrived on a very late flight we had breakfast the first morning on the roof terrace at around midday!

Our room was very stylish and very spacious with a safe for our valuables.

We loved our time at Dar Charkia and it was a welcome oasis at the end of each busy day in this hectic town. Restaurant, spa, daytrip recommendations were all spot on.

We loved our trip and will be back and there is only one place we will stay - DAR CHARKIA.

Room Tip: Lisa & Michael Really know their stuff!
