“A wonderful first stay in Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2014

We travelled to Marrakech with our daughter and her boyfriend and choose Riad Monika for an authentic stay in the heart of the medina. Everything from start to finish ran like clockwork with email confirmations arranging transfers and the welcome option of a late check out before our evening flight home. We were met at the airport and taken in a very comfortable vehicle to as far as cars are able to go where someone from the Riad was waiting to welcome us and help with our bags. After a short walk we entered the beautiful, tastefully decorated riad and although it was late we were shown around and given our first of many mint teas.
Our rooms were very comfortable and staff discreetly cleaned them and the bottled water and fresh fruit were much appreciated. Breakfast on the large roof terrace was plentiful and varied with the most delicious fresh orange juice. The terrace has many luxurious seating areas where you can relax and listen to the birds.
Zouhair gave us lots of information including an annotated map and suggested routes around the medina. His list of do's and dont's were most helpful and certainly made us feel confident and eager to explore.
The pool was refreshing and whilst cooling off there one afternoon Zouhair appeared with tea and Moroccan cake.
We stayed three nights and could not fault the location, the accommodation or the service we received. Thank you so much Zouhair and team, we hope to return again one day

Having arrived after an evening flight we were picked up at the airport by our taxi driver (pre-arranged through the riad). We were driven as close to Riad Monika as possible (the road gets too narrow for cars). After a quick phone call from our driver to the riad, we were met by one of the staff who took our case and directed us to what would be our home for the next 3 nights. We were welcomed inside with mint tea and some moroccan biscuits which was lovely. Our room was equally delightful with a stunning bathroom/shower area and a beautiful bed with ornate wood carving all above it. We crashed for the night and woke up to the sound of bird song ... and took breakfast on the roof terrace (breakfast till 11.00)! Breakfast was a complete feast and included a JUG of fresh orange juice, crepes, fruit, yoghurt, egg, pastries, honey, jams, french bread and tea/coffee. The terrace itself is both well thought out and laid out, giving some privacy and also access to some nice views. There was a small pool inside the riad, although we never got round to using it, (it is only big enough to cool off in rather than doing laps in). The property is situated very well for the Medina shopping experience (DO NOT FOLLOW THE YOUNG LADS WHO PROMISE THEY WILL FIND YOU YOUR WAY AROUND ... THEY ARE AFTER MONEY). Listen to the staff who warn you of this and if you get lost or need directions/help when out, ask someone in a shop. French is very beneficial for Morocco, even if it is just a smattering of holiday lingo. The staff in Riad Monika are extremely helpful and will arrange as much as is humanly possible from taxis, to trips to restaurant recommendations and more; they speak French and a little English and are very courteous. We would not hesitate either returning or recommending Riad Monika.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely.

We stayed here for 4 nights in April, and we could not be happier with our riad choice. We were picked up from the airport and guided through the busy streets to the riad by Zouhair. He really made our stay so enjoyable - customer service at its best!

The riad itself is beautiful with a roof terrace. We stayed in Najima, and we were happy with the room. I see the comments about being woken up by morning prayer as the riad is very close to Ben Youssef Mosque, however I think this is the same wherever you stay in the Medina. We embraced it as part of our Marrakech experience.

The riad was very close to Le Fondouk, which we missed out on trying as it was fully booked for our whole stay. We would have made a booking here one night if we had realized how close it was to the riad.

Whilst the riad is beautiful, it really was the customer service that made this trip amazing. Zouhair kindly organized a trip to the mountains and gave us great tips regarding sights and restaurants. We can recommend this riad to anyone.

Together with a group of friends (4 families with children) we rented Riad Monika for a few days in April. It was an amazing stay with staff most welcoming and accomodating. Roof terrace was perfect for relaxing in the evenings, the pool was great for cooling down after somewhat intense walks around the medina. Every room and suite is beautiful and unique. In addition to the rooms there is a library and lots of quiet spaces to relax. The kids loved it as much as the adults did. Delicious breakfast, Moroccan tea at arrival, fresh water and fruit in the rooms daily, very comfortable beds and attention to detail in decoration. We would highly recommend Riad Monika to visitors to Marrakech.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are more comfortable during the hotter months

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

We stayed at the Riad Monika for 4 nights at the beginning of March and can highly recommend it as the perfect place to stay in Marrakech.

We were met at the airport by a man with a Riad Monika sign after I contacted the owner for a transfer. The trip to the Riad was easy and stress-free. Zoohair (apologies if I've spelt that wrong) was very welcoming, sat down with us when we arrived to talk about the Souks, the local area and provided us with a very refreshing drink of mint tea. He was constantly helpful throughout our stay recommending places to eat, advising us on the prices for taxi rides (be prepared to haggle) and generally answering any of our varied questions.

The Riad is simply beautiful. Four houses were bought and combined to make the Riad by a French Architect and he's done a wonderful job of restoring them. It's a tranquil oasis amidst the hectic nature of the Souks. The pool is gorgeous, there's fountains and exquisite Moroccan tiles, a library and a sumptuous roof terrace perfect for lounging in the sun.

Breakfast was included and served on the roof terrace. Delicious coffee and pastries, eggs, pancakes and honey, all manner of tasty breads and it was a great start to the day.

The staff helped us with our trips and all transactions were easy. The Riad is close enough to the Souks to walk (5/10 minutes) to the main square (10/15) minutes and all the places you'd like to visit whilst feeling safe and clean.

We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this Riad to anyone visiting Marrakech.

we stayed a couple of nights in this beautiful riad, room Farhana.
built and restored by a french architect, the riad shows the marroccon architecture and decoration at it's best. the rooms are just what you see on the website and photos. romantic and clean. extremely friendly staff, nice breakfast and any help you need.
fresh fruit an water every day in your room and they put heating in your room when it's cold and light the open fire place in the sitting area and serve mint tea. hospitality is written in their mind set.

small minus: old TV, but probably you will not look that often when discovering marrakech.

Riad Monika is a real isle of peace in the hassle of the city. beautiful roof terrace.
it's only 15 min walk to the square El Fna.

best choice! worth the money.

Big riad, located in a nice building, the area is safe and located close to taxi stop. We had a suit which was very big however it was quite cold (we stayed for NYE) and generally there is no heating in Marrakesh, however we had chimney in the room. In the summer time, this riad must be perfect. The only thing that should be improved is cleaning, it was quite dirty everywhere. It could be also cheaper but I imagine the price depends on period when you are staying. I would recommend it to all couples, the place is quite romantic.
