“Lovely hotel and good value for moneyn but very poor food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Room nice, quiet and very clean. Linen spotless. Hotel and garden area very nice. Swiming pool lovely but PRETTY COLD!!! Reception staff good. Food in a la carte restaurant of poor quality, small portions and expensive. Eat out! The breakfasts were a fiasco! Staff had no clue, food was of poor quality, not a lot of choice, no fresh fruit or yoghurts, not replenished very frequently, the queue for the crepes was long and boring - the lady had a frying pan cooking only 4 crepes at once! The whole breakfast experience was not pleasant but in general the visit was enjoyable and good value for money.

We stayed here for one night on the first day of our tour although it was not the one specified as that had a festival on or something and we were booked in here. The room and bed were fine although a lousy balcony view which didn't matter for one day, the pool area and gardens were great. (It was the only one of six we stayed in that had gardens).
Didn't fancy the main restaurant so we tried the Italian which was ok but as with nearly every hotel meal we had, was just warm and very expensive drinks. Breakfast was standard continental style but nothing special.
The hotel is not near the centre so I taxi is needed but can be walked on a cool day.
Staff were indifferent and the décor a little tired but still better than most of the other hotels on our tour.

Was a bit nervous having read other reviews but was very pleasantly surprised by the Golden Tulip. Staff were very friendly and helpful and our room looking over the pool couldn't be faulted, being clean with no problems. Just a few minor issues - when more than 1 person is checking in, it would be useful to have more than one receptionist checking guests in; more fruit at breakfast please ... and a heated pool would be appreciated (it was BALTIC!!). Being half board, we were able to try all the restaurants - and being vegetarian, I was very pleasantly surprised by the choice. Main complaint - no English speaking news channel available - but maybe it's nice to get a break from the world's bad news. All in all, value for money - and yes, I would return!

This hotel is extraordinarily well-designed, but isn't run with half the same attention to detail.

Travelling as a family of four, we stayed in a lovely bungalow overlooking the pool. There was a palm tree outside the patio and little paths leading to and from the main areas. There are two pools, one just right for my 4-year-old and one that was deeper - watch out though, neither of them were heated - and loads of sunloungers you can pull up to wherever you want. There's also some grass where impromptu games of multi-cultural hide-and-seek and tag took place. I can't recommend the whole pool complex highly enough.

But when we arrived, the bungalow hadn't been cleaned. So we asked to be moved to another room, (which they assured us had been), but it was in an even worse state. The cleaning ladies (who speak fluent French) did eventually turn up to clean the first room. But we had to ask them three times to get the bedding right. My four-year-old didn't take kindly to being offered a cot, for example. But eventually, they got it right. One other thing - the electricity was down in the main bedroom, so a man came to fix it (very quickly!), which he did by shoving some paper into the fuse box!

The breakfasts were good - I did see them replenishing some dishes, unlike other reviewers. We tried to order lunch on our last day - the waiter took our order at 12, but then when I went to chase it up at 12.25, I got told it wouldn't be ready till 12.45 at the earliest as the kitchen didn't open till 12.30. It would have been expensive too!

Given the quality of service, we did begrudge the price of our stay. But the pool was a brilliant oasis away from the madness of the medina.

Room Tip: I'd recommend the bungalows.

Definitely not a 4 star hotel..best 1 star
i went there for my hen night from 29th March to 01st April 2013. The staff at the door was really nice. But the cleaners and the receptionist women were just appalling. first our room didn't have towels, then there was no remote which we asked for 2 times. The 3rd time they told us the hotel was full so there was no remote available. There was no fridge in the room, the toilet sink was dirty when we got there whereas the room was supposed to have been cleaned. We requested someone to come and clean it but they never did it.
In the morning the cleaners push the chairs instead of lifting them. Hence you can hear everything happening next door when they clean.
The orange juice they offer with the breakfast is more like an orange powder mix with water.. better order fresh fruits than drinking this "orange juice".
You have to request everything there to have a decent sleep..

Good point: The staff is really nice, the breakfast was OK.

Room Tip: Do go for room 22x

We stayed for 6 nights at the Golden Tulip Farah from 25th -30th March it cost us £244 for a twin room with a garden view for 2 people BB and around £500 each for the flights. Its and cheap price and the saying goes you get what you pay for. I wouldn't rate this a 4 star hotel more like a 2 star. I will begin by pointing out the positives. The staff are generally very friendly warm and attentive. If you ask them they will book restaurants on your behalf ect There is a pool and sun loungers and you do get breakfast included in the price and you get a bed shower television and your own toilet shower. It is also a fantastic location very close to the airport and Medina and other hot spots.
Now to the negative points - The lifts are tired and old and need fixing. The carpet on the 3rd floor is disgusting stained and dirty. The white bed linen they provided me with was stained and the duvet covers are old tired with fluff and bits. The cleanliness of the rooms was below standard. The cleaners came every morning to rearrange our belongings rather than clean. They don't change the bed linen. I resorted to putting mine in the bathroom and throwing water on it to ensure that i would get new bed linen but it was always stained somewhere so made no real difference. The television is basic with 1 British channel and then BBC world news. There was no remote for the television. The room is very basic so don't raise your hopes. There was no working wifi or computers for the duration of our stay. They had technical problems. I found this rather inconvenient we had to resort to going to the hotel next door (Kenzi) to use the managers office to search for Hamman spas in the area. The hotel breakfast was very basic if not dire! The highlight of the breakfast was the lady making pancakes. However, she was not there every day and once she had run out of mixture that was it. Breakfast is served from 6.30am 10.30am food should be provided like promised during those hours. But it was more like first come first serve and some days certain foods were just not there. There was no consistency. The eggs were cold and looked sloppy, the potatoes were cold. The cheese if they had any tasted like rubber. The fruit and pastries were decent. The hotel don't upsell their services at all. We had to ask about trips and certain services. We went to the Atlas mountains through the hotel and that was fantastic! Bring plenty of money because there are things to buy everywhere. You can get private drivers to the mountains a lot cheaper than the hotel. 400 Ds for 2 people was one quote we had but we had already done the trip and we liked the fact we were with other tourists.
Visit the Medina its very intense busy and dusty but there are some really nice restaurants overlooking the Medina. We paid 50 Ds but you can get a taxi there for 20-30D we just couldn't be bothered with haggling.
There are also plenty of really nice restaurants close to the hotel some places are a bit pricey but if you want to treat yourself then you will find it really good value.
Do visit an Hamman spa outside of the hotel. We went to Les Bains De L'alhambra we had a facial a scrub wash foot rub and full body massage and steam for £55 each or 550d. It was the most relaxing experience I have ever had. Its worth a visit!

Overall we had an amazing time in Marrakesh. Its a brilliant vibrant place full of culture and history. I will write a separate review for each place we visited.
