“An oasis in this vibrant city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

An oasis in this vibrant city wonderful place to stay good location do not be put off by the street this is real marrakech. Our rooms were a good size very morrican on the first floor gallery over looking the centre courtyard breakfast area. The owners Howard and Martyn and staff were very kind and helpful after one of our party had a fall. There is also a lovely roof terrace which is a good place to rest after sightseeing .I would recomend this riad and would definitely stay again

My partner and I stayed for a week and really enjoyed.
Great location, lovely retreat and very peaceful in a chaotic city.
Booked directly with riad so got a good deal. Transfer was great.
Trip organised VIA riad good value. We didn't do essouria this time but would definately recommend this over the mountains.

A Really pleasant and homely Riad! The location is approx 10 mins from the main square, but well within walking distance. The raid itself is tastefully decorated with traditional Moroccan flair, which is exactly what you want! The staff are genuinely helpful for example: drinks brought to your room, organising excursions, taxis etc all of which is done with your interest at heart.

The rooms are nicely decorated to cover a range of budgets. We stayed for 3 nights initially in a standard room and then a further 2 nights in a deluxe, which had tv, four poster style bed and some amazingly hand carved/crafted wardrobe - it's the little touches that count (Oh yeah and we got a discount for this room - bonus)!

The breakfasts are more than adequate freshly squeezed OJ (you hear them squeeze it), coffee or tea, a selection of breads and a choice from a set menu; scrambled egg and tomato, yogurt and spiced prunes, a choice of cereal's and I'm sure that's it, well that's all I can remember!

Airport transfer: you can book via the raid but honestly you don't need to bother! I think everyone panics when it comes to this stage of the holiday but I assure you when you arrive you'll more than likely appreciate the fact you won't have to play the game of "find my name on A4 laminated sheet of paper" that awaits everyone who's pre-arranged a transfer. Seriously, all you need to do is walk 30 m further and you'll have loads of taxis awaiting you-just make sure you have the address and a contact number for the Riad and you'll be fine. We paid 150 DH! Oh and when the taxi driver drops you off and says it's up the dark alleyway he's being honest! It seems a bit daunting at first for first timers to Marrakech, but just go straight up and hook a left at the top, the Riad's name is above the door!

I consider myself to be a fair when it comes to constructively criticising and reviewing hotels/raids etc and this one folks is worth it 100%.

In a great location, wonderful staff a real gem of a Riad. Martyn and Howard the owners were on hand to give advice on restaurants and places to see in Marrakech. Best tips get riad to organize airport pick up, also do try and have a meal in one evening the best we had in Marrakech.

What a delight it was staying at this great little hotel in the kasabh area of marrakech. Martyn and Howard and all there lovely staff could not have been more helpful with free maps and lots of advice etc.The Riad is clean, cosy and has a great feel to the place, the food was also delicious, as we had a meal on our first night (pre/ordered) will recommend to family and friends.

We booked a five night trip as a package which came with free transfers provided by the tour operator. On arrival we saw a person holding a sign for the riad and we introduced ourselves. We were driven to the riad with one other customer. On arrival we were immediately quizzed as to whom we had come with and informed that we had come with the wrong person (we were meant to be collected by the tour operator). Unfortunately the driver was meant to collect another two people who had not yet cleared immigration. They ended up taking a taxi which we were made to pay for. We objected to this as although we had taken the wrong transfer if this had been made clear to us at the airport this could have been easily and freely rectified at the time. The driver should have a list of names, even if he does not speak English guests can then check off their names. From what the owners told us this problem has happened on several other occasions and they have no plans for preventing its recurrence.
This spoiled things for us and is the reason for the low rating. It is a shame because I think it was great value for money. It is a riad, so it is down a short narrow alley and the rooms are dark, but if that's not what you like you should choose a modern hotel. There is a tiny but beautiful plunge pool and lovely roof terrace. The breakfasts were very good and we ate in on the first night which was nice. We didn't eat more often as there was only one vegetarian option. Our room was Jadida on the ground floor. It was a reasonable size. Its stained glass window opens into the lounge area so you can hear people eating breakfast/dinner clearly even with the shutters shut but it was quiet overnight.

I am greatly saddened and disappointed by this review as it all stems from a fact that the reviewer made an error and then chooses to blame the Riad rather than accept responsibility for their own mistakes.

YES ! Do be aware of airport transfers that are NOT booked directly through Riad Jonan !. We have never had a problem when guests book directly as we organise these transfers correctly.

Having said that, the tour companies that include transfers do give clear and precise information as to whom to meet and where to go. If only this reviewer had bothered to read the information it would had saved everyone a problem. The reviewer. an intelligent young Doctor who went to the trouble of printing out this information but could not be bothered to read it hence, caused a lot of upset for all, by not reading the clear and precise information sent to them re, looking for the relevant Representative and sign they instead just went to our driver and boarded his vehicle . Leaving the guests who booked direct without a driver. Only when they arrived at the Riad did we discover this.

Regarding the comment “Having this problem on several occasions and they have no plans for preventing its recurrence”. Over the past seven years we have
made many changes to make transfers trouble free but, we cannot control other transfer companies or indeed guests that do not read the detailed information provided to avoid such a situation.

This reviewer actually showed me the detailed information she printed off which they chose to ignore and tried to blame our driver for transporting them. Leaving our direct guests, a mother and daughter who were very distressed to find their own taxi to the Riad.
So yes, they were asked to reimburse the guests who had already paid for transport.

Yet, we went out of our way to make sure they got their free return transfer back to the airport by checking with them that the transfer company had been contacted and informed.

As for “ Only one vegetarian option” This is not true. We offer Vegetable tagine, Vegetable Rogan Josh curry, Salads and Sandwiches and vegetable couscous.

Is this a fair review considering the above? The reader must judge for themselves.
