“Simple, sweet and nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

We stayed in Dar Maia in June2012. Booked 2 rooms upstairs, 1 for us and the other one for the kids. Room was clean, the decor-simple and nice. We luv the beautiful courtyard and the kids loves their pet turtle 'Emmanuella'. The place is very near to Djemaa El Fna and other tourist spots in Marrakech, only about 5 mins walk from the Riad. Imane-the manager has been very helpful, she arranged for a taxi driver to fetch us at the train station. She speaks good English and very friendly too!. The way out to Djemaa El Fna cud be very confusing for the first timer but after a short familiarization trip by Yassin-the staff at Dar Maia, it was a breeze. It was a wonderful stay here plus the price is good for budget travelers like us.

“Simple and friendly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

My friend and I stayed in the blue room at this riad in late December 2011 and after being led through a maze of streets (and worried that we couldn't find our way back after we left!), we were welcomed into this friendly, clean, and quiet riad. The three staff members that we met were all amazingly helpful and friendly, though at the time only one spoke english. If you have rudimentary french, you'll do just fine. The room is on the second floor with windows that overlooked the courtyard and we didn't have any issues with noise from the other guests. However, be warned that there is a curtain instead of a door to the bathroom so unless you're really comfortable with your travel partner, you may need to respectfully leave the room at certain points of the day! Good thing there's a roof deck, which is also a nice quiet place to have breakfast (simple but delicious!) and to rest between exploring the medina. There are no views as the surrouding buildings are all about the same height. The location is great because it is between Djema el-Fna and the sites to the south (Badi Palace, Saadian Tombs, etc) which allows for a stopover during sight seeing. We had arranged for a driver to pick us up and when the driver reached the furthest point he could go, a second person was waiting to help us with our bags and to lead us by foot to the riad.

Overall we felt very well cared for without feeling smothered and I would definitely recommend this riad!

“Good Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012

We chose this Riad because a friend recommended it and was ok. The location was really really good, about 10 minutes walking to the Djema el Fna square, it was very easy go everywhere by walking from here.
We were in the cheapest room and was clearly the cheapest. Located in the groung floor althought there was no noise at all there was impossible to open the window to get some light. The room was ok but bathroom was awful, some kind of really small cubicle inside the room with no door (just a shower curtain). I think should be really easy to improve it and have a decent one.
The breakfast was served in the roof terrace and was ok, nothing compared with the others we had in all the riads we went but was good.
People who run the Riad was absolutely friendly, trying to do everything to made our stay in Marakesh as pleasent as possible.
Although this Riad was no a bad choice I will recommend to look other options in the area, there are thousands of better places to stay.

Room Tip: Don´t choose the cheapest room

“Really nice simple Riad.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

A lovely way to land in Morocco again after a few years absence. Booked one night on the web so I had somewhere to stay first night while I found my feet, and booked another night. Friendly, calm, pretty little place with nice simple rooms and functional plumbing! Good roof terrace. Tricky to find, you will need a cabbie or a guide!

“Magic in Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

We stayed in the Riad dar Mar from 21-24 February 2012. The Riad dar Maia was everything the web-site had led us to expect - and more. From the initial welcome - complete with glasses of mint tea and the detailed information about what we were recommended to see in Marrakech - nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and we were made to feel as if we were in our own home. After the maelstrom that is Marrakech - the medina and the souk - the riad was an immaculate haven of peace and tranquility. The traditional Moroccan decoration and features were inspiring. We were lucky to be able to enjoy the roof-top terrace - both to sit and relax and watch the sun-set and for the more than generous breakfast that set us both up for the day.

We would have no hesitation in recommending the Riad dar Maia to any friend visiting Marrakech and - should we return - we would return here without a moment's hesitation. If it was possible to give 11 out of 10 we would.

If required to rate the Riad dar Maia it would be as follows:

Cleanliness of the rooms 10
Quietness of the rooms 10
Spaciousness of the rooms 10
Quality of service 10
Hotel surroundings 10
