“Delightful!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

We spent 3 nights in Marrakech at the Riad Dar Silsila on our honeymoon and it was absolutely magical. After following a narrow, unpaved, alleyway (common for the Medina) we were happily greeted by the lovely Mohammed and stepped into what felt like a sanctuary. The Riad is stunning...tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Not to mention the food is great...from the tagine dinners to the delicious breakfasts on the sunny terrace. Jean Patrick and his staff could not be more welcoming or gracious and we loved every second there!

This riad is located a short walk from the Jemma El Fnaa square. It is set back off the main street. I would advise that you set up transportation with Jean Patrick, your host, as to find it on your own would be challenging.

The riad is just as pictured as well as the rooms. Clean and comfortable with accommodating staff. The rooftop area is a nice place to have tea or drinks and unwind from the hectic day of museums and souk bartering. There is a spa located on the top floor with massage services available.

As soon as I walked in Jean Patrick gave advice and a map as to what and where I wanted to see based on my time schedule and a cup of tea. If there was anything I needed from restaurant advice to transportation advice Jean Patrick did all he could to help with the details.

The room was clean and the bathroom functional. The bed was comfortable and the sleep was quiet and restful. There is lockbox in the the room as well as plenty of closet space. The aircon was sufficient for heating purposes on the cool early Spring nights.

The general area was tasteful decorated and promoted a relaxed atmosphere. From here you can play one of the small games in the room such as chess or checkers, sit and read a book, or relax with your friends with a bottle of wine.

The breakfast is continental. It is a bit light but sufficient to get you started through the day.

The one downside to this location is the entrance way from the street. As safe and as well lit as the area was you have to go back through a windy alley that has a small tunnel. I was a little apprehensive at first.

Getting to this very special riad is half the fun! Hidden away in the medina, but very easy to find all the same, you wind your way through a few ancient, narrow residential streets and there it is. The door swings open and you are warmly greeted and welcomed into this beautifully restored and tranquil riad.

We stayed in the terrace suite and loved it. We enjoyed amazing views and our lovely suite was spacious, comfortable and beautifully appointed.

The owner, Jean Patric, was traveling and not in residence during our stay. But he called when we arrived to greet us and offer the hospitality of his riad. (We met him as we were departing so only had the opportunity to say thank you and bon voyage on our last day.) Mohammed and the other staff members were gracious and accommodating, always available to help with whatever we needed and took excellent care of us in his absence.

Marrakesh is a hurly burly kind of town so having the oasis of Dar Silsila to come back to at the end of the day earns this riad our highest recommendation. When in Marrakesh, this is the place to stay.

We are just home after two weeks in Morocco, a fantastic trip. We stayed 4 nights in Marrakech at a Riad I found on the web, Riad Dar Silsila, and I was happy to find it exactly the type of place I hoped it would be, and exactly as it looks on the web - only better. Rooms are truly lovely, furnished very comfortably and beautifully. I loved the mosaics in the bathrooms and the fountain tinkling outside the door. One thing you do want in Marrakech is a roof terrace, and the one at Dar Silsila is magical. Not just a few chairs on a roof, but lounges surrounded by a pretty green roof garden with roses and aromatic plants. Jean-Patrick also organized a meal for us at the Riad, a reasonable price and high quality for 3 courses, including tajines, but the breakfasts were a fun surprise. One morning we had freshly made yogurt, next day it was different melons, and one morning the sweetest red strawberries made into a little compote - breakfast here was the best we had in Morocco and we ate so many morning pancakes we didn't need much lunch.

But in the end, for travellers, it all comes down to the staff and whether you feel they are looking after you or just putting up with you. Jean-Patrick is the owner, who came to meet us the first day and made sure we had anything we wanted, and it seemed like charming Mohammed was always around when we needed him. Nothing was too much trouble and they both gave us a lovely farewell as if we'd been friends for years instead of visitors for a few days. I can recommend a stay of 3 or 4 nights in Marrakech if you really want to get a bit of a feel for this pulsating city, and I thoroughly recommend Dar Silsila. www.darsilsila.com.

We have just returned from this beautiful Riad which really is a haven of peace in a very buzzy city. Jean Patrick and his attentive staff made our stay delightful and they went out of their way to ensure that we had everything we wanted. Jean Patrick gave us some great recommendations for restaurants and was very helpful in suggesting itineraries. A great Riad which we would certainly recommend.

My partner and I stayed for four nights in mid-March and our decision to pick Dar Silsila for our accommodations was probably the best decision of the trip. The riad is beautifully decorated, the staff was attentive but not intrusive, and the Owner, Jean-Partick, couldn't have been more charming or helpful, providing "insider" tips on where to go and what to do. I can whole-heartedly recommend Dar Silsila for a true Moroccan experience and look forward to staying there again on my next trip to Morocco, which I am already planning.

If you want the full Marrakech experience, this is your place. The riad is tucked away in a seemingly dark and suspicious alley (dont worry it's safe) which leads to the small nondescript door. Once inside, it opens up to a beautiful courtyard in the building. The owner (Jean Patrick) and staff (Salame) are fantastic and a great help. The location is unbeatable and easy access to everything in the Medina. I would also recommend a night to unwind after the chaos of the medina with a haman/massage and dinner cooked by the staff - both were incredible.
