“Fantastic value for money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

The staff were wonderful and very helpful from time we arrived. We only found the riad on booking.com at last minute for a stop over on our way to the coast but would of loved to stay longer.

The downstairs reception rooms, lounges and bedrooms were stunning authentic Moroccan style and very spacious.
As we arrived late we were unsure if we could get food however they were more than happy to accommodate and put on a lovely meal of salad and tajine.
On leaving the riad, we asked for directions to bus station and they were brilliant with giving us information about the streets, who to ask if we got lost and what to watch out for.
I would extremely recommend this for those looking for a quiet escape from the busy Marrakech streets and who aren't looking for the typical western style hotels and instead a more traditional Moroccan style.

I'd describe this Riad as a sparkling gem hidden (somewhere) in the middle of the medina. We spent a week in this riad and was very happy with our stay. The staff were very helpful, friendly and made us feel at home, such a beautiful hotel very traditional in its décor. Skalatchi (staff) was such a sweetheart we couldn't have asked for nicer staff.

We had the room at the back on the first floor. the lightening was a little dim but the room was wonderful with a huge bed, Air conditioning. Hot water when we needed it and a little fridge.

The swimming pool was not really big enough to swim in but was very nice. There are lots of sofas to lounge around on it was all very tranquil. id say this place was more for couples and defo not for small kiddies

The food was nice although it would have been better if there was more choice rather than tagine every night. The breakfast was (bread, eggs, pancakes) all free and very nice.

Our rooms were replaced with clean towels, soaps etc daily. Beds made daily too.
The Riad is hard to find but you can arrange with staff to collect you from where the cab drops you off. 150dhr from the airport to the riad (tried to charge us 300) . Once your there you'll see its near to everything Enjoy!!!

Fantastic gem of a place in middle of bustling streets of Medina you enter through an archway into this oasis of antique Moroccan style. Lovely, spacious, exotically styled bedrooms with beautiful bathroom. Beautiful dining area beside swimming pool. Lovely seating areas and sun roof terras. Great for families with kids: pool and roof terras to play, 2 steps from middle of Medina, 7 min walk to Place Jeema El Fna. Very friendly staff 24hrs. Very romantic too!

We spent a week in this riad and enjoyed every minute. Finding the riad in the souks was a great adventure.
The breakfasts were lovely.traditional morrocan breads. Eggs. Cheese.butter and jams. Fresh orange and tea or coffee. No time limit on what time you ate breakfast. Clean towels daily.
we had a suite ,this was beautiful. The bed was so comfortable.
The staff were discreet but available if needed. Very friendly and helpful. We were given a map and directions to where we wabted to go and also tips which places to visit.
We will visit this riad again.

This is a very authentic riad in a good position to explore the medina.
Fatima was more than helpful providing maps, taxi etc.
If your looking for luxury this is not the place for you, but if you want to taste a bit of old charm give it a go. This is a very basic B&B and hot water is sometimes a luxury but on the plus side once we asked for the remote control for the air con, it did actually work! (not sure if the pool is habitable ) Breakfast is basic but adequate, and the staff are happy to help
.We spent 3 nights in Marrakesh before heading up to the Atlas Mts and to be honest if we had been staying in a 5 star hotel it would have been enough.
One word of advice, When you change your money in to Dirham's! make sure you get what you are expecting, don't leave without counting it!

The staff at the Riad Amssaffah are great, especially helpful is Fatima.

The communal areas of the Riad are wonderful and plentiful; perfect for chilling out from your day the city; just the kind of place I wanted to stay in whilst in Marrakech. Authentic and peaceful.

The hotel is very clean throughout. However, the bedrooms though clean, are in need of redecoration, and bathrooms of a full refurbishment. This however, did not discount the charms of the riad as a whole.

Breakfast is a basic bread and preserves buffet.

Cheers,
Jon

Having read several other reviews on this site I was nervous about staying at this Riad.

However it was a excellent old building and as such being approx 300 years old its by no means a 4 star Hotel. In fact if i was to compare it to a UK standard it is a very good B & B.

So if your after a International; Standard Hotel. Also if you have mobility problems due to where the Riad is and the steep stairs up to rooms this is not suitable.

Our Taxi dropped us off 5 mins walk away as the streets are narrow alleyways and its very difficult to get cars down .

Breakfast is very basic, just some bread rolls jams and pancakes most days with coffee and fresh Orange Juice.

Fatima is a gem thou and her map once used a few times helps you not get lost , providing you with 2 ways to get to the Main Square.

We found the night version is best and gets you to the main square in just 20 mins . Whatever happens don't ask locals for directions as they will offer to show you for free or not mention a cost. Then will demand massive sums of money off you , if you really get lost and need help then ask in a shop as they people can't generally leave there shops so can give you advice for free.

Also you will see plenty of red signs on side of buildings and if you follow theses they can lead you to the main square as sign posted.

Also make sure you haggle on all items brought in Souks as you will find many more stalls selling same items . Generally i paid 50 % of original asking price, althou you can get up to 70% of the starting price as they find it a game so lease smile and enjoy the fun art of haggling but be polite and have fun.

Another good tactic is to walk away after your last price as they more often than not call you back , if like me you fail to speak basic French then take a calculator with you so you can key in the amount of Dirhams you want to pay .

Also its a closed currency so you have to buy Dirhams there, we found thou at Stanstead Airport they offered to sell your Dirhams, please don't buy here as its a terrible rate and you only meant to take into the country a maximum of 1,000 Dirhmas into the country , this also applies when leaving morrocco.

So do all your exchanges at the Airport in Morrocco, you will need to keep your receipt and show Passport . This is very important as when you leave country you need to show proof of how much you brought into country .

All in all was a brilliant different Holiday if you can put up with loads of oily spicy food and if at a total loss this is a KFC by main square and another one in the new part of Marakech alongside a Mcdonalds.

Room Tip: Only stop here is you don't mind staying in a B & B basic standard room . Also not suitable...
