“A calm oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2009

We stayed in the Riad Dar Anika after spending a few days walking in the Atlas mountains. We got a wonderful welcome from Nigel and Diane, who immediately made us feel at home.

We had a suite on the upper floor which was very spacious, with a good sized bathroom.

The breakfasts were good, with fresh juice and great French style bread (which was a treat surprisingly after a few days of arab bread). The weather was perfect to have breakfast on the roof terrace. We had a lunch a couple of times, which was also very good.

You can dine at the hotel, although you have to make your choice of dishes at lunch time. This tends to mean that the dining room is not very heavily used and so there's not much atmosphere, although the food is very good. Also, certainly while we were there, the wine supply was a bit haphazard, with none of the wines on the wine list available.

The position of the riad is great and you walk straight out of the door into a busy, but not too touristy, shopping street. It's an easy walk to all the main tourist sites.

Nigel and Diane are always ready to help with restaurant recommendations and booking and will tell you all the best places to shop.

All in all, a great place to stay.

My fabulous friends surprised with a long weekend in Marrakesh for my hen party and i was really impressed with their choice of Riad. Diane, Nigel and their colleagues at Dar Anika made sure our group of 10 relaxed from the moment we arrived - mint tea and fresh orange juice on arrival, saving us from the self-appointed porters(!), arranging cabs and a tour guide, and of course the breakfasts on the sunny roof terrace. The personal touches they added really made the weekend. I would unreservedly recommend this Riad to everyone - groups and couples alike. I'm already thinking of going back with my new husband!

Marrakech is hectic, noisy, colourful, loud and teeming with people, donkey carts, hand carts and mopeds.
What more could you want then than to step through a carved door (smiling at the mint seller permanently pitched outside) into an oasis where your every need is met immediately but discreetly. Where breakfast is served on the roof terrace while you watch the storks re -building their nest each day on the top of the mosque tower while listening to the muezzin calling the faithful to prayer. Where after breakfast you can go for a dip in the pool situated in the internal courtyard and gaze up at the ornate ceilings and North African patterns. Where you can both retire to the private Hamman and enjoy its indulgent pleasures. Where as night falls the riad turns into a candlelit wonderland when staff appear as if by magic should you need anything and bring you drinks once more on the roof terrace but this time you are lounging on immense sofas under a tented roof.
What more could you want? Oh yes, an English couple who felt like your best friends by the end of the holiday. Nothing was too much trouble for Di and Nigel: computers, medicines and advice were proffered immediately along with companionable chats.
We wanted a week’s break that gave us some winter sun, plenty of rest but some local colour as well. This fitted the bill perfectly and our enormous thanks to every single member of staff who took so much trouble over us: to Salah, who rustled up a meal for us when we arrived late(and served it with linen napkins and all the other silver service niceties); to the manager Nourdine, who got us a guide, helped us with our room safe and immediately fixed a light for me, to the cleaners, who were discreet and never tried to come in our room unless they were certain we would not be using it, to Mohammed, who served our breakfast and practised his English on us, to the cook, who made such beautiful meals (we had rose petals scattered over the table for our last dinner) and of course to Di and Nigel, who made it all possible.
We are already recommending Dar Anika to anyone who will listen.

We have just come back from 5 days in Marrakech and Dar Anika was everything we wish for in a hotel. Nigel and Diane, as well as Noureddin and all the staff, couldn’t have been more pleasant, helpful, reliable and easy to get on with. The hotel is beautiful and its location is excellent, just off a small busy square and on a street that leads straight to the main square.

Marrakech itself is a must-visit. It has several beautiful 12th to late 19th century buildings that show off splendidly the development of the sometimes dazzlingly rich style of Muslim decoration in stucco, marble, carved wood and ceramics. We also greatly enjoyed the extensive and fascinating markets, the streets of the large old town (medina) and the stunning activity on Djema-el-Fna, pulling you into another world. The people are genuinely friendly. We never felt unsafe anywhere (and we got around).

It was also great to be able to rely on a genuinely friendly welcome, and willingness to attend to anything we might need, literally every time we went through the door at Dar Anika, at whatever hour. The complimentary private transfers from and to the airport were very much appreciated. Dar Anika also arranged for us a wonderful day trip to the mountains (Siti Fatma) with an excellent Berber driver/guide in a luxury car at reasonable cost. My wife particularly enjoyed the hammam experience offered in Dar Anika. All in all, highly recommendable.

A group of 10 of us went for 3 days to Marrakech and this was a fanatastic place to stay.

-They arranged a transfer to collect and drop us at the airport
-There was a warm welcome on arrival - and fresh orange juice too
-The Riad is very close to the main square
-Once inside the Riad you are in an oasis of calm
- The rooms are beautifully and individually decorated
- the roof has an amazing terrace to have breakfast on, or go up to after dark and have a drink on
- The staff were ever friendly and helpful - from helping us change money into smaller notes, to arranging a tour guide to show us round.
- The Hamam was charming and you can either do it yourself or have someone pamper you.

It was perfect for us and I'd definitely return on my next trip!

If you bring a little book light, and if the Riad can install some electric towel warmers, you will feel you have landed in Paradise. Although the hotel is elegant, quiet, comfortable and peaceful, it is really Diane, Nigel and their staff who tip this place over the top. And although they are somehow completely unobtrusive about it, your wish is their command! These are folks who will give you the change from their pockets to buy postcards, who will give you STACKS of their own personal music collection to enjoy, and I do believe that Nigel would give you the shirt off his back if you requested it. We were five friends and colleagues traveling together for a short break before buckling down to work in Casablanca. This was the perfect choice, because our hosts made it possible to do so much in two short days. Four of these folks have been virtually everywhere, stayed in some of the world's best hotels... but it was unanimous: in Marrakech, you must stay with Nigel and Diane at Riad Dar Anika.

A short but great trip despite having the worst weather in several decades!! This did not detract from the whole experience - plenty to do and lots of cosy places to eat and drink.
The welcome and service offered by the Riad were great - Di and Nigel and their team have got it just right, incredibly helpful and friendly but not in your face. We were slightly limited with what we could do due to the impending birth on child No.2 but I know that Di and Nigel were full of recommendations about places to go outside of the City and spectacular walks to take in (maybe next time!). Nothing was too much trouble - recommending and booking restaurants, helpful tips about where to go in the Souks and generally offering any assistance they could.
The Riad is in a fantastic location - at the end of a fascinating road which leads directly to the main square and also with some great restaurants and bars right ont he doorstep - higly recommend La Tanjia and the Kosy Bar - great food and lovely open fire to relax in front of (given our weather conditions this was most welcome!).
If we were to go back to Marrakech I would not think twice about staying at Dar Anika again.
