“Le Caspien Hotel - Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

After reading some of the reviews we were a little worried about what to expect. My boyfriend and Had a groupon voucher and it was excellent value for money. the rooms are fine clean and the air con is great after a long day out (weather was very very hot). Staff are very friendly and helpful and the decor is nice. The pool is small but great to cool off and dabble your feet. My boyfriend loved the breakfast, not to everyone's taste but it suited us. the coffee and fresh orange were very nice. We had dinner here the first night and it was very nice.

no complaints and we liked the area.

Clean, comfortable hotel; well maintained rooms have air conditioning and a television, both of which were very welcome. Moroccan decor which we really liked. Buffet style continental breakfast. Helpful staff.
The pool was disappointing, it is so small, with room for only 4 sun loungers.
The Djemaa el fna is not within comfortable walking distance (and I am no slouch); taxi or bus required.

After reading reviews on here before we flew out to Marrakech we were a bit worried however we found the hotel to be lovely, we were 2 couples staying here for 2 weeks in August (16/8/12 - 30/8/12) The hotel is very clean, rooms cleaned daily with fresh towels etc provided, air contioning was amazing after a hot day out, TV with only one english channel (CNN) so after 2 weeks we were all very clued up about the world haha! ....the staff work so hard and very long hours and are always friendly and willing to help with anything. On the last few days my sister got ill however the staff let us keep her room longer on check out day with no extra cost, and the waiting staff were very helpfull taking her food/drinks up to the room. The food was amazing, breakfast is served in a moroccan style room which has fresh orange juice, hot drinks, pastries, fresh bread, their version of scrabbled egg, pancakes, fruit and yoghurts. Lunch and dinner are both 3 course meals with a choice of 3 options for each. (we were full board)

The swimming pool isnt as small as we thought it would be after reading reviews on here but it isnt big, and because of the angle of the building it only gets the sun until about 2pm but there is a roof terrace on the top of the hotel which has a few sun loungers we sunbathed up there a few times however it got very hot up there. The hotel is in the new town, its about a 30min walk to the old town which is pretty much a straight line so cant really get lost (be careful for people saying they will show you the way as they take you to their friends shop and try charge you for being a tour guide). Even though we had a good trip mainly due to the hotel i wouldn't return to Marrakech but i would highly recommend this hotel, we experienced no problems here. On our check-out day we were told we had to pay our taxes which we had no idea about (due to who we booked the holiday through not the hotel's fault) So remember to keep some money behind for the end of the stay. It wasn't much about 11 dirhams per day (about 80p)

My boyfriend and I had booked three nights at this hotel through Groupon. The room was clean, comfortable with air conditioning. It didn't make you think 'wow' when you walked in, but for the money we had paid, it was pretty good. The staff were generally friendly and helpful, especially the lovely lady on reception who sorted out a trip to the desert for us (wouldn't do that again though!), It was nice to have a pool, but if you are looking for somewhere to bask in the sunshine all day, this is not the place for you as the sun disappears behind the building at around 1pm. The location of the hotel is not great as it's a good half an hour walk to the main square. there is not a great selection of places to see or things to visit around the hotel. Although we had booked three nights, we actually didn't return for our last two as we found a riad close to the medina that offered all of the things that this hotel doesn't.

The good: The decor was fine, bed worked, pool was decent enough, a/c worked also.

The bad: Unfortunately the included breakfast (probably one thing in particular we are not sure what) has given many people in our group the worst case of poisining we've ever had. The room in which it was served was not air conditioned, very hot and clammy, and the staff were disorganised. This same group spent a bit under a week in morocco eating all over the place without any issues whatsoever. When you can eat in the street all sorts of things without any problems you'd certainly think your hotel would be able to avoid poor food handling, this apparently is not a priority here however it is not something that can be forgiven - many thousands have been spent on our holidays and this error is ruining them.

I surrendered an open bottle of vodka at the end of my stay to the staff (for personal use) they seemed to think it might be used in the bar - I was shocked at this. When we were a the pool a few people in our group were bought fresh beers that they did not order - the staff tried to use confusion as a reason that we ordered them, then pressured us into signing the bills - not impressed - they did this a few times to the same people.

Getting a lot of our group sick for nearly a week ongoing now with chronic sickness (we felt it within a half hour after eating) isn't something that will recover this hotel from such an awful rating, and many of us left the country immediately after - you can't blame moroccan food anymore!

A group of us visited the hotel in early May and given that it was a cheap deal, it was ok.
The bedroom was a good size and a balcony overlooked the plunge pool ( you really couldn't call it a swimming pool). It had a good size bathroom, rather dated and when I went to use the shower, all the water came out of the hose rather than the shower head. A quick trip to reception and it was replaced within hours.
It was roughly a 30 minute walk to the markets and evening dining, basically a straight line so it was hard to get lost.
What really let the hotel down was the staff. I waited 7 minutes one evening at the bar trying to get a drink. No there wasn't a queue, just 4 staff behind the bar having a good chat. I gave up and went elsewhere instead.
Breakfast was the worst. As I didn't eat bread or cakes, it left very little else. I asked for hot water and a banana...you would think I had asked for caviar. 10 minutes later the water arrived and no they didn't have any bananas. The waiting staff either avoided everyone by hiding in the kitchen or putting on the most miserable faces you could imagine.

We were slightly worried before arriving at this hotel as there are a few bad reviews on here from previous travellers, however we were pleasantly suprised!

On arrival we were greeted with a friendly waiter who provided mint tea and pastries, and we were also allowed to check in to our room an hour before check in which was great. The room we were given was fine apart from we were not happy with the view (front facing), we asked if we could change rooms so we have a view of the pool and this was done with no problem.

All in all we were happy with our room, it was very clean and eveything in working order. The bathroom is a little on the small side but this did not bother us. Fresh towels were provided everyday. All rooms have a traditional moroccan feeling to them with the lovely floor tiling. We also had a balcony overlooking the pool area which is a nice view. You do tend to hear the prater call at 4am but I quite liked it!

The only real shame is the pool is tiny, there are only 4 sunbeds so you don't really have much chance of getting one! And the pool area is also the restaurant area so you feel a bit on show at the pool.

All the waiters and staff including the manager are extremely friendly and will try and assist you with anything you need. The manager helped us with directions on a few ocassions and also advised us on where to eat, bars etc. The waiters take pride in what they do, and they do a very good job!

We ate in the hotel restaurant 2 nights and the food was lovely...absolute bargain...88 Dirham for a 3 course meal! But i'm not sure if this price was just for people staying with a Groupon voucher. Also, if you do have a groupon voucher you get 10% off all drinks.

The breakfast is a little repetitive, same pastries and bread each morning, and sometimes some fruit.

Its a lovely little hotel with preety decor, especially the main light in the receiption area which hangs down from the ceiling and lights up at night.

The location is pretty good with easy walking distance to nice restaurants, supermarket and shops. You can get a taxi anywhere and you are wherever you want to be in literally 10 minutes.Always remember to haggle the prices though! We were told it should be 20 Dirham before 8pm to go to the main square etc, and 30 Dirham after 8pm. Taxi drivers will start off with 50 Dirham and you shouldnt be paying this much!

I would highly recommend staying here if your are not too fussed about sunbathing and want somewhere to stay with excellent service. Remember this is a budget hotel so don't expect 5* rooms, however i could not fault the rooms and I loved it there!
