“Amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Great location, great hosts, great hotel ! We had a super nice and comfortable room on the first floor for two nights. The room was very nice and warm and the bathroom looked awesome with an oriental style. The terrasse we had breakfast on was great and allows for great day starts. The hotel is five minutes away from Jemaa El Fnaa yet at the end of a tiny little street so the whole place is extremely calm. The patios beautiful with a sort of jacuzzi inside and Pierre-Olivier makes a fire in the chemney at night during winter so it makes the whole place very cozy. He was very available to recommend multiple things and very friendly which we appreciated very much.
The only thing that could be improved is the fact the rooms are all around the patio which means you hear what is happening downstairs from time to time but the hotel being relatively small (I think there are only 8 rooms) makes it very calm anyhow.
We highly recommend this place.

Background:
Okay, we booked a suite in the Riad next door (we do not even want to name it) to Casa Lalla. On arrival, at 10pm at night, we were informed that due to error by the Management the place was overbooked. The night Manager attributed the error to the day Manager and the day Manager on the night Manager next day). So, instead we were to stay for one night in Casa Lalla. I have to add this was not established easily due to language difficulty; however, the night reception staff contacted Pierre, the Casa Lalla Manager, who explained on the phone the situation in plain and fluent English. To cut a very long story (nightmare) short, we had to stay in Casa Lalla for 3 out of the 5 nights we had planned to stay in Marrakesh.

So this is the review on Casa Lalla.
Pierre whom we met several times was/is an excellent and pleasant host. Equally great, always nearby, were the staff and they were always helpful. Being vegetarians Breakfast was great. We took our own “Masala” tea and hot was provided unlimited times at any time of the day and night. Terrace was great, where we would read and relax after a full day out and about. The whole Riad exuded pleasantness.

The only downside was the room that was allocated to us, at a very short notice (see background above). It was not ideal and on two levels with the bed on the upper level and the bathroom/toilet on the ground floor; not ideal when you need to “go” in the middle of the night, you have to switch on the light and tread down the stone stairs carefully. All the other rooms ware occupied.

On the whole, next time if we ever go to Marrakesh, Casa Lalla would be our choice of the Riad to stay in. Thanks Pierre.

Room Tip: Any other room but not the one with the split level. See our remarks above

After reading the reviews I was quite confident about staying at casa Lalla. We had arranged for an Airport transfer which was waiting for us at arival. We were picked up by a normal taxi car and dropped off around a 4-5 minute walk from the riad, (the streets are too small for any car to drive through). Our luggage was taken to the riad by a local in what looks like a modified wheelbarrow, completely safe i must add.
The room was lovely, tastefully decorated as was the whole riad, we had the suit. The riad is very cosy, the sound does resonate as in any enclosed space. there is a small pool with a powerfull jacuzzi in the courtyard but the water is not heated, its around 21 degress which seems cold at first but your body soons adapts.
Breakfast is served on the terrace, the selection could be better and a variety would also be welcome, we had fresh orange juice, some bread, pancake, and a spread, Personally I think eggs would have been a good addition. Im just nit picking, it was sufficient i must add.
The staff are great, always nearby, always helpfull. We met the owner Pier who was very pleasant.
Thers no TV in the room or a kettle, we didnt really miss the TV, there is free wifi in the courtyard areas, connection did drop on the terrace at times.
Its about a comfortable five minute walk to jema el fnaa square through a couple of narrow streets which can be a little daunting at first but thats the whole charm of marrakech, besides youl be hard pressed to find a riad thats not connected by these little streets, the locals who live near the riad are wonderful and youl feel completely safe.
The square itself is mental to be fair and the riad was a refreshing retreat from the hustle and bustle.
We did not dine at the restaurant, the riad is mood lit in the evenings which gives it a great ambiance.
I woudnt say it was a family riad, saying that I stayed with my wife and 6 month old child, so believe me when I say sound does resonate! Still, I would go back for sure, highly recommended.

The riad is damp with mould growing on the walls. The rooms are tiny, the bathroom is painted dark brown and is unpleasant. No TV, wifi did not work. Pretentious French owner appeared briefly to provide uncorrect information. His staff was trying to do a good job. No choice for dinner. Small portions, terribly overstated and overpriced, cheap house wine at a high price. It is incomprehensible how this could possibly advertise as Best Moroccon restaurant. We had much better tastier food in many other places on our trip. We paid cash in dirham and were hit with a surcharge of 4%, unheard of before. Certainly not to be recommended.

From check in to check out the staff was great and facilities were spotless. From the helpful tipsfor things to do and not do in Marrakech to the cleanliness, there's obvious pride from the owners and staff. All for a good value close to everything.

The beautifully restored riad was a welcome retreat. Moroccan mint tea and cookies served in front of a cosy fire in the late afternoon, followed by superb dining. The hosts and staff were most welcoming and helpful. Absolutely charming.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms would be the quietest.
